Intriguing, Bill...
Is it my imagination, or do kids play more violently than when we were kids? Anyway, I'm always impressed with your creativity and perfect timing of all the instrumentation. This piece was mesmerizing to me. I imagined indians on the warpath, girls playing hide n seek, and a playground brawl that ended when half the kids left to go home for supper.

	I hear elements of Thomas Newman in the earlier section - he's a fave soundtrack composer of mine - American Beauty, Six Feet Under etc. But really this pure Smokey magic. 	Smokey You are one of the few artists who make really effective use of sound effects. Your percussion is also very well chosen on this piece and adds a lot to the different playful parts of the song. i say: go for it!

imitation... etc...

my only tip on using sound effects is to really listen carefully to what is in the effect itself - that can help define how to use it for your own purposes.

here, i initially tried to force the effects to fit my presumed timing by cutting it up and rearranging the pieces - eventually i abandoned most of that, and returned to a mostly uncut version (there's one in the middle)

i have deep admiration for the person that recorded the effect track in the first place - i don't know if it is edited, it almost seems like it might be. at the very least they recognized that it was a good playground recording and posted it on freesound - who knows if they threw away a few other lesser takes?

great piece
clearly an inspiration at work here. This a very evocative work. Builds into a very pleasant rhythmic thing, then fades gracefully. Cool rhythm choices, and seamless production, over all quite a pleasant experience and it's a little like watching a movie --
it'd be a cool soundtrack bit -- and when the the rhythm builds for a while, in my mind's eye I see a bicycle-cam view of an intense young rider, pumping madly, maybe late to school....

	. i was also experimenting with poly-rhythms here - this song actually started out as an exercise in that. the effect track became the catalyst to complete it as a song: everyone in the "playground" contributes their own "rhythm" to create the whole that is life. the emotions from the effect track changed how i placed the rhythm tracks in the mix. thanks Check out my latest song called Settle

	. thanks! the piano was in there from the very beginning. and that bass. the strings were added on way at the end, to push on the emotions of the thing. the field recording from freesound is definitely what cemented this song togther though - at least for me anyway. 	Oh yeah.... Where aural fades to visual and back again...Very creative soundscaping...Nice jazzy rhythms and piano melody. Love the bass groove that kicks in midway...I concur with what Bud said about this great piece "defying description"...All I know is that it WORKS! Be well man!

...there's some straight up, accessible, Vince Guarali-ness to this...

I could hear a more jazz-style upright bass kicking in on this... brushes on a snare, too... Prob'ly not what you're going for, of course, but I could HEAR it, as a possibility...

I really like the percussion that you did use, though...

	Hey Bill, I love this! Kids need all the imaginative outdoor playtime they can get. Praise for the good parents, who "eight and skate" to get home to their real (fun) job - of joining in and giving their children the same wonderful childhood they had.
