Description:
Mcboy invited me to remix some of his playing, and also sent me a Z293 solo. I asked Drew to play some bass for it, and here's the earthpounding result! Rock concert volume recommended.

Mcboy: rhythm and lead guitars
Z293: lead guitar
Drew Kopr: bass

mix is nice-- i cannot get nmine that loud...nice mix of heavy distorted guitars, and a kind of modern trip hop drum..

good switch ups, and changes...the representative from cali gives it a 10!

Oh no... there goes To-ky-o... &mdash 05/19/07 - 10:41:50 PM
Go, go, godzilla!...

This thing has impact like four sledgehammers...

You guys know how to play, arrange and mix so that something this hard-edged and hard-hitting doesn't end up sounding like sludge... Tremendous impact and intelligence combined with great clarity....

This is another of those ones where the tremendous chops on display from all involved never end up sounding gratuitous... A place for everything, and everything in its place... And a bit of good humor in the blend as well...

It's particularly great for me to hear Drew's bass again... I've probably missed something along the way, but it has seemed way too long...

Really great, and loads of fun...

The guitars rhythm chops sounds fab. It's like they're cut off at the end of each strum. Fast licks, great mix, fab sounds, delicious drums... everything is pro and right on! The bass is deep, powerful and tight into the drums, just like I love to hear:)

Wow Dave! &mdash 05/20/07 - 02:26:12 PM
Dave, your attention to detail is unreal. This final mix is just fat, balls-out great. What a blast I had playing on this one...great guitar parts, great drum grooves, cowbell (you have to have cowbell you know), and Dave's juice and production are fabulous. I love the effects you used to sweeten up the sound in a few parts and how you synched the tune up to make it flow smoothly. Just a fantastic production and writing job and wonderful playing/writing by two outstanding guitarists. Shizzle.

Now that I've &mdash 05/21/07 - 04:56:15 PM
Had a chance for more than a few more listens. I'd be willing to bet none of the original backing during my solo was from the original. But I wouldn't expect McBoy to keep it the same for long. And yes you did catch me by surprise. Drew and McBoy really were in top form for this one and I don't how you manage to not skip a beat adding drums to a project that is already pretty much spelled out already.

[ Reply to This ]
You are correct &mdash 05/22/07 - 04:56:06 PM
The rhythm guitar during your solo is relatively new stuff from Mcboy. He allowed quite a bit of flexibility in how I might add the drums'n'stuff, so I went a little weird with it, but I like the resulting pounding beat. As for adding drums to existing music like this, it's probably what I'm best at, really; all of my tunes with Vac are pretty much that way, for example--he gives me completed riffs and basslines etc. to work with.

holy mocha crappe! this nearly knocked me right out of my swivel chair!

wow! now, for some of us, conveying a certain level of weight and power is not actually very easy. lord knows, I've tried. but this one just delivers with a quick hit and doesn't let up. it's not over-the-head, by any means, it's just straight forward.

this would make a great soundtrack piece and the underlying riff would make a great radio bumper. of course, it's best consumed as a whole, despite how filling this one is!

great stuff and really enjoyed the impact! sounded GREAT on my Altec Lansing speakers, btw!

thank you

Instead of picking up my jaw, I found it easier to just get down here where things are down and dirty w/ this most outrageous and 'strange, beast'... Well..., that's what Wikipedia called ya! I hadda look it up just to see what the deal was and the description was, dead on! This little tunage is host to monster talents.

Everything here is big! There are seemingly no minute details! From the larger than life opening act, to the chunky assed bass, that grooves and stomps you through a forest of some finely tuned sounds that are worthy of national monument status. Unlike living to die trees, this is action packed w/ what makes ya know, that at least somebody, is gonna live forever. It's definitely live and well - And it's movin' too, while taking gigantic steps to the next level.

I LIKE the larger than life beat! The pure rawness of it...

And it is dangerously grooven.

The screetchn' fatly packed military march of a clap...

The wildness of the tangle of g'tars... tearin up the path to wherever they wanna go - And they do take ya places where man hadn't yet gone...

The funk laced bass climbn' all over and under everything rendering lesser things, gutless...

The percussive bangn' that says I'm coming, and there ain't nothin you can do about it...

And the relentless drive of the kick, at times...

The drumming keeps layn' it down the way it outta be done, cause that's just what the f'k is up...

You, mighty sirs, just blow me away!

Macca
