Description:
acoustic song

Lyrics:
miles and miles and miles
and miles apart
nothing ever changed
in my heart
away in the distance,
you fade so slow
years from now,
this all be years ago

days and days and days
have gone by
seasons change,
kissed by the summer sky
the evening light
sinks so low
years from now,
it burned so bright years ago

here on my side of the spinning world
I hold so tight to every word
I came so close to the edge of it all
You were there to catch me
when I fall
catch me when I fall
catch me when I fall
catch me when I fall
catch me when I fall

Moses split the sea,
and we parted ways
clinging to the shore,
I slip beneath the waves
surrender to the tide,
and feel it flow
years from,
just drifted years ago

here on my side of the spinning world
I hold so tight to every word
I know now that after all
You were there to catch me
when I fall
catch me when I fall
catch me when I fall
catch me when I fall
catch me when I fall

Awesome Tune &mdash 05/31/07 - 12:18:00 PM
Great emotion Mr.X - this is wonderful on all levels - the picking - the lyrics - the vocal style - the performance - the subject matter - the production - the vibe & mood have hit me square in the heart - today I needed that - well done and thank you!
Blessings,

thanks &mdash 06/01/07 - 06:34:13 AM
hey...thanks for such a nice comment! Its was a song that came together pretty fast. I first thought of the 'years from now, this will be years ago' phrase as a catchy way to look at a situation from a different persective. Then I built the song around that. thanks for you comment!

Hey RacerX &mdash 05/31/07 - 01:23:18 PM
the writing here is heart wrenching, resigned and honestly delivered... I have a few nit picks about the delivery... sometimes it seems the guitar speeds up in sections... and I would really want the pace of this song to stay on the back side... I would deliver this slowly and deliberately... It seems also that as you enter the "here on my side" section, that there is no definate melody... that should be nailed down, so that the melody speeks the same thing as the lyric... I only bring these 2 things up because this is sooo good... much respect here, and take this with a gain of salt...

going back over your lyric again, I have to say this is most impressive, and it reaches me, even over any critique I may have

timing &mdash 06/01/07 - 06:38:43 AM
I think doing more than one take would have solved some of the timing issues. Also playing the main chord changes with either half notes, quarter notes or eighth notes might give the song a jerky feel ,but get you on slowing it down.
As far a the chorus melody, I sort of still pondering that. thanks very much for the constructive comments

It's about time! &mdash 05/31/07 - 01:34:13 PM
But well worth the wait. Really good guitar playing by the lyrics and your heart-rending vocal delivery put this over the top for me man. Major kudos!

Be well!

emotion &mdash 06/01/07 - 06:46:41 AM
It is an emotional song for sure. I played it maybe 50 or 60 times before I recorded it. Its a good one for an acoustic set, easy to play. Actually it's easier to do this one live because I hit my vocal marks a lot better. I tuned my guitar to
C-A-C-G-C-E so those open notes really ring, thanks for commenting!

Wait is over &mdash 05/31/07 - 02:36:15 PM
... as has been said, this has been worth the wait. The lyrics are really clear and simple, and express a wonderful, honest feeling of longing and regret. You sing this with real worn-hearted passion. I love little stop after the first verse, almost like the song itself has broken down.

thanks &mdash 06/01/07 - 06:53:33 AM
There really is a great deal of personal emotion that went into the track. Technically, it has timing issues and clanked notes here and there, but all in all it's okay. thanks for your nice comments

[ Reply to This ]
I agree with you completely. &mdash 06/02/07 - 11:50:27 AM
The 'issues' and 'clanks' make it all the more human to me, and lend immediacy to the listening of it, so if YOU are comfortable with it, then the ART SHINES THROUGH, and perfect technique be damned.

I hear Bob Dylan's voice ringing in here at times. What an excellent and memorable song. Thanks. Makes me wish I could play guitar like that.

guitar fab, vocals and emotion in them .. are brilliant .. touch of Tom Waites .. I like the way after you'ld
sung the guitar playing seems to spring off of that emotion become much better as the song went on.

