Now this is some weird sh1t. If I was in a chinese restaurant I would ask the waiter to give the piano player less drugs and more oxygen. Dope!
ic42
it is not the fault of the piano player. his notes and letters are permanently rearranged. it is caused by an excess of caffeine, not dope. it is not "w.e.i.r.d." it is "w.i.r.e.d." these two symptoms are similar. music relieves the tension caused by this affliction. your comments calm the waters. thank you. 0x0

I like it. sounds nice in a unquie way. very cheerfull
ic42
it takes a thoughtful one to find cheerful beauty in imperfection and uniqueness. it is the best that can be done. but every day is an improvement. thank you. 0x0

is this algorithmic? i like
nice contrasts
thanks
ic42
it begins as algorithmically generated patterns. additional algorithms add harmonies. some manual processes add/subtract flaws in the first processes. more manual processes add dynamics and choose appropriate instrumentation. the repeated process creates this. it is called re-generative music. if the results are pleasing to you, it is a worthy experiment. thank you. 0x0

It really doesnt seem that far off to me.But I grew up listening to Brubeck.
This sounded more like impov jazz to me. Its was way too short!!
ic42
it is not brubeck. it can only take 4. some improvisations wander, as this piece does. however, it began to wander far away. so it had to be shortened before getting lost. thank you for listening, and offering your generous thoughts. 0x0

I remember a class I took in college when I was burnt out. Music listening. I thought - just the therapy I need. When we got to the experimental composers, who did musical experiments with algorithms, my classmates were vocal about how unpretty it sounded. That stuff was wackier than this. I was the lone wolf to defend it. I don't think I need to defend this. Sounds pretty. It's Zajjy LOL.
Kudos to you for experimenting with music. Music is an experiment. I agree with Steve that it is a bit brief. I think you could expand on your experiment if you wanted to : )
ic42
the music appreciation class story was nice, and universal. music composition is an extraordinarily complex art. simple algorithmic rules would create many perceived "mistakes". to create better music with fewer mistakes, the algorithms became impractically complex. recently, some complex rules have been found, and provide surprising results. it is a great playground again. but there must still be manual adjustments. there will always need to be manual adjustments. however, that provides additional enjoyment. it is heartwarming to know this provides you with enjoyment. thank you. 0x0

I see patterns circling around a giant glowing ball ..just me, realy enjoyed this!
ic42
it is not a round. but it does feel circular, agreed. so glad you could enjoy it. thank you. 0x0

I too hear something of a cross between oriental sound
and the noodlings of a jazz pianist... would like to
know more of how you 'generate' this in the description,
if it's not a secret of course :o) .. it's very pleasing in a 'it doesn't lead anywhere' but does build kinda way..so I'd expect there was some manual intervention
here and there .. certainly it's unexpected, break from norm, experimental . could well be zajjy or ebulliant but I haven't the foggiest what your on about :o)
ic42
it is an experiment with multiple software packages, iteratively altered by hand. it is early in development. it is premature and time-consuming to describe all processes. regrettably it interferes with the joy of creation. the emulation of a jazz improvisation was intended. if it is pleasing, then the experiment is more successful and will be enhanced. thank you. 0x0

Lizard*Whistle
It doesn't really need to lead anywhere - it just IS.
It stands up in its own right as a piece of jazz randomness.
ic42
it IS. it is as close to machine improvisation as is possible. an experiment in calculated spontaneity. a beautifully complex paradox. your appreciation of it just as it is, is greatly appreciated. 0x0

This is just jazzy to the piano man extreme! dug it real good! thanks for sharin!
ic42
it is sweet that you dig the piano bits. the compliment is transmitted to the piano algorithm, and it thanks you. it says, "0110 1011 0010 0000". it is gratitude in base 2. thank you. 0x0

And everything you do leaves me wanting more. So, yes, I would that this were longer. All that's left to do is to play it over and over. That works for me. Thanks.
ic42
it is music with fun bounce. it is good music if you want to bounce more. thank you for such wishes. 0x0

bit like Zappa, but not so mature sounding.
it`s all a little like some notes were pressed in a special stream or pattern or.... aaah, forget it, it`s nice, basta!
ic42
even immature zappa, it would be a compliment. the random notes of chaos were guided into a pattern. they did not wish to be guided. after much work, the music is harnessed. it begins to take shape. it is nice of you to listen and enjoy the shape of the patterns, thank you. 0x0

Production and sound effectively support the material generated. As someone who writes for this genre I am not certain it is a fair critique for the machine. My frame of reference is to discuss the how and why this works, but the machine doesn't care. Execution of the program is the expressed command.
Funny how it ends on a quizical suspension...asking, "well, was that okay?" Maybe it's me...lol.
Well done! I will be back for more.

it is software. it cannot appreciate compliments. however, the engineer can. encouragement creates more music. this music is 90% machine created. however, 10% is of my hand. some repetition was added, and instruments chosen for tracks. some dynamics added. and some notes changed for a beginning and ending. a question mark is added at the end. it is good to have it noticed. it is a sincere compliment of you, if it works. thank you. 0x0

Compliment generation is easy on this piece and your process. Adding the human element into the process is a joyful gift to the listener. For the engineer-high praise! For the artist-high praise!
Of course this creates the need for more work. High praise for work!
