Description:
The Skank Brothers experience of being shut out at many a record company has inspired this story...Hank's voice says it all.
Lyrics:
Please let me in
Don’t throw me out
‘Cos I got something to shout about…
You took me in, you caught me out
I stare at you but you stare me out.
Staring down at me
The place to be
Tricks on my eyes
Fool not to realize.
Dish ran off with the silver spoon
And all because they were both in tune.
You keep me up and you pull me down
And I am torn, I am duty bound.
Staring down at me
Place that I wanna be,
Playing tricks on my eyes -
A fool not to realize.
The hours tick by and I can’t get in
Is it because I’ve lived in sin?
I’ll hide myself for the rest of the day,
I need you now the Dakota way….
Please let me in
Don’t throw me out
‘Cos I got something to shout about…
You took me in, you caught me out
I stare at you but you stare me out.
Staring down at me
The place to be
Tricks on my eyes
Fool not to realize.
The Dish drove off with the silver spoon
And all because we were both in tune.
You keep me up and you pull me down
And I am torn, I am duty bound.
Staring down at me
Place that I wanna be,
Playing tricks on my eyes -
A fool not to realize.
The hours tick by and I can’t get in
Is it because I’ve lived in sin?
I’ll hide myself for the rest of the way,
I need you now the Dakota day….

Without Hyperbole &mdash 05/21/07 - 04:24:45 PM
I can say that this is the greatest song ever written. Waitaminite, that's not a hyperbole, that's an exaggeration. No, it's not an exaggeration, it's the truth.

Thumbs Up! &mdash 05/21/07 - 04:27:18 PM
I remember back when I discovered Webb Wilder... this makes me feel the same way. 'Cept you guys have a synth in there, which is very cool. I just had a few jollypops so my words aren't very musical but man, I really like this tune. Welcome to MacJams, Bros. [ Reply to This ]
Black House Dakota &mdash 05/21/07 - 04:36:19 PM
Hi Skank Brothers,
Wow! what a fantabulous song. I wonder why it makes my very inner being tremble with hostility.
If a song ever sang to me it's this one. By sing, I mean pulling the tapestry of my brief married life to such a taunt degree as to rip the very fiber of the tattered remains of my soul.
I remember a very special evening where my lovely wife and I had a heated, appletini induced argument over what state Little House on the Prairie was filmed in. What was her guess? South Dakota. Mine? Delaware.
This is just your way of mocking me.........Wankers!!!

Nice bass line, and great use of keyboards and guitar throughout. Vocal performance is great. You have a great vocal presence. Great production. Totally stuck in my head. This will be the soundtrack for the morning. Thanks for sharing. Nice work. Peace. [ Reply to This ]

Genre - other &mdash 05/22/07 - 11:03:52 AM
well, the genre is aboiut right, cos this covers a lot of bases, but overall, I'd file it under groovy. This is a really original pieve of work, with elements of rock, pop, dance and 60's cop show theme songs. Groovin guitar lines and Hanks best vox yet - love the various vocal tracks on this. A completlely menatlly unbalanced piece of music - awesome.

Hey Tom, you are so punk rock! You know, it's really too bad you weren't able to be in town when Jim and I met. There could've been a third version of the Five Ninth song. Can you imagine the trouble we could've caused?
A tattoo of a band name would be the least of it.

You are so punk rock, you can't even be detected by today's Punk Rock standards.
You've redefined the safety pin.

Let's hear some more gentlemen! Nice production, groovy bass, inspired vocals, interesting changes. You have a quirky style that I hope will continue to permeate through your music. Very original indeed. This is a strong sprint out of the gate. [ Reply to This ]
skank scam &mdash 05/23/07 - 08:33:52 AM
this sounds strangely familiar:has five-extra-arms's own jessie garon been found in dakota ? Infectious bass line and cavalcading keys makes this highly entertaining. I especially like the synth coda. [ Reply to This ]
Skank Skam? &mdash 05/25/07 - 01:19:42 PM
Well you know, I am pretty famous for my infectious bass lines but have never been accused of cavalcading keys. I'll take both compliments, thank you very much. Willie actually came up with the bass, guitar, drums, lyrics, egg shakers and banjo parts. As I understand it, Hank Skank "sang" and maybe added the brilliant synth coda you speak about.
Does everybody laugh when they see me say things like this? I hope so. I'm laughing when I say it.
STOP.

Good start Skankers. Cool bass, and the other instruments too, but it's the vox that makes this work so well. Lyrics -interesting and amusing. The whole thing is certainly infectious as _nderscore said: "Skank Fever".
Glad you're here!

Infected With Skank Fever &mdash 08/14/07 - 12:12:47 PM
Thanks Neil,
This was a really fun song. Willie pretty much did everything musical while I, Hank sat and watched with my boots up on the PA cabinet. We debated about the crazy electro bit at the ending, but Willie made it work as he is pure magic in the studio.
Thanks for checking us out!
