Keywords:
Dharma Desperation (4)
Description:
“WAITING”

The letter that doesn’t come. The phone that won’t ring. The answer you can’t find. The song that won’t write. The unanswered prayer.

Sometimes life becomes filled with the sins of wanting; demanding desires that become the birds of prey. Sometimes you are suddenly face-to-face with the interminable; the Waiting and not knowing. Its importance is it’s power and it can be considerable. So it goes.

PRODUCTION:
Neil “Drivin’ Wheel” Porter – Architect
Bass
Kit
Final Mix (LOGIC)
Master (Ozone 3)
Vision and Experience

It’s Folk/Rock with a Rock n Roll heart.
Nothing too serious, just an observation.

Very best,
Neil and Coop

Lyrics:
THE WAITING

The Waiting
Is the Hardest Thing

There’s no Ending
And you don’t know how
It ever Begins

Visions of the Future
Flicker in the Candle Flame
But the way of the Fates
Is often hard to explain

Oh, the Waiting
It can Break your Heart
As it takes from you, everything
You knew from the Start

You’re Never going to
Know for Sure
Why They didn’t Come
Some ways it’s Over, Before it’s Begun

Oh, the Waiting
Time has Come.

[Break]

Oh, the Waiting
Steals the Light from the Day

And Nighttime just echoes
With things yet to Say

The curtains blow as the Sun goes down
But there’s no magic in the Lights of Town
And Beauty and Truth watch as Stars go by

Oh, the Waiting
Can the Hope survive?

Your sounding better than ever. Seriously guys this one killer track. It's got everything I like and more.

"The curtains blow as the Sun goes down
But there%u2019s no magic in the Lights of Town...

great image and sentiment. The playing all around is stellar - but the vocal sound is what really sends this over the top. Great work!

I hear shades of The Dead and Neil Young and one great Story in Cuppa Joe. A Classic and new Fav.

The arrangement of the Sound Stage, here, all came from Australia, Neil "Drivin' Wheel" Porter at the controls.
He's learned a thing or two about how LOGIC works, which are on display here in the Vocal.

Nice to Hear from You,
Coop

LEARNING CURVES &mdash 05/22/07 - 01:50:02 PM
We may be Old, Brother, but still learning this new and fangled stuff (speak for myself).
We don't Intentionally flatten the waves, but I'm convinced that learning how to subtract the right things for a Mix is a Higher level than the addition technique!

Greatly appreciate you dropping in for a Spin.

very best regards,
Cooper

Hotness :) &mdash 05/22/07 - 04:41:10 PM
Thanks for dropping in Mcboy! It's pretty difficult to mix Coop's guitar and vocals any other way - it's all pretty raunchy in the guitar department, so easiest way to go is to mix it up to that level. Will have a shot at a mix with some more room in it and see what happens. Thanks for the comment - always appreciated!

THE "Drivin' Wheel" puts that awesome Bass out there and you could hang ribbons on it and it would sound great.

Glad it got a foot tapping over there.

classic &mdash 05/22/07 - 03:47:14 PM
What a treat guys. This is a classic rock'n roll tune. From the crunchy rhythm guitar to the driving bass and drum groove.

I'm right down impressed with the production the man from down under comes up with nowadays.

And here's a proof of a great songwriter. The melody, chord progression and some lyrics that goes straight home with me.

A favorite and a D/L.
High scores, if you'd let me:)

I will say the Mix on Promise is the best I've heard lately.
We're trying, though.

Thank you so much for the Spin. Great to hear from You.

Gnarly vocals &mdash 05/24/07 - 12:42:56 PM
great guitar playing, loads of energy, and really emotional vocals (I love the reverb on the vocals on this). Guys, this literally sounds like a classic rock track - on first hearing, it's got the sort of feeling that gets you in your guts, like all great songs do.

"Gnarly" is the least of it, but they sure get magnified in the 24-96 environment!
Got to be more careful.

Really appreciate your "take" on it, you're a close listener.
The "Sound" is all Neil and the Magic machines in NSW. He's the author of the "Package".

Great to hear from You.

very best to You,

You're right.
13,400 miles and there is a lot of real, normal life-like interaction to how it comes together.

Inexplicable, really. Just the universal magic of the music, I guess.

Thank you for dropping in for a Spin, Brother

No 12 String but a touch of the sylistic plaint of your neighbors, out there.

Your considerations of the piece are a great honor.
Your bravery shows by venturing so far into the raucus, which is simply the mischief of two Toe Tappers in cahoots.

I respectfully send my regards to You,

I love the guitar sounds. Real garage band sound...not the digital GB the real garage man. How do you do that. Is this a mic on an amp?

nice lyric and vocal delivery

great great no compromize song

SAY, BROTHER &mdash 05/27/07 - 12:34:39 AM
It would be, if I still had the Twin and could compress it enough to make it useable. No, the six-string gtr Voices go into blank GB tracks from A VOX ToneLab - a modelling sim. The baby Marshall (A 25) is a delightful, One Trick pony, but, one trick only. And there is the tricky part of there being less than a unanimous consensus in the house about loud rock and roll (my wife is a classically trained soprano - comprehensive and sensitive hearing).

In Connecticut I had a barn, but no internet. Now, of course: internet and no barn. Can't win for losing, eh?

with very best regards to You,
Coop

A Beatles 6th Chord? &mdash 05/27/07 - 06:39:51 PM
Did I detect a Beatles Sixth Chord at the end. Nice touch.

Good overall sound. Your voice sounds like an analog recording, rather than digital, from about 35 years ago. That is not a bad thing in my book.

Good job.

YOU'RE TOO MUCH &mdash 05/27/07 - 07:14:31 PM
So close, and accidental, in the main!
That is a Flatted Seventh that plays against the Major and, indeed, ends up sounding like a 6th from the -"SOURCE"- (more than 35 years for such said influence).
You are a full tilt boogy listener to get That at the end of a fatiguing three minute twelve Sonic saunter! Totally Impressed!

If you were a betting man, you could be safe with the position that, try as I might, what I come up with is going to, unwaveringly, have a varnish of thirty-five years or so ago.
But, it's all new to me when it comes around.

Great Call. Too Much.

Coop

good tune &mdash 05/29/07 - 12:39:41 PM
Really relate to those lyrics right now with something I'm going through.

I agree with many of the references to the sound above, particularly Neil Young. The steady forward pounding working your way through it all till somebodys gonna hear your call.

Good guitars.

Cool Coop &mdash 05/30/07 - 10:09:39 PM
As close to a cover song as macjams will allow. Tom Petty- "The waiting is the hardest part" w/some Neil Young twinges. Everything fits and the plays', well done.

He just Hooks It Up on this stuff.

now coop, why didn't ya tell me i'd lost my mind by putting the following review on the WRONG song???? sorry - i downloaded this, and promplty posted a review on a different page. mia farrow culpa!!

mmmm, neil - that slippery slidey bass is sooo beautiful, and really sets up a super foundation for what follows. good job puttin it at just the right volume, too. it sometimes takes me a while to get used to the cutting edge to your vocal, coop - it's like the knife that cuts right through, doncha know -:) but once i surrender to it within the groove, the lyrics begin to reveal themselves. "you don't know how it ever begin" - most EXcellent sparkling lyrical nugget! who among us can not relate to that at some time in our lives? great job on the solo - changes were perfect, and i could easily have heard more guitar from you on the way out. i really enjoyed this one, boyz. it's loaded in my Logic Express, and the 3 of us are gonna have some fun tonite, whether you know it or not. splendid offering! anne the fog-headed elder
