Keywords:
Pink Dress (1)
Description:
Having 5 Extra Arms' back catalog(ue) throws up many songs that are just great fun to work with or enjoy in their own right.

However, with Bob's agreement to cover it, I have resurrected this little gem and attacked the Pink Dress from a whole new angle.

It's a song of two halves. The choirboy just found the stash of holy wine!

Those of you that know the original will see that some new lines have been added just to round it off. See what you think...stick with it until it changes around the 1'30" mark.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did putting it together.

See http://www.macjams.com/song/14925 for Bob's original Pink Dress (it really suited him last time we met...)

Lyrics:
Pink Dress (Punk Dress)

She wore a pink dress
It was a pink dress like any other dress…

She wore a pink dress
It was a pink dress like anybody else had.

She wore a pink dress
Not red not blue not green not brown.

She wore a pink dress, She wore a pink dress,
‘cos the white one was at the cleaners…

She wore a pink dress..she wore a pink dress, because

The red and the blue and the green and the yellow and the purple and the black and the white and the red and the tartan were all in a mess…

She wore a pink dress ‘cos nothin’ else suited her face.

She wore a pink dress ‘cos she wanted to get outta this place…..

cool version &mdash 05/14/07 - 07:18:32 PM
Love the vocals, love the angst in the vocals juxtaposed against the lyrics, this is classic punk rock flavor...The two versions sound so radically different, really interesting to hear both versions right after eachother, both are excellent in their own right,

Nice outfit! &mdash 05/15/07 - 12:56:22 AM
The intro to this is great - almost sounds like a lute or something, and then the guitars come in loud and it all kicks off. Short and sweet - like Bob's dress!!

Wearing the same pink dress? &mdash 05/15/07 - 05:29:57 AM
Very few can describe the thrill of hearing one of your own songs being 'covered' by a Scotsman. I have experienced that thrill.

Jim really has great legs and I think his pink dress looks stunning. He called it a kilt.

My most favorite line in the song is 'The red and the blue and the green and the yellow and the purple and the black and the white and the red and the tartan were all in a mess%u2026'

The first set of vocals are so nicely worked out with that harpsichord sound and I was completely caught off guard by part 2.

I really love what you've done. Now we both have a Pink Dress.

Tom, Steve, Bob... &mdash 05/15/07 - 09:09:20 AM
Thanks guys!

Tom - I see it as one song with the first half as an extended intro...and yes that's me (in pink!). And classic - your right, that's a Johnny Rotten impersonation!

Steve - Harpsichord with effects - JP4!!!! Love it!

Bob - we need to stop sharing a wardobe! Still inspired by your stuff; keep 'em comin'!

You do all realize that if we all lived closer we would be in THE supergroup to end all....!!!

Havn't heard a harpsichord on a rock tune years. Really dug the segue into a punk version. I just got the 2 for 1 special. cool tune with great playing and vocals. damn!

Cheers Vic! &mdash 05/16/07 - 02:17:23 AM
Last time the harpsichord might have been used in a punk type tune could have been the Stranglers.. but if anyone knows different!

Had great fun singing like it was 1977 all over again!

crazy cover &mdash 05/17/07 - 05:10:28 AM
The melancholy of the original version is turned into raging romantic desire. The harpsichord gets even better in the punk half.

Thanks CJ &mdash 05/17/07 - 04:02:04 PM
I just think harpsichord = Stranglers. However, vox is more Johnny Rotten. Mr Dorsey set me off on the concept, Tom Wounded made me think "punk" and Steve (Echoroom) supplied the "technical assistance" to allow it to be done.

I say it's a true collab! Even though the others probably didn't know how much their contributions were essential.

Thanks for listening.

PS love "Redskins" - a wee reference to Leon Trotsky (as in No More Heroes). Mellow ska groove - change of mood? Or taking the piss? Or more likely - goin' back to the dub days directly after punk, no?

Must be cool to have someone cover your song.
I've heard the original and you've done a great job here. Love the harpsicord? thing and the nice punk break.
Great.
