You have a great sound here. Song is constructed and
produced very well. The vocals and guitar solo seemed a
little low (could be ny headphones). But these are
trivialities. [ Reply to This ]

Duh, duh, duh. DAH!!! Ya coulda at least written out the
lyrics...
Sounds more like 1988. Just kidding. Good song. A little
Living Color, a little King's X or something... and definitely
some double bass... just to kick more butt.
Nice soloing. [ Reply to This ]

Oh, and I love the little Alice in Chains-type bridge near the end.

wonderful &mdash 08/14/04 - 04:41:10 PM
refreshing to hear something heavy on here. performance
is tight, production is great, vocals are strong. all around
a great track and pretty darn catchy! ;) glad to finally hear
something "new" from you! [ Reply to This ]

Good hard rock tune, excellent drums and git
accompaniments/solos. I like the repetitive figure just
before the wailing guitar solo.
Good vocals are sometimes on the verge of being buried
by the accompaniment, but this is a small quibble.
I like your use of silence throughout the tune which sort
of "re-sets" the ears.
Good ending! [ Reply to This ]
Agree with Pengy &mdash 08/14/04 - 06:52:54 PM
It IS refreshing to hear some of the harder stuff... I
don't feel so lonely, heheh!
Great break and I like the guitar riff as well as the
harmonies in the break. The only thing I don't like is
that 80's hair band rock that's sneaking in. Although,
I'm not sure how to get away from that... perhaps a
darker approach to the singing? Some way to push it
more into the Alice In Chains world and out of the
Slaughter world... but a great tune! These are just
nitpicks. [ Reply to This ]
Wow! &mdash 08/14/04 - 07:18:39 PM
Thanks for all of the positive feedback. It's tough not to
wear your influences on your sleeve. Alice in Chains,
King's X (my personal faves)... and the 80's metal which i
grew up on all sneak in there. After the release of this
CD, this group did small scale touring as an Alice in
Chains tribute.
My role in this you ask? Besides writing the music, I
performed 3 of the 4 rhythm guitars, lead break, both
guitar harmony parts and harmony vocals.
Used 3 different amps to record this one. A '79 Marshal
Super Lead, a 50 watt Purple Soldano and a Peavey 5150.
The song was recorded in a small home-based studio...
32 tracks to tape I believe.
Thanks again, if response to my older material is this
good, i'll upload a few more this weekend. [ Reply to This ]
Kerrang!!!!! &mdash 08/14/04 - 08:49:13 PM
Name of a Heavy rock mag and cable channel over here in
the UK and supposedly onomatopoeic description of a
powerchord. Guitar sounds LURVELY on this. Very Meaty.
Further north in the England you go the more people get
into the heavy stuff, I spent my late teens and twenties in
North Yorkshire and so got into Deep Purple / Jimi
Hendrix / AC/DC (I'm too old for Alice in chains but I do
know just one King's X track, "Fade" and this does sound a
bit like it).
It was nice to hear a solo where you didn't try to melt the
fretboard too. (I admire shredding enormously but every
time I hear Angus Young I realise that speed ain't
everything)
If you have more stick them up! Very cool. One negative :
never really listen to the lyrics on heavy stuff much but
the opening line seemed a bit of a toe curler. Only gripe
though.
WARAGH!!! (which some metal head once told me was the
appropriate response to KERRANG!!!!!...) [ Reply to This ]

Good sound, nice vocals kinda reminiscent of '70s.
Close toss-up between Cream, Jeff Beck and a little
Vanilla Fudge too. Jack Bruce Vocals!!
Don't think you're my age but it really takes me back.
I rarely hear stuff like that anymore. [ Reply to This ]

upfrontness...but hey the git solo was right on....more
power to u.....

I love 80s rock, and this fits into the best of category. The
song is classic, but the vocal harmonies and the guitar
solo are really great. The only mixing critique: it sounds
so studio, especially the drums, even tho it is clear and
really fine, but with high energy rock I don't want to know
(even tho I know) that it is being done in a studio, so I can
fake myself into thinking it is live ensembled energy
exploding (or coming right out of someone's head). But
this is a fantastic track. I love it! [ Reply to This ]

Thanks Tobin, This band was really known for our live performance (our
rehearsal schedule was heavy... 5 times a week 2-3 hour sessions). We
worked in 3 different studios (including glenn gould at cbc toronto) and no
one was able to capture that energy, perhaps it was our actually being in the
studio that did this. Maybe a good live performance recording may have
captured it. I know exactly where you're coming from. [ Reply to This ]
