Description:
An old fashioned folk song about the hope for a brighter day featuring three part vocal harmonies.
Much thanks to Roxylee and Richard whose voices make this song happen.
Song art is a picture of the Santa Barbara marina.
Lyrics:
A Brighter Day
Chords D – G - A
1.
I’m looking to find a time
Another place, some peace of mind
The troubled claims of today
Recede like clouds of yesterday.
Where is the goodness within the heart?
Where better angels take their part
Resisting envy, fear, and pride
Who will stand on mercy’s side?
Chorus: I’m looking for a brighter day
“Wishful dreamer” someone will say
“Don’t you know that can never, never be.”
But turn around you might see…
2.
I’m looking for the moment when
Man sees his neighbor as his friend
Owing love and nothing more
Building heaven’s treasure store.
I’m hoping for the promise of
A new heart born from above
In the image of the One
To any one and all who come.
Chorus
3.
I’m looking for a better home
A love that seeks not its own
A place of joy meant from the start
Charity in every heart.
Can you hear it? It’s in your ear
Let Wisdom draw you, draw you near
The day is dawning, dawning bright
Will you wake to see its light?
Chorus

for asking me to sing with you guys. I really like the message of hope in this song, and singing harmony is always great fun for me. And yeah, Rich, it was cool to sing with you from across the miles.:-) [ Reply to This ]

In fact...that picture looks just like it was taken from the marina right next to where I live:) On a good day of course;)
I enjoyed the song with the crispy Martin guitar and the lovely harmonies from you guys.
The message is universal, as your marina picture... [ Reply to This ]

I just bought this guitar... such a nice sound. Always tempting to pick up and play... and I am giving into that temptation a lot.
Yes, lovely harmonies by my two professional vocalist friends. It is amazing, the musical talent available here at MJ for collaborations. Thanks, thoddi...

yep... that about sums up this song Mike. I started this tune out with a Gordon Lightfoot kinda take in mind... and I still think as a solo it kinda goes there. But I couldn't resist calling on two of MacJams vocal treasures... R and R. I'm happy... and I'm glad you liked it... ah, the memories and the new thoughts!

Good vocals, and the guitar has just the right amount of understatedness. [ Reply to This ]

There's gonna come a day, Jack... &mdash 05/08/07 - 09:07:05 PM
...when you put out a CD, and then, when there's a collection of ten or twelve of your songs all playing in a row, people will be able to see, or hear, a startling overarching unity to everything you've wanted to sing and say...
Has something to do with love, I think...

Beautiful song, Dadai... &mdash 05/09/07 - 02:49:04 PM
...brings me back a few years. I was a big Chad and Jeremy fan. This has that flavor, for me. Along with some Peter Paul and Mary. Roxylee and Richard brought that along.
A very fine trip back in time and wishing for the best in all of us.
Thank you... [ Reply to This ]
a trip back... &mdash 05/10/07 - 11:28:58 AM
Hey Bob... yeah those old sixties folk groups... harmonies, idealism in the lyrics. Not much of that kind of music any more. This was a trip back for me too. It's always good to be reminded of those good groups from way back... a lot of good songs.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Really nice singing by all; real pleasure listening to the harmonies on the headphones (I am also reminded of Peter, Paul, and Mary recordings). And that guitar, well, Jack, you must be very happy with it because it sounds great. A good guitar is like a good friend. Very nice job on the mix, it does sound like you were together, and I guess in a way you were;). Great job Richard, Roxy, and Jack! [ Reply to This ]

The harmonies are what I enjoy most about this song... credit to the double R singing duo.
Thanks.

Well sung in the PP&M fashion, this took me way back to when I was a young pup. Lots of nice harmonies in there.

Very nice. &mdash 05/19/07 - 03:38:46 AM
I loved this. Pretty guitar, sweet harmonies, beautiful message. The world needs more songs like this. Thank you for creating this little piece of beauty.
The only technical issue I hear is that there's an awful lot of hiss here. I'm by no means a recording engineer, but there are two things I do to try to minimize hiss in my own recordings. First, I try to experiment with mic positioning on the guitar until it sounds like I want it to without having to EQ too much. That same EQ that makes the top end of the guitar sound crisp often adds hiss to the recording. The second thing I try to do is to try to record as hot a signal as I can without distorting. The quality of whatever preamp your mic is going through comes into play here, but the idea is that if the signal is strong, then when you mix the recording, you wong have to crank everything up, exacerbating whatever hiss is on the tracks.
But the two thoughts I want to end with are:
1 - Like I said, I am NOT a real engineer, so if you know better (or someone who does wants to chime in), please feel free to ignore my advice. And,
2 - The song is beautiful. Very nice job. [ Reply to This ]
