Description:
A slow(ish) accoustic song with an edge. Just when you've got everything sorted, and you've got no more furniture to move around, it's probably time to move on! Be like the pioneers of days gone by and go and discover something new!

Lyrics:
Rip It Up
(by Phil Dolby ©2007)

Take a pen and draw a line
Mark it out then subdivide
And when everything around you
Is all perfectly designed
Rip it up and start again

Use a map so you can find
All the places you reside
And when everyone decides
That it’s the blind leading the blind
Rip it up and start again

He took his readings from the wrong side of the sun
He hadn’t noticed that the transit had begun
And when the ink on all his paper starts to run
And all his data’s not backed up
Rip it up and start again
Rip it up and start again

Fast forward or rewind
Choose your place in space and time
And then calculate the angle
Where the planets all align
And leave your mark upon the land
Leave your mark upon the land
Rip it up and start again

Good tune &mdash 06/03/07 - 03:18:58 PM
Really enjoyed this tune. Good lyrics and subject matter. Very philosophical and could be projected over alot of different circumstances in life. Liked your voice and the counter melodies you threw in there. It all gels nicely.

Well-structured song. Impressed me with the lyrics. Also, I enjoyed the musical break. You did everything very-well. This was the first time I heard something of yours and have to tell you that I'm a fan.
Bravo

This is a great song... I really enjoyed this. Great angst in your lyrics countered perfectly by a light and casual melody...

Great &mdash 06/18/07 - 02:10:37 AM
I like this song a lot. It follows a great theme. The drums go perfectly with the song. The side stick in the beginning is really cool and I think the mood of the song would be more together if it continued

Great professional mix. I mean really crisp and clear. Nice distortion on the vocals in the chorus. I like the unusual topic and take on the lyrics. The horns are sharp and well placed. I like how you get in and out, make your point and move on. Nothing lasts too long or is belabored. Really fine cut.

Plus, I like your name....but then I would.

Thanks... &mdash 07/11/07 - 05:03:32 AM
...Phil! I really appreciate your comments. This was my first recording with GB back in October last year, although this is the 3rd mix. The vocals were done straight into the condensor mic on the laptop - and I couldn't believe the quality - amazing really. The horns came about just through mucking about and trying to create some harmony - I'd love to get a proper brass section to play the parts one day!

Gonna take a bit of time to listen to your stuff - there's so much on this site I don't think I'll ever catch up! Thanks again.

This is great - lovely production, really well put together and catchy as hell. Taken a DL thanks!

Wavertree eh? Our paths may have crossed on the High Street perhaps? My M in law lives in Wavertree.

Digressions. Top tune. :-)

First off, &mdash 07/05/08 - 08:15:50 PM
I really love this song. It has everything I like...(including, I think, a drum beat that I've used myself)..

I love the lyrics, and I love the melody. I like the guitar work, and I think the vocal is perfectly inflected, perfectly delivered for the lyrical burden...

I am gratefully downloading this, and I'm off to check out some others...

I'm VERY sorry that I'm just catching on to your music, Phil, but I'm glad that I am...

Ed
