Description:
Hope, Optimism, Memories, Pillow Talk.

Not much i can really say about this. I pretty much just plugged in and played. The song came about from playing a few chords that are the verse, that i was running through a rotary effect. I liked the sound of that so i ran upstairs (without carrying scissors) and started recording. I decided to make most of the guitars a little woobly.

All effects on the guitars where used in real time with the outboard effects. No synths used.

Lyrics:
Anything

1.
there is a time that is anywhere anyplace
there was a trace of distorted memories
off in a distance we stare at the past

we watched the stars flicker from red to blue
in our own space we believed in anything
we saw our ghosts as they replayed everything

Ch,
i said anytime anywhere
we would have been anything
we always believed in everything

2.
at night the blueish tint in our face
spread out across space and time we dreamed
there are the pictures of minor things

all the momentos are stored away
as years pass they may see the light of day
these are the little pieces from our past

Ch,
i said anytime anywhere
we would have been anything
we always believed in everything

3.
there are traces dissolving to the past
could have been anything if we grew our wings
would have been everything beyond our dreams

present future tense are yesterdays dreams
sometime I'll look forward to those lost days
could have been anything if we had believed

Ch,
i said anytime anywhere
we would have been anything
we always believed in everything

Hi Tom &mdash 06/08/07 - 11:35:32 PM
It took me a bit to get the R.K. connection. finally got through tp my thick skull. the single note lines. arppegios and all. i think it really is the 7th chords used. They are perfect for that type of sound. who knew,

Thanks Tom!

good song, and i like the guitars (i can see the Krieger comparison). Kind of like a Robyn Hitchcock song or maybe Nikki Sudden and the Jacobites. There is some awesome stuff going on in here.

I was considering, before I got all antcy, seeing if you would of done vocals on this. Hopefully some other time.

something i hadn't done before was to double track the verses all the way through. I lucked out a bit that , that i could track them on time. the lyrics and laying done the vocals can by really fast. usually it takes me days to even think about what to write.

Thank for the listen, i appreciate it!

Gotta love those wobbly guitars! Good lyrics. Clean screamin' lead riffs. Amazing tones on that solo. Vintage Vic!

I concur with the R. Kreiger comparison, but I picture him gone "all 80's" in a one-piece silver jump suit as he plays this!

Be well bro!

but i do wrap myself in aluminum foil to reduce radio interference.
Little woobly wobbly weeble guitars wobble but won't fall down. It's quite a few beers for the player to accomplish that.

Thanks Mike.

What a great sound! &mdash 06/08/07 - 10:23:17 PM
You have such a cool, distinctive vocal, and the guitar sounds (and playing) are terrific. Kind of explodes into existence at the beginning - almost a bit too dramatically! The solo is great - excellent sounds, and nice melodic touches. Kind of psychdelic feel to some of those chord changes. Some of those lyrics remind me of a few nights back in the day...Ahem. Anyhoo, very cool stuff...this is going to stay in my head for days. It will certainly go on my current playlist. Nice work. Peace.

I double tracked the verse vocals dry and i lucked out on getting the timing on those. I approached this with mostly single guitar lines. got kind of a spaciness to it and the vibrato effects do give it a bit of that psychedia sound. Was going after a different sound here.

I appreciate your listening to this!

I went the approach of mostly doing single line notes. nice and slow. plus some odd guitar sounds. oddly I found there still ended up a lot of guitar tracks.

Thanks again for the time out to listen.

... I'm running out of things to say. I just posted a song, pleased with the mix, then listened to this and it took the wind straight out of my sails!

Vic - if you ever release an album, there won't be a bad track on it. Agree with Tom - echoes of the Doors here... just makes me love it more.

Yet another corking track. You are so talented!!!

never heard that term before. But I like it! That could be something of a song title. This one came to me in a flight and fury. I think I was just hanging on and most of all just plain lucky that I can create anything at all.

Thanks Steve. Always appreciate you taking some time to listen

i really like the mood on this one.

but the line "we saw our ghosts as they replayed everything" is rather off pitch. and "spread out across space and time we dreamed" is a close second. it almost sounds like you mixed two tracks one with and one without pitch correction?

but, still i like this.

thanks

actually i don't use pitch correction. i never could notice any difference.

