Description:
I just got my Ivory piano. I had composed this one on LE Steinway but then changed it to the German Concert D10 Steinway from Ivory. I like the melody but I could not tweak anything yet because haven't had much time to play with my new software, Looks promising. Thank you Paul!
I imagine dancing with my wife all night to a romantic melody. Problem is: I don't dance! Oh well......

Lyrics:
none

Hardware:
Clavinova CVP-98 Yamaha, Macbook with firewire external drive, M-Audio Uno

Software:
LE with Ivory Piano

This IS a romantic melody...I can hear Gershwin & Scott Joplin in the first section. In the 3/4 'Mazurka'? section, definately Chopin! Then, Debussy makes an entrance!

The tempo is very lively- I'd really like it slower to relish all the subtleties you've written & (more importantly) I can't waltz much faster than 60 BPM! ;) But, I can't really dance anyway...!

What a lovely vignette Enrique, you've managed to capture romance from various periods & styles. I'm sure your wife would love to dance the night away with this pretty tune...(I know mine would!)
Many Thanks!
Alf

I guess since I don't know how to dance, tempo is irrelevant for me! I am glad you liked it

Learn to Dance! &mdash 06/01/07 - 06:07:13 AM
Enrique, this is a wonderful composition. Why imagine dancing, when you can learn? It's a lot of fun and women love to dance.

God bless,

Rick

Like always is good to hear from you. By the way, when I was 18, I asked somebody to dance with me at a New Years party. I danced so bad she started laughing, I turned red in embarrassment and walked out! Is the last time I have even tried! LOL

Not only a nice piece, but the ivory software really makes the piano sound sparkle. But as people said on my latest romantic dance tune, "make it longer!" Dawn came too quickly on this piece, just as the dance was getting started :-) This really gives me that dancing urge.

Tickling the Ivory &mdash 06/01/07 - 08:10:39 AM
Excellent. Isn't Ivory great? You may want to compress the file a tad before posting, since it is bit quiet, but not too much to distort the light quality of the settings/playing. I've found that the fabulous quality of the Ivory sound (in headphones) while I'm playing inspires me... and that the post-mixed sound is never quite as inspiring; which makes it kind of an intimate experience. I love Ivory. Glad you can experience now too. I enjoy your Chopin style immensely.

Hi Tobin &mdash 06/03/07 - 07:18:02 PM
Coming from you, I appreciate your comments. Pardon my ignorance, but how do you "compress them a bit?".
Thank you

Great... &mdash 06/01/07 - 04:27:38 PM
...I have to save my money for ivory... I loved your light and romantic playing earlier, but with this sparkling typical Steinway it is really a new dimension.

There is a little Chopin to hear, some jazzy taps, some Debussy, but it has not only a style of its own, it has your style. That's artistry!

Thanks a lot for sharing,

Greetings from Germany,

Bernd

Hi Bernd &mdash 06/03/07 - 07:33:12 PM
You are right. Ivory is great although it needs a lot of storage space. I have to use an external firewire drive (you can get one in the US for only 150.00 or so), plus 300.00 for the software, which I believe should also run in GB. I know it works with LE since that is what I am using. When you play your keyboard with a good set of headphones (I have Westone UM2), it is heaven! I now have 3 great pianos in my living room!

J'essaye d'apprendre le français mais il est difficile s'il n'y a personne pour le pratiquer avec. Therefore, please excuse my many mistakes. Mercy Beacoup!

Impressed! &mdash 06/05/07 - 07:24:09 PM
Wonderfully Chopinesque, as always (do you get tired of hearing this?), and maybe a touch Gottschalk thrown in there too! Given your affinity for this style, I wonder if you also play Chopin's music, and if so, what?

Your ability to compose at a high level and with such facility impresses the heck out of me!

Hi CC &mdash 06/06/07 - 01:13:33 AM
long time no see! Chopin is one of my favorites and I have always loved his waltzes. Have several versions, including A.Rubinstein and V.Horowitz. My Dad had an old LP I used to play again and again when I was a child. I have played several of his waltzes and nocturnes, although it has been a while and my hands are a little rusty. Thank you for your comments.

This is a beautiful piece- &mdash 06/05/07 - 10:14:18 PM
Although it seems a bit fast to waltz too, that is almost irrelevant, as it is so beautiful to listen to. This seems more a romantic ballet. It's so light and quick. The sound you have with the Ivory is really marvelous. Many fine pianists I know of have saved up for this particular set of software instruments, and it is always something they mention as an important part of making their sound even better.
I'll stop writing now, and listen again.

Hi Kristy &mdash 06/06/07 - 01:21:29 AM
Paul Page first told me about Ivory. I thought the price was a little steep but found a really good deal at the guitar center and after playing it, I realize it's a bargain.I am curious how most musicians here at MJ play their keyboard (headphones or speakers?). I use my Westone UM2 earphones to listen to it, because my home tends to get quite noisy at times. My youngest son may be practicing violin and my daughter either piano or the flute, sometimes all at the same time. Add that to the TV and my racketing keyboard noise and my home can be quite noisy. But, I love it!

You play with such ease and freedom. &mdash 06/06/07 - 04:17:47 PM
Of course after many years of hard practice but it has paid off beautifully. Your music just flows with similar ease. Lovely piece Enrique.
Best,
Charlie

Hi Bow! &mdash 06/08/07 - 12:53:27 AM
I just wish I had more time in my hands. My real work keeps me so occupied that I have precious little time to play and listen.....may be when I retire.....like 20 yrs from now....

Dancing... &mdash 06/18/07 - 12:11:33 AM
...is all relative. You do a fine job with your fingers. This is a charming little number that I wish would have gone on a bit longer, perhaps with a fully-developed "B" section and then a reprise. Nevertheless, it is certainly well crafted and a unique little gem just as it is. ... Someone else mentioned a little slower tempo. I feel that, too. You have such nice turns and such that I'd like a moment longer to savor them. Don't clip off the ending. Let it ring. (I have the same tendency and it is hard to fight it... a small thing that makes a lot of difference in the final product, I have found.) The Chopinesque feel in all of your work is something to be proud of. You have figured out a way to make it work well for you and the results are always really satisfying. I'm glad you've discovered that $300 is a small price to pay for what Ivory delivers in digital sound. It's not perfect, but it beats the heck out of most of the competition. I suspect that in 5 years we'll hear some REALLY amazing digital pianos. Now, won't THAT be a kick. Take care.
Paul
