Description:
Could have been longer. First time where piano is the main instrument. Bass is very dominate on this one. sounds really good on a stereo. And I really hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics:
What if?

What if I were to run
and hide away?
From the rain in my brain,
but I can't feel the pain
And I want to home and never feel this way again
this way again

What if were to laugh
and smile again?
And the tide's on the rise
I'm taken by surprise and the waves hit the shore
Can't take anymore
But I need someone to survive
Yeah, I need someone to survive

What if I should fall.......

You have this Beatles thing going on.... Lennonesque vocals (in cadence and style), the Lucy in the sky guitar parts and the drums especially.

Now please don't tell me that this is a Beatles song and that I'm a big dummy for not knowing it.

I love it, man.

Thanks for the logo &mdash 05/16/07 - 04:24:16 AM
It sounds Beatlesque because I play the piano about as well as Lennon did (not very well!). And a sort of Lennon thing came out. Not a lost Beatle tune, butI take that as a compliment.

Mr. Arms pretty well says what i would. But its you. Really enjoyed this. I'm not sure but the bass may be clipping a little. I dig it when some when can pull off a Beatle style of song!

Thanks Vic &mdash 05/16/07 - 04:28:04 AM
See comment to Mr. Arms. Also. I had some funky effect on the bass. I recorded this a few months ago when I still was learning the program. Would have done it differtly.

Well What If.... &mdash 05/15/07 - 09:49:01 PM
I like what I hear & would say it is far more Julian sounding than John-well done and if I may answer the question posed-You get back up!

Come on Julian isn't so bad, but it's a lot better than Sean!
Thanks, man.

hmm...even though I know there's effects and it's electric, your voice and the rhythm make this song sound really organic.

Good stuff!

Lennonesque &mdash 05/17/07 - 02:11:10 AM
Yes this has a really nice Lennon/Beatles feel....good melody..I like the piano and the guitar sound you have on this one a lot. I do find the drums a bit heavy in my headphones though...but this is a really cool track indeed...maybe you should extend it and have a melodic guitar solo at the end?

Refreshingly different - yet comfortingly familiar. &mdash 05/17/07 - 08:32:38 PM
This is a really good song. It's catchy, melodic pop; but it's thoughtful, adult pop. The production is not the best. It's kind of hard to tell the instruments apart, and the overall low end seems to be boosted so much that there is considerable distortion. I can't hear the instrumentation as clearly as I would like to, but judging by what I can hear I think this is pretty much a perfectly constructed song. It's not what you would expect a song to be - not even what you would expect a song like this to be - but it sounds so right. Someone recommended extending the song with a guitar solo. I'm usually the first guy to say guitar solo, but in this rare case I don't think it's necessary. A solo in this song would just be wanking, and it would detract from the concise-yet-abstract nature of this wonderfully artistic song. You sing a few notes that could be more precise in pitch, but your voice is perfect for the song. I wish I could sing like that.

thanks man &mdash 05/21/07 - 04:05:01 AM
Thanks for encouraging my singing because I have no idea what I'm doing. I always write songs with other people in mind. Sometimes a female vocal or a real male singer.
This was recorded early on, so I was still learning to produce on the program. I hope my future productions sound better.
Thanks for taking the time.

Too short maybe &mdash 05/18/07 - 03:06:28 PM
A good song that needs a bit more work on the production. For me there was too much middle which tended to muddy the sound (but my ears are fecked from playing in rock bands for too many years so I've no idea really ;-) )

A remix maybe?

Cheers

Dick

No plans for re-mix &mdash 05/21/07 - 09:17:05 AM
If I ever send it out I'll re-mix it.
Just wanted to find out what people think of the song.
We don't have Million Dollar studios and $50,000 microphones, sometimes we should remind ourselves about that.
But, I do try for the best sound I can get. And this one was not the best produced song in the world. I must admit.
You're honest, that's what I like to hear on this site.
Thanks again

I like it &mdash 05/21/07 - 06:18:57 AM
The length is perfect, there are no rules which say a song should be 4 or 5 minutes long .. say what you need to say and finish it up.
The influences are clear ... not a bad thing, and though the production might be improved i wouldnt be concerned with it, you're making a demo right ? not a fully mastered cd for sale.
As far as the singing goes .. dont be afraid, let yourself go, it sounds great, may not be pitch perfect, but it doesnt need to be, and it will improve the more you do and the more relaxed about it you are.

Exactly &mdash 05/21/07 - 09:10:23 AM
Sometimes people forget that these are just demos.
I try to make them nice and leave it to the artist to add to it and put their spin on it.
Here's the basic structure to the song.
Don't have time to do a fully-mastered album, although I'd love to.
Thanks for listening and commenting.

lennon wedge &mdash 05/21/07 - 06:21:34 AM
I think that's the chorus on the piano/ guitar and the effect on the voice (flanger ?)that makes a bit like lennon, but I don't mind it a si rellay go for such sounds. I like the perc in the beginning. Isn't it a bit short ?

Thanks &mdash 05/21/07 - 09:20:29 AM
I just made up the song very quickly one night.
Should have made a longer intro, it does sound Lennoneque, and the bass is way too up.
I don't try to sound like John, it just seemed fitting.

length matters &mdash 05/21/07 - 11:02:00 AM
When I said it was too short, it wasn't in terms of rules or whatever, it's just that I thought " what, it's over too soon!" because I was having a good time. But then better too short than too long, everybody should agree on that.

No redeeming qualities

like the Beatles &mdash 05/21/07 - 09:21:08 PM
feel here. Also a Julian Lennon kind of sound, John Lennon sound.

Nice to be able to sing like that.

But it really has a unique sound all your own.

Nice!

Lennon lives?? &mdash 05/22/07 - 05:04:36 AM
It's been said above - very Beatley song - and lots to like about it.

The bass to me sounds out of control, and probably detracts from the song rather than adding to it. I'd be looking at some very serious compression and volume management on the bass so that it doesn't domiinate so much. Are you mixing on 'phones? I've been doing mixes on 'phones for a long while now and always have to adjust for their poor bass response. I recently got some decent near-field studio monitors and the bass management thing is becoming much easier. Boomy bass sounds good on some (few) systems, but generally causes me to race for the bass control on the stereo.
Sorry for ranting about the bass, but it is my main instrument, and I am very aware of how difficult it is to get it right.
Now, the vocals .... I don't think you should be overly concerned about your singing, and I would certainly be thinking about writing songs for yourself from now on rather than other singers. Vocals are something that develop with experience and growing confidence. To my ears you have all the requirements to develop into a capable vocalist.
I like the song (I really enjoyed Julian Lennon's "Saltwater") and look forward to more good stuff from you.
Peace,
Neil

Thanks Neil &mdash 05/23/07 - 04:33:46 AM
As I stated before, this was one of the first ones I did on GB. I was still getting used to the system and used some silly effect on the bass.I do use good headphones for mixing.
I guess I should re-mix it a bit and put it back up here.
Right now, I'm putting up some of my older stuff before the new (better mixed)stuff.....stay tuned!
The bass IS tricky on this system, but I think I've got it now.
Thanks a lot for the helpful comments....that's what I like about this site.

Good song &mdash 05/25/07 - 06:48:13 PM
I enjoyed this - very Beatlesque (in a good way). The bass cliping is a bit of a problem but otherwise I thought the mix was fine and I liked the vocal. Perhaps a re-mix some time. Thanks for sharing.
