Description:
An alternative lullaby sung by my friend and gorgeous voiced Aaron. This hamonically complex yet extremely simple song is brought to life beautifully by Aaron's exquisite vocals. It is not written in any key, but floats, like a dream, around a tonal center. (Artwork is by Vladamir Kush, Moscow.)
Subsequent arrangements:
- with a female singer, Emily Rohm, synth and harp: Dreams II
- with a male jazz singer, for a piano trio: Dreams III
Lyrics:
Dreams.
What are you dreaming?
Do you know I am here, while you sleep?
What do you see when my hands hold you near?
When my breath touches you, can you feel?
Maybe when you awake, you'll know to never fear that I should go away.
You'll know I'm always near, when you awake.
When you awake to me.
When you awake to me, all the world's ache will fall away, like clay, cleaned away.
I'll give you all you need.
Make every dream come true.
All you can take from me. All I can give to you.
When you awake. When you awake to me.

Nice voice &mdash 02/12/04 - 10:26:34 AM
Feels like a broadway show.
Could you possibly look at adding a bit of effect to the voice?
It lacks a bit of ambiance (sp?). I don't know, some echo or reverb... Just a bit.

Thanks for the comments. I actually write for musical theatre (not the usual
category for forums). Almost everything I write sounds a bit like it's for the
stage. This song was written for a show I am reworking, Creature, based on
the Frankenstein story. I brought in my friend Aaron to sing cuz I love his
voice! I mixed it so it sounded like he was standing next to you. I wanted it
to be about his voice and the words, and the reverbs in GB are a little ifferent
than the studio lexicon box I'm used to. I'm having trouble making them
sound "real."

I was just fooling around on this website when i came across this song. It is
VERY nicely done. Is there sheet music available for it anywhere? or a karaoke
version? I happen to have an audition for a new musical on monday and well, I
think this may be the perfect song for my audition. So please, if you know
anything about this write back quick! Aaron has a very impressive vocal
ability, and tobin is amazing at songwriting/ lyrics and such. you two are
PHENOMINAL. awesome job! [ Reply to This ]

Yes, I have sheet music to this song. I would be happy to share it with you. [ Reply to This ]
Nice voice, indeed! &mdash 02/15/04 - 01:39:32 PM
it's a tad bit loud for a dream/lullaby. Subtle dynamics might be nice.
Otherwise, beautiful song!

SUCH a pretty vocal performance. Very impressive. The instrumentals
were perfect and matched the voice well. Very well done [ Reply to This ]

Not my cup of tea, but a really, really nice song and performance. I give it a
nine because you wrote a nice song and Mr. Aaron has some nice pipes. If
you could get him to tone down the vibrato, I'd give it a ten.
On the other hand, it he toned down the vibrato, it wouldn't be musicall
theatre now, would it? :)
Great work, guys. [ Reply to This ]

Woah there sport. You, have one duece of a voice. i would have thrown in some more instrumentals to mark a climax and what not, But never the less, still a fantastic piece
where do you preform?

Can't Trust The Ratings &mdash 02/28/04 - 06:34:35 AM
There is no way ALL of your songs can be rated so highly. Though your songs are OK, they are not great and definetly not worthy of the scores given considering all of the songs that are superior to yours. I do not trust the rating system. I think you are manipulating the ratings. [ Reply to This ]
Trust The Ratings &mdash 03/19/04 - 12:20:20 PM
maybe because this guy is a real musician, does inventive and beautiful work, and puts a ton of thought into his arrangements? maybe that's why it rates so high? i could listen to his stuff all day. wish i could start a radio station with some of thes great work posted on macjams so far...

Nice &mdash 03/06/04 - 01:19:53 AM
Great vox. I agree that maybe more of a climax on the
instrumentals would give it that extra push over the the
hill. Also, I kept wanting to hear the piano for a couple
more bars to finish out the song.

Great sound &mdash 03/08/04 - 11:50:20 AM
Great piece! Although certainly soothing, it maybe a
bit too energetic in the middle for a lullaby. But I
don't take these labels too seriously
Likewise, I think the rating system should be taken
with a grain of salt. Tobin gave my song a good
rating, and wrote a nice comment, so I checked out
his music, liked it and returned the favor. dose that

at first i was impressed by the cool art but... WOW. can i
marry this aaron? it's been a long time since i've heard an
amazing (male) voice like this. (probably not since the first
season of american idol, hahaha.) i like this very much.
beautiful. the voice is soothing despite the dynamics that
people have noticed contradict the title.. meh. any woman
could drool and fall into a sleep-like state of happy
enjoyment and only wake up when - damn! it's over?

Very interesting &mdash 01/25/05 - 06:24:34 PM
I love the fact you make the dream be the awake part. Like
it is not sleeping but awake in the dream.
Dreams are very important I think, there is so much we
don't know about dreams. So much the medical field
doesn't know.
I love your very interesting pictures as well.
It seems like every time I go and hear our wonderful muisc
I always go away inspired.
You are a very special artist!

Chord progressions run rings around other dreamers &mdash 04/07/05 - 07:05:45 AM
Your chord progression run circles around everyone. God,
your smooth. Yeah, the guy has a forceful and high voice,
clarion. But this is a jewel of a demo. And your art rocks. [ Reply to This ]
