Thanks dude. &mdash 06/08/07 - 07:57:35 PM
Yea, any comparison to those guys is flattering. Im not that fond of what they play on country stations nowdays. Its over produced ,and too comercial. It doesn't strike me like the old stuff did. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate the comment.

Hey man, I like your sound--and I like this tune. This one is going on one of my "taking a couple hour road trip alone to get away from it all and contemplate life" mixed CDs. You know the ones I'm talking about?

Thanks for the song.

Yea &mdash 06/11/07 - 12:30:40 AM
I know exactly what your talking about. Bugs on the windshield smell of wet grass in the air. Its cool to think that one of my songs might accompany that sensory experience. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it. Regards

sooo &mdash 06/08/07 - 09:07:00 PM
nice. i love this. the piano is nice and understated, the tele in the background is a nice touch, and of course as always the vocals and melodies are warm, raggedy and just what i want to hear. really love your voice in this one. i could see tom waits doing this one; it's a really good song.

Two words &mdash 06/11/07 - 12:44:26 AM
two words that are music to me...Tom Waits..... I'm sure his trash can is loaded with stuff superior to any thing I've done, but Its awfully nice to mention his name in association with one of my tunes. btw thanks for the tip on m. ward, I like what I've heard so far. Regards

Thanks &mdash 06/11/07 - 12:58:07 AM
Thanks man. I've tried putting the vocals more up front on other stuff, but people tend to like my voice better when they can't hear it so well. Thanks for stoppin in. Regards

Still a great song &mdash 06/12/07 - 03:25:04 PM
This is still a strong song with great hooks and wonderful instrumentation and playing. Just the perfect touch for the subject matter...and I still think the line "fame it can't show me the truth" is fabulous. There is a real Jimmy Buffet feel to this whole song ... and that's good. It still retains its originality however. BTW your voice is good and there is no need to hide it but you may not have quite found the microphone and effects setttings that really make your voice shine yet. This mix is good and the voice blends pretty well with the overall mix but I might have chosen a less harsh reverb effect or perhaps less of the reverb. However that is a matter of taste and the music is YOURS not mine.

Hey man &mdash 06/12/07 - 06:06:26 PM
I know exactly what you mean. I really tried to take to heart every thing you mentioned last time. However this is the same recording, because I was too lazy to re-record it. The original tracks have a really hollow sound(due to bad mic tecnique or a bad room or whatever) The reverb somewhat disguised that and made the vocals fit with the intruments better, to my ear. Its hard to work miricles when the original recording isn't so hot. Thanks for stopping by. Regards

Solid tune - a classic &mdash 06/23/07 - 09:56:57 AM
Great song. I got robbed in Duluth once. Never went back. I love country waltzes too. Excellent writing.

Thanks &mdash 06/26/07 - 11:17:48 AM
I was using the town of Duluth as a symbol of a "simple life" thats how I imagined it to be, I've never been there. I know Robert Zimmerman was born there. Sorry to hear your experience in duluth was kinda complicated. Thanks for the kind words. Regards

cool song &mdash 08/11/07 - 03:45:33 PM
i love your voice. the song is great, too. lots of breathing room here and it suits the song. its easy to overdo an arrangement and your restraint is admirable! downloaded and saved. I must listen to your other stuff. I like your collaboration with michael2, also.

well done!

arraingement? &mdash 08/13/07 - 11:20:37 AM
"all together now" is my motto. I almost always overdo it. I know that, but some how I just can't help my self...... and btw Michael2 is the best. He kinda has a "I don't give a sh%#" attitude and I feel that is condusive to creativity. He's not afraid to be human. Im pretty inspired by his music and him. Thanks for the listen and comment. Regards

Like it instantly....and right through....every aspect. JUST the type of stuff I listen too when drunk!!!! And it is a good feeling....and, believe me, a compliment.

An' I'm sober right now!

Very nice work Mathew &mdash 09/28/07 - 11:58:44 PM
I love the feel of this song. It just seems to flow gracefully from moment to moment. It's a great song with a lot of potential.

I listened to it on a set of AKG K240 studio headphones and I noticed several things I thing would help it be even better.

Bring the vocal up in the mix 2 or 3db so it stands out and demands the attention of the listener.

You have some exceptional guitar work on this piece and the harmonica sounds great. The only thing is the guitars are sometimes covering up the vocal and harmony tracks. In a song like this that's the best way to lose your audience. Now it may be that bringing up the vocal will fix that, but if it doesn't then some minor tweaking of the rhythm and lead track will fix it.

Before you take my advice keep in mind that I'm a little hard of hearing and was wearing a hearing aide so you might want to get a second opinion or at the very least listen to it yourself with what I've said in mind and see if I might be right.

All in all a great piece of song writing and beautiful vocal and harmony parts. It deserves the best mix it can get. Please accept my comments in the spirit they are meant. They are offered in friendship Matthew.

Respectfully,

Ed

Hi Ed! &mdash 10/04/07 - 12:27:01 AM
Thanks for the kind words and words of advice. Any tips on mixing are well appreciated. I carefully consider all advice on mixing because I am a green horn in that area. I can only say that pushing back the harmony and mixing the vocal the way I did was a concious decision. ( vocals always sound too loud to me when I listen to stuff on the radio) Of course I'd like my music to be accessable, but I suppose I aim to please my self first. I doudt I'll everhave the time to remix this , because I have too many other irons in the fire. Writing and recording are more fun for me than tweaking levels and such. And my main purpose is to have fun. :) Thanks again, Regards

interesting &mdash 05/15/08 - 05:22:54 PM
This is an interesting song. There's much to be enjoyed and admired. I would have liked an opportunity to study the lyrics as I'm not quite sure where the heart of this song is ... and is it me or is "Sober In Duluth" not mentioned anywhere in the song? I heard a reference to being sober and, of course, heard about Duluth, but not the two in sync. Curious choice of title given that ...

All in all, I really couldn't quite tell what the message was (if in fact there is one) and that left me feeling less enamored of the song than I might otherwise have. Musically, I really enjoyed it.

Good stuff!

Hey Dude. &mdash 05/17/08 - 12:35:27 AM
The line goes like this..."I could have got high on some groovy new potion instead I'm sober in duluth, cuz money and cars can't play my guitars and fame it can't show me the truth".... as I said above the town of duluth is a metaphor for a simple life. Id rather not go deeper into the message, for me personally.. when I study and learn a song too well, It often loses all the mystery....I really appreciate your words. Regards

this a great showcase of talent &mdash 05/18/08 - 12:46:16 AM
i don't know call me crazy but the mix is not perfect but their is a cool vibe in the way it turned out. i like the song the meter in the lyrics is done really well. you really have it down like a pro. i had no problems with catching the meaning. the style is country but the mix and your vocals are something else.... maybe its the absence of an accent.i don't care for country with over exagerrated accents anyway. your vocals are great, real smooth and genuine. i didn't notice you out of key even for a second and i've listened to it a few times. good job. all of my father's family are from duluth and its beautiful up there, at least in the summer when i've visited. this track is smooth it sounds like you really put some time and T>L>C> into it.

Thanks Rusty, I guess, Id call my self alternative/folk, whatever that is.......when I first started posting songs here
I had all the tracks at top dead center, a.m. radio style. Im only slightly less ignorant about mixing now. I appreciate the
comment about the vocals, It means a lot coming from a top notch vocal stylist like your self. Regards
