Crazy man....Crazy.....
I thought when I read the time sig that this would be just weird but thats what I get for thinking. Not wierd but... strange, and thats the good kind of strange. Has a very live midnight in the smokey coffee house kind of feel.

Cool &mdash 05/04/07 - 02:04:24 PM
Smokey, you have a really cool jazz sound here. The choice of instruments is perfect for this. I especially like how the piano took the main theme and ran in different directions with it. Fine composition! Thanks for sharing.

this is another "inside out" song. i started from the improv in the middle and built a framework around it by picking out some themes and setting them up in the opening and reiterating them at the end... it's a bit of a cheat...

thanks!

we all need to fight the good battle against the scourge of 4/4 :-)

Something I love in accomplished musicians... &mdash 05/05/07 - 08:47:17 PM
...is when they can do something like take an unusual time signature, as here, and have you, in a few bars, forgetting all about that because the result is so musical, so infectious and easy to listen to...

Doesn't end up sounding pedantic or like an exercise... It sounds like music...

Nice feel to this... I could imagine a live combo playing this, and it sounding really nice in a small concert space or coffeehouse...

SmokeyVW what a nice song job you did here and a great listen before I call it a night. I really enjoyed this one. I think the genre should be more like "Jazz_Nu Jazz"

Thanks for sharing,

mvh : )

Nice one Bill &mdash 05/09/07 - 11:05:17 PM
Took me a while to get here - but I'm sure glad I made it. I've been riding that train to nowhere lately.
Great soundspace - the drums and bass have a really good feel. I like the piano extension in the middle. Overall a really enjoyable and impressive piece of music. The way back in with the bass out of the piano as killer. A SomkeyVW Supreme.

thanks Bud

Jazz just really mystifies me &mdash 05/12/07 - 11:41:25 PM
It feels like watching a scene from a movie - a busy city street - cars, a few busses, construction, pedestrians all doing their own thing, while being subconsciously mindful of their surroundings, but feeding off the energy of the whole - disconnected and yet connected. I find jazz to be strangely disconcerting.

thanks for the visuals - very nice.

i think you got it. it's not perhaps what anyone else would bring to the table - but that's not the point. it's that you became engaged in the listening and saw things in your mind's eye.

for that - i thank you - it tells me this succeeded!

New Beginnings &mdash 06/16/07 - 11:23:30 AM
Smokey, this is a delightful song. The beginning reminds me of that part in a movie--you know, the montage--where the main character finally realizes what he's been doing wrong all along and decides that it's time for a new beginning. So we see him doing all these positive things to reinforce his conviction to change for the best. This music would follow that sequence very nicely. It's very uplifting!

as in my previous post, it's what you see in your mind that counts. i'm glad this worked for you. i really like your interpretation - it clicks for me. maybe i'll just adopt this for what i meant it to mean!
