Description:
All Garageband loops except the voice and the end which was through garageband voice transformer.
I wanted a light pleasant feel of travelling around the city with all the various sounds and scenes, cars, subway, open windows, workmen, chacters(depicted by the bass in parts), weddings etc., and all you might see as you walk around the city streets until tired you stroll homeward.
My first attempt with loops, so hope you like it,

I like it... &mdash 05/19/07 - 06:16:48 PM
...makes for a very upbeat walkabout.

Love the brief violin moving to the bass line.

I have yet to work with loops. This sounds great. Nice stereo effects and changes. Cool composition. Sounds like you've got a bit of theory under your belt? That and/or a great ear.

Phone call at the end is very cool. Really enjoyed this...

Welcome to macjams!

Hi, &mdash 05/19/07 - 06:41:35 PM
No Theory I'm afraid just a decent ear I suppose. I played vocal guitar and sang, for too many years LOL in a lot of places.
First time I tried to put loops together and I'm glad you liked it. I can mentally move around the city when I listen to it. I like the violin too LOL It's coming through an open window (in my mind) as a child has a lesson. The phone call is a loop but the female voice was just myself as I said with the transformer ( a bit like minnie Mouse but it's a lighthearted laugh for the finish. Thanks again for the comment, and the welcome,(still feeling my way around) regards M

good groove &mdash 05/21/07 - 02:10:55 PM
I like it, very sophisticated house sound mixed with a retro eighties vibe you get here. Not sure about the high pitched synths, they can sound a bit cheesy sometimes, but the general sound is great.

Thanks for your response and you're right it does have a retro feel. Still, Glad you liked it, cheers M

.. you listened right to the end. I wanted to give a certain feel and thanks to the loops I was able to tell a little story (I hope). The end of course is a lighthearted twist and hope it made you smile, M

nice trip &mdash 05/23/07 - 02:13:55 AM
I like the way you mix the different textures, while keeping the groov,I can visualize the opening scenes of that girl and the mary tyler moore shows, very 70's funky disco, I like your style

Yes... &mdash 05/23/07 - 06:43:22 AM
Made me laugh when you said about the Mary Tyler-Mooore thing, 'cause you're spot on with that nice observation, though I hadn't particularly thought of her. Glad you like it, M

Just started using loops myself &mdash 05/23/07 - 12:59:53 PM
and I'm amazed at what you can create with them. I also know how long it takes to put something like this together and how much trawling you have to do.

Nice one.

Cheers

Dick

Hi! &mdash 05/23/07 - 07:18:26 PM
Well yes there is a lot of trawling and even with all the loops in Garageband, there still aren't enough LOL. I could do with some really good drumbeats and a few 7th's in the music loops wouldn't go amiss, M

Nice work &mdash 05/24/07 - 07:29:11 PM
This is absolutely evocative of (please don't ask me why!) Peckham High Street in London for me. I lived there for a few months back in the late eighties, and found it to be a lively, rich place (even though people had told me not to live there). I really can't put my finger on why it puts me in mind of that time and place, unless it's something to do with the kind of music i used to listen to back then. This kind of reminds me in places of Tom Tom Club. Maybe I walked down the High Street listening to Tom Tom Club one day back in 1987 and this has brought it back to me!? Who knows. Either way, it's a nice groove, and very nicely put together. Good job. Peace.

Hi Thanks! &mdash 05/25/07 - 11:52:10 AM
I don't get to Peckham as I'm in Lancashire, but I do get to Kentish Town and Yes it is reminiscent of the city swirl, M

Jiggy-ing to this &mdash 05/24/07 - 10:08:41 PM
Hi there! Nice to meet you, welcome to Macjams, and thanks for your remarks on my songs. This is a really danceable loop arrangement! I am a fan of techno and dance or high energy songs in general. You really did this one very well with your meticulous choice of loops. There are quite a few loop-masters here, and there is always room for one more. ;)

