Description:
as a second part to my ongoing nordic folk cover series - ( previously. the swedish 'kristallen den fina' on http://www.macjams.com/song/29034 )

this is yet another cover of my favourite folk song of nordic origin - Við gengum tvö

it's only demo quality now therefore needs further production (will be updated once proper recording is laid down)

thanks for hearing as always :)

Lyrics:
Við gengum tvö við gengum tvö í rökkurró
Við leiddumst hljóð við leiddumst hljóð um ungan skóg
Þú varst yndi þú varst yndi og ástin mín
Og stundin áfeng stundin áfeng eins og vín
Við hlýddum tvö vid hlýddum tvö í húmi ein
Er blærinn kvað er blærinn kvað við blöð grein
Ég var nóttin ég var nóttin þögla þín
Og þú varst eina þú varst eina stjarnan mín
Á meðan norðurljósin leifta um bláan himininn
Þá sit ég og þrái kveðjukossinn þinn

I haven't heard the original, but I love what I assume is a modern jazz/rock/tango take on the original folk song. Your voice is gorgeous. I had missed it very much. Thanks for posting this.

Because you mentioned this is an early recording, I'm sure you know there is a spot or two where timing is off either with vocals or piano -not sure which, though I've listened twice.

That piano is incredibly dynamic and beautiful, by the way. I love the interaction between the piano and your voice. Reminds me of a Bjork song.

I also think the drum is a bit bare/lonely - it sticks out like a sore thumb in the mix. Perhaps adding variation to it or otherwise bringing it down in the mix would work?

I love this and can't wait for the next recording!

First off - many bonus points to you for singing in Icelandic! You've even beaten me to the punch :P

I really like your arrangement here, especially the interaction between the piano and the vocals (as estellie pointed out). I also agree with her about the bass drum. It sticks out a bit too much for my taste. But I think you should rather just tone it down a bit, rather than to add something to it.

The piano playing is excellent (although in a place or too, maybe a tiny bit too 'crazy' for my taste - but good nontheless) and I just have to ask:
Is it a real piano? If no, then Is it all played live and polished or do you pencil it in?

Very nicely done!

hehe thank you ! yep it was partly played live and i had to correct and add to the arrangement since i prefer things more rigid that way !

Excellent series interpretations &mdash 05/15/07 - 06:42:08 AM
Love the sense of tango, avant-garde, cabaret, downtempo and the way cool language. Thanks for sharing this. Your innocent voice is perfect. Is there a translation?

Enjoyed &mdash 05/24/07 - 03:37:15 PM
I enjoyed this piece and hope you will continue the project. After listening a couple times I have to agree that the bass drum seems too loud, but I like your energetic piano playing and the way it rises and falls with the singing.

I also would like a translation of the lyric.
