Description:
A little commentary on Monet's Garden at Giverny in France, where many people visit to see the inspiration behind his 'Waterlillies' set of paintings and others. People also go to paint their own versions of his paintings and there is certainly a romantic atmosphere about the place ,which I hope I've captured in this evocative little song.
Lyrics:
It's just a garden, a simple garden,
Where the people stop and linger,
And if you've been there, you must have seen there,
Rainbow colours ever changing.
There is something special there,
you can feel it in the air.
It's a little piece of Heaven here on Earth.
So many pictures, so many scenes,
Monet painted in his lifetime.
The lily flowers on mirrored ponds,
All the moods from rain to sunshine,
And the fragrance makes you sigh, As the gentle breeze goes by,
I could swear I heard the sound of Angel's wings.......
I could swear.. I heard the sound.... of Angel's wings.

what a sweet song... what a warm gentle stroking of ones soul :) sounds truly great. i love that accordeon, thats really brilliant. but the most of all i love the last three words of your song. because it them is hidden everything, what all your tune is about. in those last little three words. what a magic... thank you.

So glad you got those intended vibes from it and glad the accordian didn't cloy too much. I wanted a feeling of 'Bitter Sweet' with the violin too and hoping it might leave a lump (of the nicest kind) in the throat LOL, M

Wow! Vivre le France (spelling?) &mdash 06/03/07 - 09:06:23 AM
I love the french accordians! great lyrics and singing, I enjoyed my trip across most of France yet didn't make it to Giverny! (and I love Monet too)
You have a quiet lullaby quality to your voice, it has the power to heal wounds my friend! this submission really stands out.
excelllent song! [ Reply to This ]
Hi Tom, &mdash 06/03/07 - 01:20:55 PM
Thank you for your kind comments and strange you should say about the healing (but that's for another day LOL). I too love the French accordian sound and I also love the French singing voice with it's fast vibrato. I always wanted a vibrato like that and when I was young it was quite fast, but with age like everything else, it's slowed down LOL. I also love Monet and the impressionists. I paint too, hence my choice of title and theme, regards M [ Reply to This ]

This is a lovely arrangement beutifully written. I too loved the accordian and it works really well coupled with the violin. Nice choir effect too. Thank you.

You have succeeded once again in capturing a distinctive mood and portraying it with style. I particularly like when the violin comes in - it adds a nice, romantic touch. Sounds like a place i would like to visit. Thanks for sharing. Nice work. Peace. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks again Dajama &mdash 06/03/07 - 06:21:46 PM
for those comments. I think this was the most evocative so far regarding mood and I'm sure you would love it there. It's lovely and somewhat haunting (in a romantic way), M

Flavorful.... &mdash 06/03/07 - 05:55:58 PM
And something special about this piece. Has a flavor of songs written a long time ago. It's beauty is in it's simplicity. I believe you have succeeded in painting your own picture capturing the images as spoken of in your description.
Your choice of instrument with your voice, almost reminds me of something that would be played as background, live, during a silent movie performance in a theatre.
Well done. [ Reply to This ]
Hi, Damiengh &mdash 06/03/07 - 06:31:10 PM
I'm very pleased with your comments as the things you say were in my intentions as I wrote it. There is another verse, but i thought it best not to add that as well. because of (as you say) the simplicity of the song.
I think another verse would have sounded too repetitious as I wanted it to be a kind of vignette of the place and it's history, Thank you, M

That's really appreciated. Strangely enough the simplest of my songs so far, was the most painstaking to write the lyrics for LOL. You should have seen the amount of pages, I scribbled words on and dicarded, M

ummm no more drugs for you. (just kidding) this song needs a place. and when i say a place......i mean it needs to be in everyones ears. we are talking cash mixed with sid here. and when i say sid and cash.. i'm not talking about money and some guy from pink floyd.

Lovely &mdash 09/02/07 - 05:15:09 AM
What a lovely song. I'm a fan of Monet, which is what attracted me to the title and I wasn't dissapointed. I found you from reading a forum thread where you mentioned Ella Fitzgerald as your favorite singer. She's mine, too, and many of my songs are in the jazz standard tradition because of my admiration for her. But this song, with its lovely French accordian and sweet temperament made me very happy. It's great that tastes are such we can step outside our genres and appreciate music for the joy it is. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks, &mdash 09/10/07 - 06:19:07 AM
so much Joanna (I used to sing that Walker Bros' song and love the name) Glad you liked this. It's not really my Genre either, but what is? LOL .I swap and change all the time. I love Ella and I used to sing with a jazz pianist at one time in the 70's and loved it. Syncopation is the thing. cheers M

Hi again Paddler &mdash 10/18/07 - 05:59:06 PM
Thank you for calling in on so many of my songs; it's really flattering with you being such a good musician. I'm sure you could sing this better than myself as I'd only just started to sing again after many years of non-singing and you know what they say... "use it or loose it", well I almost lost it. My voice had deteriorated tremendously over a five to ten year period of abstinence. Feel free to have a bash at this song if you like, thanks again M [ Reply to This ]
