Wrinkled on the Floor

Description
This is in the vein of Pink Floyd and John Lennon, but not classic rock sounding. I like the song, it's got a sense of resignation and melancholy paired with a melody. Originally it was all guitar, but i lost one of the tracks and it was easier to just play synth. some echo and a fuzz pedal makes anything sound good.

Lyrics
i'll unlock the door
i'll wait up for you
i won't go unless you call

i won't take away
anything that's yours
i won't go away unless you call

the walls are closing in
and all our love lies wrinkled on the floor today

i can't stand the pain
i can't take the way
everything i had is gone

was it worth the pain?
was it worth the things that you found out?
everything is wrong
everything is wrong right now

so long
it's all over
not the way i'd always dreamed of
it's gone
it's all over
not the way i thought
that everything would go today

Somewhere out there...
...where Big Star (Chris Bell, really) meets Syd Barrett...

I love the droney psychedelic charm of this. Neat almost mellotronic use of the synth.

The song has a lovely melancholy feel, and lots of fun sounds popping in around the edges. My only mini-crit is a buzz that comes and goes... in the headphones it gets in the way of the listening a little...

I'm very pleased to be introduced to your stuff, though, and will check out more...

thanks so much
i'm glad you liked my little song. the buzz you spoke of is intentional, so i guess that's just a taste thing. personally i like that kind of silliness, but I know it's not for everyone. that's the beauty of melodies and classic chord structures: they can be applied in so many ways, to accomodate so many different types of tastes, yet they can be understood by so many (at least a little). thanks again for coming by.

Nice stuff
I would agree with the comment about the buzz in the right channel of the stereo mix.

On the positive side this song has a great feel to it and the perfect mix to compliment the mood.

Wht a great line you have in the second verse ...
"The walls are closing in
and all our love lies wrinkled on the floor today"

Great image there.

i know
the buzz is not appreciated by everyone, it was intentional, it's the sound of a synth run through a really bad digital reverb cranked up all the way. we'll have to agree to disagree on that point, but I am glad that you liked the song itself. taste is a really funny thing, there are songs that people love the way they sound, that are just too clean for me. that's what makes the world go round right? thanks so much for listening and taking the time to comment.

You're right about taste
Keep in mind that I never bother to comment on something that I do not think has something really going for it. Stuff that I appreciate I comment on; stuff that I appreciate, but that I think needs work or that the production values (IMHO) detract from the overall presentation, I comment on; and newbees who seem interested in expressing themselves, I comment on. That is one of the great things about MacJams. A person can get honest comments from all over the world. Better than asking your family and friends about your music 'cause you either get an honest opinion that hurts the relationship, or you get a dishonest opinion that preserves the relationship ... but you never know which you are getting.

you are the
correct sir. i rarely play my stuff for anyone i know, unless i am playing with them. it's funny, as i do this for myself, yet i seek something from my peers as well (or i wouldn't be posting things). thanks again for taking the time out to listen. i am actually probably going to do another version of this that's more guitar oriented, and less "noise for noise sake."

mood for melancholy
nice one Michael. i like the lennon/floyd idea. pretty dead on with that. the synths is a really nice subtle touch.

oops
ya that autofill can trick you. i've come close to letting get by.

BTW. thanks for the slide tip. i never thought of different tunings and playing at the fret. usually i just went up 1 or 2 octaves while holding the chords. thanks!

Neo-mushroom pop
The only thing missing is an electric sitar, otherwise this is indeed a perfect psychedelic track. Cool guitar chords, dreamy melody, and a synth that goes woo-wee. Now all we need is a flowery clothes, sandals, and a bong. And the aforementioned electric sitar. Oh, and a VW bus.

Victor.
