Description:
I promise that this is the last version of this tune I'll post here:)
I've posted like 3 different versions of this one earlier on.
One slow one
A latin one
And a bluesy one
However, this funky version is close to how we play it in my band nowadays.
I promise you this... I will start making new songs now.
Enough with the promises...
Lyrics:
promise
Thor Oliversen©2006
The minute we met
I felt I'd known you
for a long long time
I guess I gazed at your moves
sort of paralysed
'cause you shone like the moon
and everyone else was pale
Then I noticed you'd look at me
and I knew it was done
We lost what we had before
We would just have - this one
I didn't know it would come to this
(I couldn't see it coming)
It's a so strong feeling
So I promise you this
I will be what you loved at first
If you promise a kiss
To water my thirst
And now, you come to me
you tell me you're here.
And now, now I see
I want you so near.
Hardware:
Fender tele (mex), US fender strat, Tokai bass guitar, M-audio ozone keys, studio projects B1 mic.
Software:

Scandi R & B &mdash 05/18/07 - 06:21:57 PM
Love your guitar playing on this (and just about everywhere) Thor. You have a style which is sufficiently different to anyone else here that it's immediately noticeable as yours. This is a very cool song, and I really enjoy the Scandi R & B (in the traditional sense of the term) that you play. Nice groove with excellent production.
Cheers,

I am digging this... &mdash 05/18/07 - 08:02:57 PM
latest version... love those vocal harmonies when they kick in... got my grinning! Mellow funky, soulful song. Great guitar riffing in that solo. The song production sounds crisp and clear and yet warm.
My favorite version of this song is always the latest... this is no exception. Kudos soulman. [ Reply to This ]
Promise... &mdash 05/18/07 - 08:18:35 PM
that you won't quit putting out this great music! This is a great surprise to me... My old favorite before, now is just paralleled in appeal for me, in this funk mood.
She still is close, still is warm, and there is a feel to move...
nevermind, it's working very well and it's very good, thanks!

you have a great way with words &mdash 05/18/07 - 08:34:26 PM
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nice bluesy, jazzy stuff. Hey love that orchestration feel Ya! Getting uptown! Love to hear more of that. To me it really fits in with the rock sound. Has that soothing edge, which I would love to hear more in the rock world. Nice coloration with the funkness of the guitar. But the shimmering and the orchestration is something I've not heard you do much of but I really think it adds a lot of class. Gives this tune feel of distinction.
Of course the words (lyrics) are a real billboard for you. For some reason you seem to radiate the lyrics better that many i've heard here.

where have all the good times gone &mdash 05/18/07 - 09:11:02 PM
Boy this takes me back to a time when r&b soul ruled supreme. a dab of Boz Skaggs. alot of Hall & Oates (before the were pop) and countless others. Thor this ranks right up there! [ Reply to This ]
Thoddi &mdash 05/18/07 - 11:50:12 PM
I can't put a finger on it. Maybe its your sultry voice, or the way you hold the power of the guitar in your hand and unleash it as your emoton builds. Maybe it the harmonies you choose or the way you choose to perform them. But; When you put it all together with the recording skills you have, there is a product... supremo.
I love the organ holding the back of the rhythm section down. It backs up the harmonized guitar riffs real nice. I also really dig the string bends that you place so tastfully in just the right spots. One bodatious, outragout sound.
The lyric just touches the soul with a realizm that reals true. I can tell they are real feelngs you have shared.
Only one thing I would change the ending to be a long... long thoddi guitar solo fade out where you cut loose as you end the fade...kind of a Steely Dan trick that leaves you longing for more...
A time or two during this song( and I listened about five times) I thought there was something Dan-ish about the crisp funky jazzy, very hip production.
Thank you

This reminds a little of a British musician called Lewis Taylor...good soulful feel to vox and guitar work. Very nice

last version? &mdash 05/19/07 - 05:33:34 AM
when posting different versions of the same song, comparisons are unevitable. I litened to all four of them, and my favourite is still the bluesy one with JoJo. Well, all of them have their specific qualities of course, but that bluesy one lets your voice shine trough so beautifully, and - like i told you - makes me feel sitting in a smokey jazz club. Sometimes it's all about athmosphere and daydreaming :-) Is this really the last version? Naaaaah! I was hoping you were gonna do a moorlandt version as well :-)

A moorlandt version &mdash 05/20/07 - 03:41:50 PM
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment Walter. Appreciate it much:)
A moorlandt version could be very cool... Maybe another tune would be even cooler... I think I have met my saturation point with this one;)

Get Boz Scaggs on the phone... &mdash 05/19/07 - 05:46:10 PM
He doesn't know it yet, but he wants to hear this song...
I think this may be my favorite version so far...
I really like the guitar playing...how you're playing, the tone you're getting, and the groove...

yes, please call him;) &mdash 05/20/07 - 03:51:19 PM
I have to reveal my ignorance with Boz Scaggs. I checked him out in iTunes and in wikipedia. Quite an impressive CV.
He seems very versatile in style. From the smoothest pop songs to more bluesy and even country'ish music.
Thank you for dropping in and spending time with me. Your comments about my guitar work is making me think I must do something right:)
And thanks for shedding light on my black holes in music history:)
