Description
This little piece is a northern German folk song, which is sung in a north german idiom: "Plattdütsch", short "Platt". I tried to keep it simple, because it gets its cuteness from some simplicity. Recorded with the built in I-Mac micro, guitar from GB.

Lyrics
Dat Du meen Leevsten büst,
dat Du wohl weest!
Kumm bi de Nacht,
kumm bi de Nacht,
sech, wo du heest!
Kumm bi de Nacht,
kumm bi de Nacht,
sech, wo du heest!

Kumm Du um Mitternacht,
kumm Du Klock een!
Vader slöpt,
Moder slöpt,
Ik slap aleen!
Vader slöpt,
Moder slöpt,
Ik slap aleen!

Klopp an de Kammerdoor,
fat an de Klink!
Vader meent,
Moder meent,
dat deit de Wind!
Vader meent,
Moder meent,
dat deit de Wind!

Dat Du meen Leevsten büst,
dat Du wohl weest!
Kumm bi de Nacht,
kumm bi de Nacht,
sech, wo du heest!
Kumm bi de Nacht,
kumm bi de Nacht,
sech, wo du heest!

Translation:
You are my beloved,
you know!
Come in the night,
come in the night,
say your name!
Come in the night,
come in the night,
say your name!
Come at midnight,
come at clock one!
Father sleeps,
Mother sleeps,
I sleep alone!
Father sleeps,
Mother sleeps,
I sleep alone!

Knock on the chamber door,
Touch the door latch.
Father thinks,
Mother thinks,
that does the wind.
Father thinks,
Mother thinks,
that does the wind.

You are my beloved,
you know!
Come in the night,
come in the night,
say your name!
Come in the night,
come in the night,
say your name!

simple is great
Very nice... and quite good singing too! Thank you for the translation as well, I only recognized a few words, but felt better when I read the description that this is a very different German than I would have learned in High School! Of course, I still don't understand the translation, because I never did anything sneaky like that when I was younger (blush)... so now that I have a teenage daughter, I listen for every click in the house. :-)

Thanks Drak...
my older daughter is eleven years old now, I know what you are talking about...

"Dad, you talk to me like you have forgotten how it was to be young!"

"No daughter, I have not forgotten anything, I remember everything, that's it!!!"

Thanks for listening and leaving a nice comment.

Greetings,

Bernd

This is really nice!
I have a 23 yr. old daughter that I scarcely see and a 4 month old granddaughter that I have yet to see! I made some bad choices in the past. I hope to be more involved in there lives in the future. This song brought forth many a watery eyed memory. Thanks Elektro! You did a fine job on this one all around.

Thanks!
Thank you for listening and your very personal comment. I wish you the best with your family. I for myself live seperated from my family, but I have a very good connecction to my kids, I think.
So what can I say: Life means trying to make the best of it.

Greetings!

Bittersweet...
...at least for me...Musically quite lovely and well sung. Emotionally kind of tough...makes me think of my beautiful young grand daughter, her divorced parents, and all the hard stuff she is going through...Nice one Bernd. This touches the heart!

Be well!

Thank you!
Thanks for listening and your kind comment.

Yeah, that is our time: patchwork families... I am not happy about his, because I have one myself. My personal history is full of broken families, but I have one shining exception: My adoptive parents married on 05-31-1949. Today they are married for 58 years!

And I know, they both knew about this song before they married...:)

Greetings,

Bernd

I understand...
I come from a thrice broken home. I'm in my second marriage. First one didn't last long. Thankfully there were no children (that was part of the problem...I wanted them...she didn't!). With my second marriage I got lucky (also learned not to be such a jack-ass!). Diane and I have been together since 1974 and are very, very happy. We hope it will make a lasting impression on our sons and grandchildren. This is the planet of the walking wounded after all...

Be well friend!
