By way of your post with the best intentions I love it purely for the fact that I can't drive and have done all three to excess.Hitching used to be good but no-one does that round here any more for fear of having a knife to the eyeball (the hitcher) or having a spine spliced (Wolf Creek).Wierd noises in the background - I was listening through little ibook speakers and for a while it sound like mad frogs on a pool fest.Simple straightforward lyrics rich reverberating guitar sound. If you never do the accoustic version,I shouldn't worry - this was enjoyable. On the other hand what would it sound like on accoustic in an empty room? I'll shut up now.Cheers

GUitar
Whats going on in the back ground. To me its such a big contrast between the mellow guitar and bass, but I like that alot. realt good song and great message to!
Doadars Uncle said 901 days ago (June 4th, 2007)
Hey bandit
Great that you stopped! The background is distorted laughter. It could mean two things. Laughing at the message or laughing because of the freedom of choice and green living.

Great vibe
very laid back, and very cool. The lyrics (and the singing) are way cool. Say what you want to say - and why say more? I love it. The guitar is nicely done, awash on the waves of...sound in the background. I like it a lot. Very cool. Peace.

scratch pad
I read your forum about recording and all. I have use some of the mistakes. In some cases I leave them in. Home recording is just a scratch pad for me. I take the songs to a recording studio. This way I just perform, and I dont have to worry about noise's in the house.Dont get me wrong you can get finished product out of home computers. I just cant.

That's a good way of looking at it. I have heard a few exceptional home recording engineers here at MJ. But I know that with my own cobbled system, It is very hit and miss. But I'm happy to be able to produce, at all!

Peace,
Doug

This just goes to show slick production ain't everything! Nice mellow and flowing protest of stupity and greed. Well done man!

Take care!

Minimalist
Doug, I too love the atmosphere here. I'd love a copy of this without the 'laughter' samples. Not that I don't like them -- I like the message you're sending, but the music is beautiful and I find them distracting. Also, the bass is awesome but it clips at some points. Easy fix. This is really a gorgeous, swelling little song.

By the way, did you hear about the gas station owner in Mequon (Milw. suburb) who refused to sell gas the other week? That's my hometown. :-) I was very proud.

Ms C!
Thanks for the suggestions! If I get around to the acoustic version, I might strip it out, clean, maybe even the bass.

I missed that news story. But I do remember you were a Wisconsinite before you got married! I hope all is well with you! Remember, WI always welcomes you!

Peace,
Doug

things change
day to day, we see these things - but it's the long term patterns that really matter - i think perhaps that's that sound i hear way in the back - the sound of change - thesound of changes coming...

so somber is this.

thanks

hey doug - don't think I've ever checked you out (as it were) ... this sure is a cool piece of guitar work, but the vocal ... really fragile and heartbreaking - you have a rare tone. Being a structure freak, i'd have liked to have this a bit more grounded I guess, 'cause it has such a cool melody. As it is, this is a wonderful piece of experimentation ... I wish i was brave enough to do this kinda thing, but I get sucked back into verse/ chorus!

A real head-job ... like this a lot.

Hey Steve!
Thanks for the critique! I've tried other pieces with minimal lyrics. Generally I chicken out and add more. Although this is probably a work in progress, I am fairly pleased with the results.

Board the hippie bus
I'm there with you, I just bought a Prius, doing my part, best I can :-) This is really nice, has a very airy feel, well played guitar parts, fragile chords, almost-too-delicate voice (possibly add a phrase or two prior to them to "ask the world to come along with you"?) I really love the flanged crowd noise floating in/out in the background, that was a very cool effect.

Great chilled track
A nice protest song, nothing abrasive, and more likely to sink in.
I too, cannot drive. So I will download this track to make me feel better about that fact.