Hi Leon.. &mdash 05/25/07 - 12:01:25 PM
and thanks a lot for the welcome. I don't think I'll be outdoing anyone in the loops department though LOL as it was just an experiment.... at first, but I keep looking for different sounds to put together now. I may have caught the bug; I've said before that I'm really new to this keyboard/loop stuff, so am very pleased that talented people like all of you have commented on my effort, M

good loopage &mdash 05/27/07 - 07:16:27 PM
Welcome to Macjams... thank you for the comment on my piece, I'm here to return the favor... very nice montage, and you stitched it together quite nicely, good sense of timing throughout. Nice use of recurring themes between sound effects/areas of the city... so if you're walking around the city, and this is a "Rondo" musical format, would this be considered a "Rondobout?" Anyway, this is very relaxing and listenable. The pitch-shifted voice at the end was obviously altered, but I bet you can find any number of female collaborators who would record a little snippet like that for you here at Macjams if you ask on the forum.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Hi There, &mdash 05/28/07 - 02:40:11 PM
Thanks for the comments and glad you liked it. The voice was my own in the voice transformer in Garageband (Male to female) and it was well before I found Macjams. Only got the Mac last Nov. and keyboard at xmas and all was new to me, so I'm trying to learn quickly at my age before it's too late LOL But wouldn't know how to go about recieving the help you say is on offer here... collaborations etc. Thanks again for the comment and the welcome, M

A huge compoliment to you should be that many points in this jam I felt a really solid Daft Punk vibe. not sure if youre familiar with them but theyre pretty amazing when it comes to electronica, great feel M

to call in on this song and I thank you for your comments, I'm not familiar with 'Daft Punk' but I gladly take your compliment on board. I always say that I like all kinds of music and Electronica is deffinitely included in that. I'd like to do more at some time, thanks again, M

GOOD GOOD GOOD... I would have worked the hell out of this track. Especially the Intro. It sounds similar to stuff I have done and still do... House Music. The ending just before the electro vocals are just superb of a groove. And I would have worked the HELL out of that as well and made a complete track/Song. I Wish a had a Copy of that specific chord file. I think you did a good job. A- my vote.

Thanks Art, &mdash 07/09/07 - 11:22:28 AM
That's praise indeed from a talent like you. I enjoyed doing it and it was the first (and the last come to think of it) complete loop track I've done, M

Great energy! &mdash 07/09/07 - 04:53:42 PM
I definitely got that "city streets" vibe. Are you an Art of Noise fan? I got a little taste of their style here and there in this piece. I like what you've done with this; it manages not to be repetitious (something that happens a lot in this genre) with the surprising sounds and instruments you bring into and out of the mix.

I do enjoy every kind of music and I know that I have heard Art of Noise in the past and liked them, but I can't think of anything specific that they've done. I must look them up though, but thanks for calling and leaving your comment, M.

Do you know what might work? &mdash 08/18/07 - 06:59:09 AM
If you took this tune and did an Ian Dury type talk-rap (now don't lose me yet) and put your poetry over it.

I'm thinking that the way he did "Reasons To Be Cheerful" would go down a treat! I really like your voice - are you a Mel Torme fan? Bet you are!

Just a suggestion - but that said, this is a great use of loops, and modern to boot. And 80s. And....well it's a lot of things to all. I like the cityscape idea. Would love to hear your voice over it.

Never say never!

Jim

Hi Jim &mdash 08/21/07 - 05:49:10 PM
Fancy seeing you down here LOL. I don't often come all the way back here as I thought it was deserted now. Anyway, Yes I do like Mel Torme'. Regarding this song, I never even thought of vocalising it as it was really an experiment when I frst got the computer/GB, but I'll give another listen and see if I can come up with something though. If I can't it's your turn LOL. Thanks for your praise... it really does mean a lot to me to read that. As you said "never say never", Thanks again M

I'm sure you're the Man! &mdash 08/24/07 - 02:08:51 PM
Take the experiment a wee bit further - I know you can!

I think it would work really well - the juxtaposition of the modern sounds with a true crooners velvet tones all over it!

Not asking for it ASAP - keep it on the simmer for a time that you feel like something different.

I'll be waiting! LOL!
