Description:
Here is my rendition of the LIOLI4 challenge, and installment one of MBR vs. Orson Welles.

Believe it or not, that piano loop is featured through the entire song, almost. I nearly got the train in there for the whole shebang, but I couldn't hack it.

That freakin' locomotive sample can be found here, for those who would have the interest: Laurent Locomotive

Thanks for stretching this one out of me, Bud and Chikoppi.

"Small spinning fragment of solar driftwood" - what a great line. I really like what you've done with the loop - I couldn't find this space. Excellent production and interesting story - there's a lot going on here though the feeling is minimalist. Thanks for joining in the challenge.

Thanks for the listen, I'm glad you picked up on what I was going for in this tune. You must have ears like mine, you don't wear ear plugs do you? That's too close to mine.

Back in time? &mdash 05/24/07 - 11:46:42 PM
How is the retro? I'm genuinely curious. No one's said that of my music before, I don't think.

the mood...
the spoken words paint pictures
over the mood...
the trains run through the night
and through the mood...
into my dreaming mind

really &mdash 05/24/07 - 06:42:25 PM
nice. orson's voice sounds so good over your track. i really like the rhythm that you chose. I also opted to leave the piano in for the entire song. you did a really great job on this one.

At first . . . &mdash 05/24/07 - 11:39:54 PM
the piano loop drove me mad; then I realized I had downloaded it in a compressed temp. After stretching the midi loop out to 120 bpm and reversing the whole thing, it sounded much better. Only after a week could I willingly put the thing forward into the tune.

I'm glad you liked the way it turned out.

Backwards and forwards &mdash 05/25/07 - 08:01:54 AM
through time. I base that, of course, on the flow of the piano loop (from backwards to forwards). Very nice job on this! :)

Thanks for the beats comments. Since I've been listening to AFX's Analord EP's, electronic percussion's become the theme of the month. Long live acid techno! (until the next genre of the month arrives by mail.

I couldn't tell you what loops are which, and if they were in fact loops at all. I do know that I enjoyed this, and I'm glad it was pointed out to me.

the loops &mdash 05/27/07 - 11:19:45 AM
are the spoken word samples from the 1938 W.O.W. radio broadcast. The rest is "original" midi pencil tool work.

thanks for stopping by,

Both your slowly evolving music and dropping of voice samples in the mix kept my attention the entire listening time. Excellent production.

Great transformation of the loops Greg. The voice-overs work so well & I especially like the way you've given the piano loop a kind of whimsical kind feel by slowing loop down & having that terrific 'fat' bass line add an extra 'ominous' touch to the overall mood.
Great Stuff!
Cheers,
Alf

Nice LIOLI entry. I hadn't thought of slowing the loop down. Great idea. orson does this one proud, very soothing and mellow.

Thanks Race Rat, &mdash 06/07/07 - 11:03:51 AM
If I hadn't slowed the loop down, I wouldn't have been able to stand it, unless I dressed up like Charlie Chaplin and and pantomimed a silent film. Can't see myself doing that, so I decided to change it up.
