Keywords:
jazz fusion (40)progressive (130)key change (2)odd meter (3)
Description:
this tune is in Bb major but the first few sections emphasize the ii chord and the minor 7th a half step above that, which i think adds to the meter change the song has , in the middle part it then breaks down to its original key of Bb and then eventually returns back to the guitar hook

i like the smooth contrast between the two parts and the movement of the hook

keep on tappin your foot and youll see why it is called studder steppin'!

lemme know what you think!

Satisfying. &mdash 05/14/07 - 10:33:58 AM
I think this manages to sound harmonically complex without actually being harmonically complex (possibly - it could be more complex than I think). I especially like the half step chord change in the beginning. And then the middle part does some unexpected modulation that works perfectly. I really like the guitar tones. I wish I would play - and compose - like that. It's got a funky beat without demanding your attention. Rather it gently invites you to join in, and you're rewarded when you do.

im happy &mdash 05/14/07 - 01:14:20 PM
that you are satisfied with the piece, the complexity itself i think as you said could be elaborated, and ill look into that with further compositions, the song is totally meant to be funky and put that jump into your step, i especially like how you noticed the modulations in the mid section, the melody throughout that middle part i think drives the tune to the next section, i still feel like it could use some more editing, but im thru with it ... on to the next tune ...

thanks for your input!!

Great guitar chops ... &mdash 05/26/07 - 11:51:16 AM
... and composing / arranging chops, too. I like the chromatic descending chords. The melody sound in the mellow middle section is very nice. Guitar? Synth?

Some parts are a little out of tune, but mostly it's fine. When two guitars play together, that's when I hear the intonation problems. But they only happen once in a while.

Fresh enjoyable groove here. You've got lots of talent, Sherrill! Glad you posted.

John
