5 Ninth Meltdown

Description
Me N' Jake met Bob Dorsey of Five Extra Arms fame in a pub in the Meatpacking District of NYC on April 29th 2007. We only had around 4 hours to cram in as much chat as we could about music, Macjams and other bits (and Bobs, heh!) as well as have a small libation, after our extensive travels (we had only arrived from Scotland an hour before and the Big Guy was jettin' back to Florida same day...)

So this is inspired by that day - what a fantastic thing to meet up in the most vibrant city on Earth. Brought together by music & MacJams.

The pleasure of that day will hopefully transfer through this little ditty...and I can confirm that Bob Dorsey is as funnier in real life as he attempts to be here, heh heh!

(PLAY LOUD!)

Jim

(PS - Katy - if you're reading this - there's a fair amount of "artistic" goin' on - no, there is, yes! Really....!!

Lyrics
5 Ninth Meltdown

Well there’s Me n’ Bob n’ Jake
And that makes the three

Guzzilin’ the Murphy’s
We’re out of our tree. Jake laughin’
– it’s a breeze
Keep on goin’, fall to your knees…

It’s a 5 Ninth meltdown.
We shouldn’t be here
And we’re goin’ home, sometime?
When we fall outta here!

Bob says somethin’ ‘bout the alphabet
An’ it ain’t no lie,
An’ we’re getting’ down to fightin’
About, “..is it Jay or Jie..?”

The yellow cabs are flying ‘round the MPD
And it’s only Bob n’ Jake n’ Me
we’re really out our tree

It’s a 5 Ninth meltdown.
We shouldn’t be here
And we’re goin’ home, sometime?
When we fall outta here!

(Keep it up, Boys!)

Well there’s Me n’ Bob n’ Jake
An’ there’s only us three and
They’ve run outta Murphy’s
An’ we’re goin’ “yeee heeeee!!!!

It’s a 5 Ninth meltdown.
We shouldn’t be here
We’re gonna have to go, ‘cos we’re KICKED outta here….!

Thank you Mac Jams! Wouldn't have happened anywhere else!

Jim, I can't believe you wrote and recorded this on the flight back to Scotland! Amazing!

This is a really cool song and if I wasn't there, I'd say it was all a big gigantic lie. Who would believe a coupla Scots would step off a plane and go straight to a pub?

You realize I will have to tell me side of the story... You know, some of the "funnier" details that were left out of your story. Of course I have to wait until Tuesday night (my GB night).

Great use of instruments - unusual combinations that work well and you really have a great voice. I love the story told here. It brings back vivid memories of us being strong armed outta that place by big tough bouncers....

Kisses to Jakers. She's a doll.

Well, we did have a shower
and a change of clothes. That's why we were so long to get there. I mean, have you ever tried drinking shower water?? Impossible - makes you gag...so, pub was the next best thing.

Was great how even with our limited knowledge of American and you're utter lack of Scots (apart from, "yer bum's oot the windy..") that we actually managed to converse!

Oh and there's that other word you know - Scotch. Heh heh!

Fun fun fun!!!

Ditto
i described Bob's track recently as drunken surf blues, and this wouls appear to be in the same category. A neat little tune, Jim (I love the fuzziness of it), and much better than a picture. This explains why Bobs postcard only contained one sentence!

Glad you like it,
A dose of 'fuzziness' was exactly how we ended on the day!

5 Ninth is a real place, but meeting Bob was kinda surreal - like meeting a long-time hero or superstar!!! Was not disappointed - only complaint was it was too short. Tried to reflect that in the song length of 2'11".

Thanks for checking it out, Steve.

Talk soon,

Jim

Tiny
Did you mean it was too short, or Bob was. i always imagined him kinda tall myself. The only picture i've seen of him, he's got a robotic eye ... is that what he's like in real life???

Bob's Postcard - One Sentence
Oh I see, now teasing me about my 'music' isn't enough. You have to start in on my postcards! One sentence? - Steve, in the brief time I was in NYC, I'm lucky I found a pen, let alone a postcard, a stamp, a post office... I don't even know how I found the time to write your lengthy address!

Jim, Please tell Steve that I am almost 7 feet tall and have one laser beam eye and 5 extra arms.

The New new york dolls
I like the very N.Y drive and urgency of this. I always knew macjams is about rock'n'roll attitude and pub cred.

You got it, CJ!
We had to cram our meeting in to a few hours - so the song demands that we squeeze everything in quickly.

Cheers,

Jim

cool indie approach
but when i listen, at the heart of it, i'm hearing a bluegrass number. Not to say Flatt & Scrubbs would sound like this. very cool topped with bolo ties and white cowboy hats. Of course some fuzzy chaps.

Great tune
Cool coincidence - it's a small world - or as I believe some other Scots once said - it's a Big Country (am I right?). I agree with Vic - this is down home. Nice Chrysler pic BTW.

Bud!
Thanks for coming back. Yes - it's a BIG country -i.e. the world is a big country......

We were standing on the bridge getting shafted by cyclists, thinkin' ? - lets eat. These cats are too fast!

So we came back to Manhattan. Bottom line is this....

We had a ball!!! Gimme Brooklyn or anywhere....I'm Scottish. Like a Martini - anytime, anywhere, any place.....so Brooklyn/MacJams is just another place to meet folk!! People should come here more often.....

Bob Dorsey of 5 Extra Arms came to the City from Florida to meet. How fantastic is that?

Is the LIOLI question from earlier; nul & void?

I bet you didn't know the responsibility / hassle of taking this on,,,

God bless you for doing so.....

Jim

Excellent!
Really topshelf music, fantastic lyrics, this song is hard to peg down which is a good thing, very original sound. Im not sure if youve ever heard Primus, its the closest similiar sound I could think of but yet its different, congrats on a fine tune!

Thanks for your ears!

I trust you guys to tell it like it is. Me n Bob n Jake exploded in NYC....

It had to be done - a song beats the pants off of a photo...it means you have your own image of what happened in that few hours...

Ta again!

I agree LL..
..now that I've heard it more - I think I'll just leave it as it is. It kinda goes with the overall feel of the captured moment. Velvet's comparison is waay too kind!!!