A really beautiful song, will great sentiment in the
lyrics.

whoa &mdash 06/01/07 - 07:00:10 AM
I really like your comment! thanks so much! Probably the guitar got more precise as I went along, got into the groove. I really should have recorded the guitar at least 4 times and picked the best take. Usually by the 3rd one, I'm hitting the groove really well. I think perhaps, I was in a hurry. thanks for stopping by!

LOL... I was looking at my brand new I-mac (my first Apple), just searching for my point of view regarding the huge amount of eye candy in front of me, curious about what will happen with the built in cam. Used to have Linux only before...

tom, you've got such a unique vocal - it's thick, it's gritty, it's REAL, and it's good. love the acoustic guitar work. lyrics are not trivial - the "years from now, this all be years ago" line was way cool. your debut song is well received by these ears. enjoyed your work - anne

cool line &mdash 06/01/07 - 04:57:45 PM
thanks very much for your nice words. I like that line too. It's actually not profound but just clever like a good card trick, It's the very first thing I thought of, maybe 3 months ago. I built the whole song around that line, thankd for stopping by!

Soul Music &mdash 05/31/07 - 09:41:53 PM
Every part of this song is an extension of the lyric and that's the kind of thing that can make a good song great. You play with astonishing emotion and sing with even more. The lyrics, the turns of phrase are wonderfully written and tremendously moving.

Nostalgia, regret, longing and love. This song has it all and thank you so much for posting it, Mr. X. I'm so happy to have your music here
.

thank you &mdash 06/02/07 - 04:28:30 AM
for the thoughtful comment. I was happy it came together so well and easily. sometimes it seems to do that. my original intention was to add a few more instruments but a friend said leave it. Simple arrangements sometimes work well in the context of the subject and lyrics. thanks for commenting!

Beautiful &mdash 05/31/07 - 10:04:01 PM
in every way. The singing is outstanding - expressive and rich - and the guitar work is very nicely done, with a great sound and a sure touch. "here on my side of the spinning world" is a great line. You are a talented dude. Nice work. Peace.

thanks for the comment and I'm glad you like that line. I think the spinning part is cool. gives it some action. Thanks for the talent comment, musically, it's lots and lots of practice. lyrically , lots of unused words. I'm thinking about a piece from all angles. someting this simple, that's much easier to do. thanks for stopping by!

Moses &mdash 06/02/07 - 04:43:12 AM
that's definitely my favorite for sure. Moses parted the Sea and people split, I switched the words around and when a person is in that situation, it's as huge as a an ocean coming apart inside them. The enormity of the character's life coming apart. and then just cut loose powerless by the currents of emotions and sorrow. Thank you very much for your comment!

rich in many ways &mdash 06/01/07 - 04:33:43 PM
Very rich guitar tone recorded, rich vocal sound... but most important are the deeply touching (but carefully worded) lyrics, and the beautiful way you play the guitar (has a babbling-stream feel), and sing the words with such "resigned intensity". Bravo for a heavy ballad, well done!

I appreciate the nice comment. I think sometimes it's good to keep it simple. I was thinking of Fire & Rain by James T. (not that I'm nearly in that league) it is still just an amazing song but simple. Sometimes all, the elements work well together. I think of taylor and cat stevens and bruce springsteen and they all keep stuff pretty simple for the heavy ballad genre. Of course, I have a bunch of song that don't work ;-)

emotion &mdash 06/02/07 - 09:17:52 AM
Thanks for your comment. It's interesting, I often when I write song , have an editor I work with listen. She always says, you need not show emotion in your voice when you sing. Listen to Frank Sinatra, he's cool as hell and lets the words to all the 'heavy lifting' I'm not sure I buy into that totally. But I mentioned Fire and Rain by James Taylor in an earlier comment and for such a gut-wrenching song, he keeps his voice pretty cool. Then again you got your Damien Rice who sounds like he's always on the verge of tears. But this is an emotional song so I think emotion in the voice is okay, thanks for stopping by!

This was from the heart wasn't it? Lot of pain here.

I almost didn't listen to, because after reading the lyrics, it related to some of the pain I'm going through right now. I listened to anyway, and felt the pain. Good tune.

Liked the gritty vocals, enhances the tune alot.
