Description:
I have become aware that some people sometimes use some of my music for purposes of peace and relaxation. This makes me very happy because knowing I can do something useful to the world is a blessing. And the harmony commodity is in such a short supply, even in my not so crowded part of the world.

The piece wasn't originally intended to be useful music. It was rather an improvisation that could have become anything. But after ending it, I found that a loved one, who had been beside me listening, had fallen asleep. So there is proof that it really works. Sleep warning is issued. Use only after securing proper precautionary measures. Don't use while driving.

Hardware:
Piezo miked Seagull acoustic guitar lined through a
Yamaha AG Stomp into a
PreSonus Forebox and into a
BowerBook G4

Software:
Logic Express
OS X

Thanks for the warning, but... &mdash 06/04/07 - 12:54:53 PM
It's calming, peacefull, soothing, etc., but for me it's still an active listening experience... It kept me engaged fully the whole time.

For a truly sleep-inducing experience, you ought to try listening to one of my lectures one day! I sometimes have to wake people at the end of term to tell them that 13 weeks have gone by, and the term is now over.

As always, even when it's quiet, you play with soul and passion.

I don't need any help falling asleep - I can do that standing up, sitting at work or even mid-sentence. This however had me captivated. It's a beautiful piece - I enjoyed it very much indeed (although perhaps I better not put it on a compilation for the car)!

Thank you.

Johannes, your heart comes through in all your music, which is a wonderful gift. Thank you for creating beauty like this and giving it to us here.

Like Clark, I do not let this piece drift into the background - instead, I listen to every note, every nuance, every shift of mood. There is a sweet reward in doing so.

Beautiful work, as always.

How beautiful is this? &mdash 06/04/07 - 09:42:46 PM
I love the melody, and the playing is exquisite - great tone and touch. You have great rhythm, even in such a slow, meditative piece. Sleep? Maybe. But I think I'll be adding this to my morning playlist. I can't think of a better way to start the day. Nice work. Thanks for sharing. Peace.

Love the &mdash 06/05/07 - 11:34:00 AM
ringing feel of the recording. Love how your getting a very nice sound from the PreSonus Firebox. Nice rhythm feel with finger-picking. And that can be so effective when the recording is superb which it is.

Nice ideas which really grow on me almost halfway. Nice sustain on many of your ending chord sustains. Like the russian-ragtime-feel after halfway.

Nice whole tune and thanks for sharing such a delicate and sweet one to-boot!. Like the speed up right before the end. What I call kind of a russian dance feel. But it is the best word I can come up:)

Nice variations and then the slow down at the end whch kind of sums up the whole tune, kind of reminiscing of what has been done.Nice and sweet.

Way to go!

Some people &mdash 06/05/07 - 01:33:05 PM
Some people don't need any backup, Some people don't need a vocalist, Some people have talent, Some people just need inspiration and a little bit of time to express. Yeah I'm talking 'bout you... Thanks for sharing.

Yes &mdash 06/05/07 - 06:20:36 PM
If you have internal pickup microphones in your Seagull; then yes. And if you fiddle enough with all the settings. Here is a photo:

You already know... &mdash 06/05/07 - 08:55:30 PM
...that I love your improvisations...

This sounds like a composition, it's so 'complete'...it takes a journey...it doesn't just sit in one place and cycle...

This is also a further change to check out the AG Stomp with a piezo pick-up, instead of the nylon string guitar...Thank you for that... You are getting a very full, wide, stereo image of the guitar, with real depth...

The only 'flaw' in that regard is that sometimes the piezo responds badly to your thumps on the face of the guitar, just a little bit... Every other aspect of this recording is bright, clear, deep, sparkling and realistic to my ears... Nice use of reverb... don't know if that came from the AG Stomp or from Logic Express, but it sounds nice...

This really is gorgeous, Johannes... I'll be playing this one frequently in my office...

Well. Must run. Have to see if eBay has any AG Stomps...

Ed

Yes there is something dissounding there. I will have to experiment some, but I actually believe it is because I had the levels too high while recording. On many places the sound was heavily limited, almost clipped. I think that is what is heard, and yes it is a little disturbing.

Ok I admit &mdash 06/07/07 - 12:14:48 PM
this was so relaxing it took me three tries to hear it all the way through. But a small disclaimer on that, I had knee surgury yesterday and am still a bit medicated. All that aside it is a beautiful piece of work> thank you for sharing it.
