Where's the punchline &mdash 06/03/07 - 12:21:00 PM
Hey Willie - i always think of your more 'humourous' songs, so this came as a shock, but how nice to hear thi s'side' of you. Beautifully played, and a lovely live feel. I don't know if this wants vocals or not - it's great as it is. Great image, and a very specific title - did you write this because of the picture?

Really nice work.

Thanks guys, &mdash 06/03/07 - 01:51:39 PM
I was working around some lyrics for it, and decided against it. I was also working on a second guitar with a counter melody, which I haven't ruled out yet. I wanted it fairly singular and simple. I had the idea of the soldier as I played it, I didn't want a sense of dramatic. I suppose this is about simple loss.

very nice &mdash 06/07/07 - 05:03:25 PM
guitar playing, mr wagga.

sweet, simple and very cleanly played. I bet you could work on the eq on this to make the guitar sound a little more substantial....but a small nit.

really enjoyed this piece.

best

Nice melodic picking, almost entrancing in its rhythm. Music to hear in a garden? Nice work. Peace.

Beautifully played... &mdash 06/12/07 - 01:01:35 PM
...and the juxtaposition btwn the music and the picture just hit me like a ton of bricks.

Simple sadness...

Ralph Stanley is playin at the bandshell &mdash 06/22/07 - 09:24:30 PM
tonight and I'm here - but I'm listening to this really beautiful tune picked so gracefully. I'm not missing a thing. This is a wonderful song - and there is beauty and horror and life that flows through music and comforts in death as well. Oh Death... sings Ralph.

The guy in the picture &mdash 09/05/08 - 09:01:59 AM
doesnt seem to be doing too well. By contrast, your picking suggests only something negative by the sparseness of the arrangement, the lack of any clear outbursts of emotion. Are you trying to picture the bleakness of it all?

Your picking is wonderfully clean and subtle. Much enjoyed.
