Description:
Just wrote this song today...have kept it pretty sparse and melancholic hehe

Lyrics:

Where ever you lay your heart
that's your home
hotel rooms all look the same
when you're on your own

Chorus
Are you checking out
of this lonely room
or checking in
for another day

And all the time I'm wondering
why you had to have to go
were the city lights too bright
for your gentle soul

Well I lay on the beach
the tide starts to come back in
but there's nothing the sunshine can do
to warm this troubled skin

I hit the minibar at half past two
but senseless drinking at night
won't bring back you

I'm watching a game show on TV
but this game is nothing
to the one you played on me!

composition. the voice of the yamaha is nice and warm but it needs a little tweak to make it fit better with the strings. Good work

I like sparse &mdash 05/19/07 - 03:26:34 PM
arrangements like these. Good vocal performance and guitar work. The strings near the end are a nice touch. There's a bit a hiss on the recording but it certainly didn't detract - and in the days of digital silence I actually find it adds a bit of welcome character.

Thanks for sharing. Peter

Empty room &mdash 05/20/07 - 07:07:35 AM
This has a lovely light, airy feel to it, like a service station at 3 am. - almost haunted. Your voice sounds great when it goes down to 'out' in the chorus.

Nice work, as per Steve.

Not bad for a "just wrote this song today" effort Steve!
Nice sounds - in your own very original style.

Nice singing &mdash 05/28/07 - 04:22:56 PM
and like the addition of the strings. Your vocal is a very natural good -sounding -deeper -type - voice which is refreshing here. Got to have some those stevel voicings because MJ would not be the same with out it!

Nice

Sweet &mdash 05/29/07 - 07:22:10 PM
This brings back memories of when I had to do a lot of traveling for the job I had then.
Good use of it as a metaphor for affairs of the heart. Really like these lyrics. Beautiful guitar and soulful vocal makes it a winner!
