Keywords:
Gloomy (1)moody (38)laid-back (2)slow. (1)
Description:
I've been catching-up with some gardening. I don't think I've got green fingers as one of the shubs I moved looks pretty dead! I've been through a few gardeners (despite only having a small - but overgrown - garden) none of which have been very good either... I'm looking for the one in the song!

Hardware:
Taylor 110 acoustic with woody pick-up, Yamaha PSX300 keyboard, bongos, tamborine. AKG C1000S and Shure PG58 microphones. Boss drum machine.

This is wonderful Peter &mdash 05/12/07 - 09:06:55 PM
I also had to laugh a little. I was thinking the same thing from pulling weeds today. But I also had green legs while using the weed whacker.

Seriously very well played and the singing is top notch.

Thanks Vic &mdash 05/12/07 - 09:17:57 PM
Glad you enjoyed the song. I do like a tidy garden but I'm not keen on doing it myself - I should have been laying turf rather than recording - and the weeds are building-up again already.

Like it Peter &mdash 05/12/07 - 09:24:46 PM
Some Go-Between influence here in the chord sequence and the vocals. Saw a special memorial Go-Betweens show the other night - excellent stuff - but I digress! The longer I lsten the more I like this. Nice themes (musically and lyrically) throughout. A gentle folk/rock/acoustiv sound - very impressive.

I've always loved the Go-Betweens and they are a huge influence - I guess a little bit of their style does come across in my music. Glad you're enjoying the song. Thanks for listening and your comments. Peter

Hi Peter &mdash 05/12/07 - 10:20:35 PM
This is a very nice tune. I dig the sound you have developed here.
I have given it a few listens. You have my vote.
I'm trying to figure the lyric. Intriguing, green fingers.
Lots of color and garden reference. I think there is more to it.
Its what i want it to be right?

bout five listens..dig it.

Really pleased &mdash 05/13/07 - 02:59:36 AM
that you like this. I think it's a 'grower' and needs a few listens. It is a melancholy song and not just about gardening - I picture someone creating vibrant, beautiful gardens for all to enjoy but really being rather sad and lonely. But of course it's open to interpretation... Thanks, Peter.

The lonely feelings comes thru in your vocal. and i agree the more i listen the more o want to here it again.
when i garden i find a peace that only i have. Its a lonely kind of peace.

Color Matters &mdash 05/12/07 - 11:29:37 PM
Really like the mood of this piece-very smooth-easy going tune-not sure if it's a happy tune or not-no matter the color I still dig it!

Sweet &mdash 05/16/07 - 07:43:06 AM
song. I love the gentle, rolling rhythm of the music, and your vocal sits perfectly on top - nice tone, and nice lyrics. It's morning and I'm about to head out to work, and i can absolutely guarantee that this is going to be rolling around in my head all day. Very nice work. I'm very glad I stopped by and discovered your music. Peace.

good words here &mdash 05/21/07 - 09:27:42 PM
Wish I had green fingers, my lawn grows to fast. I think I'll need a sit down mower if my dang grass grows any fasters. I think I need octopus's arms. I am not even close to green fingers! :)

Thanks for sharing Nice backdrop music as well!

Hello &mdash 05/22/07 - 01:56:14 AM
and thanks for listening. Gardening is just so time consuming - and it always seems to rain when I want to cut the grass so I end up dragging the mower across the lawn. But I guess it's worthwhile in the end.

yard work &mdash 05/26/07 - 05:04:58 AM
is one of my favorite things, albeit the work it is... Takes my mind away from all the other things, or gives me time to ponder on things extracurricular.

Nice song for that type of thing, may I add. Thanks for sharing.

very nice tune and reminds me of the MJers Rebsie's
style, only male version. Thanks for reminding me of
all the gardening I have to do .. before I hide everything under a giant trampoline.

Is it the Garden or &mdash 05/30/07 - 11:59:17 AM
....the gardener your missing. This sounds like a song of longing. Like the background melody and you hook. It took me a couple of listens, but grew on me. Nice tune. Thanks for sharing.

Well &mdash 05/30/07 - 04:44:50 PM
it's a song of longing really! I could indeed do with a new gardener (the last one really liked pruning - I don't think anything flowered all year)... I think gardening can be a rather lonely hoby. Thanks for listening. Peter

Growing on me &mdash 05/30/07 - 01:37:22 PM
This really grabbed me from the get go Pete - lovely clear production on this, everything nicely panned, nice feeling of space. This has a lovely stately progression to it, and a very 'english' feel to it - I think it's your accent coming through, which i really like.

Lovely piece of work.

Thanks Steve &mdash 05/30/07 - 04:35:02 PM
for dropping by. It's that English accent again! - Glad you like it... Hope it dosen't sound too Peckham (as that's where I grew up). I think this one's a grower (no pun intended) - It's one of those songs that went together really quickly and apart from re-doing the vocal (I changed the lyrics a little) it was all done in an afternoon.

Glad you enjoyed the song - I too enjoy gardening but finding the time is a real problem. I've just been doing some drastic cutting back as it was becoming difficult to get up the path. Thanks for listening.

Really good man &mdash 06/05/07 - 04:51:48 AM
Sorry that I've never heard your stuff before, because I listen to the Alt Rock stuff more often. Nicely mixed, good back ground sound, and very mellow.
You've got a green thumb for music. Thanks for the listen. Well-done.

Nice portrait &mdash 09/07/07 - 07:25:47 PM
Or maybe an intimate landscape...

Once again a nice layering of well chosen sounds, and I like your vocal here.

Though there's not a lot of transition here, I found it easy to keep my attention foussed on the thread of the song. I think that's a sign of good songcraft.

Hello &mdash 09/07/07 - 07:43:23 PM
and thanks for listening and for your comments. This was one of those songs that came together very quickly - I recorded it with slightly different lyrics and then after listening in the car (where I do most of my listening) just changed a couple of lines very slightly. I'm pleased with how this one turned out. Glad you enjoyed it!
