Description:
Ed and I. Ed on guitar, of course, and me slicen' and dicen'. Nothing too crazy special about this tune except for Ed's playn'. Mr E can get some of the sweetest tones outta that g'tgar. He'll have something different to say about this, but you don't have to believe him. Needless to say, I love hearing him at play.

Some of you guys have heard this before. This is just a more polished version so you can just let it pass by if you'd like, but comments are always welcome. I'm reposting it, because quick fingers was to fast on the draw when asked to remove his music from the site. But, since I'm calln' this is Ed's music, and he gave me permission, the big guys upstairs can have nothing to do about it... Eh eh eh ehhh...

Thanks for stopn' in. Macca

Excellent &mdash 05/11/07 - 02:36:24 PM
in every way. Nice production - beautifully balanced and crystal clear. Nice performances, and sweet guitar playing. Some terrific hooks in there, and a lovely tone/effect on the guitar. Bass has great, rich sound as well, and is used to great effect - holding back and pushing forward as needed. Percussion fits nicely, and has nice variety. This is outstanding. My first time to hear it, but not my last...Nice work, you guys. Peace.

didn't here the previous version. so it's new to me. cool, slick and funky. A very cool side of Ed's playing that we don't get to hear. Nice collab!

Dub blues &mdash 05/11/07 - 02:51:15 PM
Love the way you use stereo effects on this tune. Great basslines, cool bluesy guitar playing. Nice use of effects. Great rhythm. Sometimes reminiscent of old dub, in a good way.

That IS EJH! &mdash 05/11/07 - 04:41:00 PM
And a great little bit of playing too! Nice job guys. The only thing I could wish for is a different sound when there are those little "trumpet" blats. They just sound kinda flat and tinny. Otherwise nice as always.

First MJ track .. &mdash 05/11/07 - 05:06:25 PM
.. on my new monitors, and from two of my favourite MJers as well. Sounds fantastic guys, as good ... no, better ... than the original. Excellent stereo mix Macca and some cool playing from Ed. Will listen again at volume later in the day - when the neighbours wake up ;)
Good idea to repost this more polished version Mr M!
Cheers,
Neil

funky genes &mdash 05/11/07 - 05:08:04 PM
The funky genes is still in place macca. The very tasty drum and bass choices makes me do some indecent moves in my chair...

The guitar stuff from Ed is cool and almost a bit sexy... he he, must be something I ate t'night...

I dig it guys!

Ed is rocking &mdash 05/11/07 - 10:30:47 PM
Ah yes... sounds polished indeed. This is really cool, Macca, big sounds and beats and space. You leave room for Ed's minimalism rock leads. In fact, those leads, and every slice'n'dice that you do--it all sounds like a gathering of the kinds of musicians that know how to just pitch in a little bit of sound here and there, all adding precision pieces of sound to a bigger, grander whole. Nice going both of you.

It is amazing &mdash 05/12/07 - 05:28:37 AM
The guitar is so well placed (and the effects) I forgot that I was supposed to be consentraing on ed's playing. This is a well made tune with a good amount of changes and transitions

Ed The Folk Master &mdash 05/12/07 - 06:59:06 AM
Does Progressive Rock??? You bet he does. Macca nice bed of slice and dice, really like the bass sound you're getting.

It really is nice... &mdash 05/13/07 - 02:32:18 PM
To hear this again...

All the stuff I put you through every time we do anything together... phew...

I particularly like how it all ends up sounding all worked out, even though there's a certain volleyball-like back-and-forth improv to how we end up working... And I certainly end up personally sounding WAY more like I knew what I was doing when I was doing it...

It still amazes me, Dion, how you take bits of this and bits of that, musically, and turn it into flow and form...

Great to hear Ed &mdash 05/14/07 - 04:59:33 AM
It is always so nice to hear you on the site Ed..
Here in another setting than I've heard before..

I know your'e not unfamiliar with the CSNY repertoire Ed. And here it sounds like your'e not totally unaffected by it either, correct me if I'm wrong...

