love that flutey part when the drums drop out for a second. you did a really cool job with this. i envy your technique. [ Reply to This ]

glad you enjoyed it. i was going for an "edgier" sound on this one, exploring new territory.
thanks

I haven't d/l loops yet &mdash 06/05/07 - 03:37:46 AM
This is interesting.
I'll be able to make more sensible comments after I listen to the loops in a couple of weeks.
I guess even though you can upload a song as a LIOLI challenge, there is nothing on the song page - except what a submitter puts in the description or title - that would identify it as a LIOLI challenge song. [ Reply to This ]

i guess i'm kicking the tires, giving it for a spin.
there is a new, hard to miss, section in the song submission form with a checkbox for LIOLI. nice and simple.
but as it is, we're missing the waiting for the deadline excitement of past LIOLIs. [ Reply to This ]
Very Nice. &mdash 06/05/07 - 02:53:36 PM
I like edgy. The different elements are intriguing and work well together. Your music is always surprising. None of that "one trick pony" deja vu kinda thing. Do you know about the results of LIOLI #4 yet? [ Reply to This ]
. &mdash 06/05/07 - 07:11:37 PM
as far as i know, LIOLI #4 is a done deal - we all posted our songs, gave them a listen, thought about it, left some comments, and moved on. that's kinda all there is to it. there's no prizes, or choosing the best or anything like that - it's a challenge, not a contest after all...
i am hoping to hear that stooey has completed the podcast - that'll give me a good excuse to listen to the whole set all over again, with some of stooey's commentary to boot! put a little perspective on it. [ Reply to This ]

Interesting &mdash 06/05/07 - 03:38:29 PM
I'm guessing this is using the flutey loop that they decided on yesterday - I am completely unfamiliar with LIOLI so I'm going to have to go and read up about it.I've always assumed it was exclusive to Garageband users but I will find out.Very interesting piece, the flute almost sounds like a voice in the middle - unusual and original! i hope you decide to get involved with the LIOLI challenges. it's in a bit of transition right now, migrating from an informal gathering into a more site-supported event, so it might be a bit different than before, but i hope we can guide this new incarnation into the same spirit as the original challenges.
i view this as something like the Boy Scouts' Pine Derby - except there's no races, no competition whatsoever. you show up with your car, roll it down the track, and show it off to those who would best appreciate it.
my apologies - i'm ranting about LIOLI. anyway...
yes, it's the flute loop, with various things done to it. i also used a few of the other loops they provided and several things from GarageBand and JamPacks. there are voice synths in there - it's not all the flute loop.
i was also partially goofing on "the new" LIOLI here. [ Reply to This ]
crunchy &mdash 06/05/07 - 08:25:21 PM
I like the change in the middle throws you off. Then its back to industrial crunch. Enjoyed this one [ Reply to This ]

cool job &mdash 06/06/07 - 07:31:30 AM
Great job. I was thinking of posting some of my loopy adventures. And you give me some inspiration to do so.
Thanks for that and very nice mix. Trippy.

this song is off somewhere between here and there - the new one and the old one.
look what happened to New Amsterdam - it started out small and innocent, and became the biggest city in the world... it could happen here to MJ too. maybe you and i are merely early settlers. Broadway / LIOLI?
thanks

clever &mdash 06/07/07 - 02:26:56 PM
I really like the part where the voices and the flute blend together, and get reconciled with the tense beat. [ Reply to This ]
. &mdash 06/07/07 - 04:34:39 PM
i liked the contrast of the flute+voices vs. the crunchy guitar+beat. the voices were a way to set up the chords for the flute without resorting to something like an organ sound
near the end, the flute reappears processed like a guitar, to try to join the two things together

Guess I missed this way back when - &mdash 06/30/07 - 03:06:54 PM
But if all goes as planned we'll all have some new traffic soon. Great use of the loops. I basically did the same thing and made my song the day the loops were posted - with a lot less fuss than my usual offerings. You got some good mileage out of the package - and I lile how you broke it up a bit. [ Reply to This ]

thanks for droppin by
i had fun on this one - it was a mix of angst and "let's see what we can do with this loop"
it ended up being featured as background on a following tune "loosed" ... i guess that means i liked it myself.

yes edgy and out there... &mdash 07/01/07 - 01:34:36 PM

the Beathive loops were an inspiration, especially the drums.

too cool &mdash 07/01/07 - 05:00:33 PM
i felt like i was in some futuristic robotized factory, then it was break time and back to work .. very creative smokey ! [ Reply to This ]

maybe the robot factory impression comes from that bass organ/drum thing that's playing on the backbeat?

Transformers Building A Disco &mdash 07/02/07 - 07:00:11 AM
More than meets the eyes... those 'bots want to dance!
I started seeing all these Transformer robots turning into construction machines (hard hats and lunch boxes included) with working noises, lumber being cut, etc, building a huge disco on Cybertron. Then, when everything's essentially in place and working (but not anywhere near finished yet) the Transformers reconvert to robots and begin dancing to music. Satisfied that their new disco works fine, they all turn back into machines and tools and go back to work.
Another amazing, creative and unexpected gem. How do you do this on a regular basis?

i only had the vague idea of building a city from the ground up: New Amsterdam.