"Not unfamiliar with the CSNY repertoire".... &mdash 05/15/07 - 06:19:28 PM
Heh, heh. THAT'S puting it mildly...

And I'm surprised-but-not-surprised that you picked up on that... It's not like this is folk rock or country rock...

But one of the biggest things that ever affected me musically were the Stills-Young guitar duels on 'Four Way Street', with Crosby dropping in the rhythm slashes wherever he felt like it... That's what my friends and I used to do in the Seventies... Play, or try to play, 'Southern Man' or 'Long Time Gone' or 'Carry On' or something that had a long guitar jam in it, and just see where it went... My old friend Joe and I used to do chase-each-other's-tails leads and try to change up the phrasing and stuff...

So THAT, at least, is still part of my consciousness as I do something like this, which also has that Fripp and Eno realm of 'No Pussyfooting' and "first thought-best thought' about it somehow...

Then you add DION into the mix, bound and determined to stir the pot as he loves to do, and you end up with something just a few degrees to starboard of what I might have thought I was intending... which is another part of the fun...

Good ears, my friend, as always...

Ed

.. &mdash 05/17/07 - 11:27:30 AM
Ah .. Fripp and Eno too .. nostalgia .. I had friends who had that record and we listened during a period and thought it was so fantastic ... haven't heard it since then .. a long long time ..

The other songs you mention are of course among the most important building stones in the base of my musical conciousness .. strange how influential they became .. well not strange really; it was such quality .. am listening again to Long Time Coming .. still feels just Wow ..

Cool little beat &mdash 05/16/07 - 01:59:31 AM
What a little groover this is, dressed up and ready for a night out. Love the percussion on this, and the mix of guitars and keys ... had me nodding my head all the way through. Nice 80's kinda feel to the guitars, and the production is just wonderful ... everything so crisp and clear ... I'm green with envy.

Great collab gents.

Geez... &mdash 05/17/07 - 05:36:41 PM
I've been trying to listen to this for two days. Each time I click on play I get the endless spinning color wheel! This has happened to me before with a couple of Enrique Gil's tunes. I wonder what causes this on some tunes and not on others?

Finally I downloaded it. This is not something I do a lot of (for technical reasons). It was worth it! Fabulous drum and percussion track with the inimitable Ed's rhythmic and funky guitar soloing. A real sonic treat guys. Many thanks for this post!

Be well!

...a new musician to listen to and a completely 'nother side to Ed.

Very very cool groove. First listen to you and Ed's electric. Great collab. Nicely produced/engineered. Really like your choice of instrumentation. And Ed's sounding great...

Tasty as the margarita I was sippin' last night.

Wow! &mdash 06/21/07 - 09:17:31 AM
I loved the tickling marimba-like synth in the beginning leading into the excellent percussion-heavy part - which by the way has a ton of subtle and spot-on rhythmical details. Loops or programming? Doesn't matter actually but what's up with that - are you a drummer or just seriously talented mixing beats? Ed's guitar is as good as you say it is and with your original and truly creative approach to the arrangement I'd call this an outstanding arrangement and improvisation.

very nice &mdash 06/22/07 - 11:31:55 AM
this feels like an organic, evolving work - like there is all the time in the world to reach the sonic journey's end. i particularly like the low rumbling bass. percussion is tops! hearing this blossom out into full flower is very enjoyable. good job of listening to each other, and the call and response of your instruments is cool. nice job, guys. anne

Long and chilled &mdash 07/16/07 - 06:51:38 AM
The production of this piece is excellent. Subtle, and imaginative. There's a great background for those guitar licks, but the background is never boring. It's all well played and it sounds really cool.

My only gripe would be that you take quite a while to work up to, eh, some rhythmic guitar notes? I would get to the meat of the matter a bit quicker than that. But then I grew up with Beatles songs that lasted 1:54, and had an intro that was just one chord.