Great song lyrics! Enjoy the avatar while it lasts. Smokey says (to save my honor) "it will bring out the loonies on a Tues. afternoon." (Beatles?) I trust his judgement. Back to the me before I met "Quadra" (Hard Rock), and told him to take a hike!

Wow, what a sound palette. I always wonder how you can outdo your last post and yet you manage it each time.

Not sure I understand all the lyrics but a very fine song.

It's very interesting as I hear more songs on here as recognisable styles emerge.

I never know what style you're going to do but I know it will be full of great sounds and you're prepared to push boundaries.

Keep it up brother :-)

I never know where I'm going until I finish. I barely have an idea of what I'm doing next. Usually it starts with a riff or a few chords. At that point sounds fill my head. if I'm lucky they come out as I hear them. Spontanious mostly.

Thanks Dick for taking the time to give it a listen.

I used about every modulation effect except tremolo. gives kind of a odd intensity. with the single lines. chords were kept to a minimum. Funny thing is It still came out with quite a few guitar tracks going on.

Thanks again Peter. I really liked your new song.

Great sound/s &mdash 06/10/07 - 05:49:24 PM
Lennonesque - a very good thing - and some tinges from elsewhere that (again) I can't place. Like the wobbly bits and the vocals are up to your usual high standard - you have a distinctive voice which works really well. This is a really good song - everything falls together well and the production works brilliantly. Guitar parts are (as Thor pointed out) perfectly placed and timed.
Bloody excellent!

i can't place it either. Tom W. says he hears a Robbie Kreiger guitar. I'm thinking maybe theres a little of something from all the musical influences that we all grew up with. Of course I mostly listened to the odd stuff.

Thanks again Neil for taking the time to hear the woobly stuff

Holy Moly Vic - seems like you just &mdash 06/10/07 - 07:06:02 PM
took the top off your head and poured in some psychedelic goo and let it run through your fingertips. Where can I get some of that goo? This is a pretty "out there" track and I like that. Nice guitar work needless to say - but the lyrics and vox are pretty damn cool too. I like how you're experimenting with structure these days. Could LIOLI have bent your frame?

[ Reply to This ]
Thanks Bud &mdash 06/10/07 - 09:55:35 PM
i wish i had a barrel of psychedelic goo. I only had the verse chords that had a rotary effect. then i though i'ld make most of the other guitars woobly as well. All the guitars tracks I had done in a few hours.

I'm thinking production over everything else. Or i hear it in my psychedelic goo (i dig that term) head first.

Painting With A Guitar &mdash 06/11/07 - 07:30:14 AM
I love your guitar work! There are such varied colours and textures, so many things to discover and discern that the only parallel I can think of is a painting by a master.

But a song isn't just the guitars, good as they may be. Your writing has that certain, hard-to-define consistent strength that isn't defined by a particular sound but is there nonetheless.

Excellent work.

Thanks Rik &mdash 06/11/07 - 09:08:25 PM
I kept the arrangement a bit sparse so all the pieces would be a bit more pronounced. But it still took quite a few tracks. Theres also alot of sounds you can create on guitar. i was lucky to squeeze some of those in as well.

Thanks again Rik. Also, I'm looking forward to your remake of your goldy oldie!

is one, if not my favorite of your paintings.

I got lucky on the music of this one. i more or less went by instinct. with only the thought of getting as many modulation effects in. And got away without using the tremolo effect. I'll save that and do a all tremolo song some day.

Plan Vic From Outer Space! &mdash 06/11/07 - 09:22:17 PM
As brought to your local MacJams by Ed Wood, Bela Lugosi and Joe Meek!

Actually, I just bought a bunch of vintage McCartney, and he got these same sorts of transistorized-distortion tones, putting his guitars and bass straight into the mixing desk and overloading the heck out of 'em at times...

I think you are at that point where you owe it to your fan base to not only list the equipment used, but list the presets, especially on the digitech boards... Or have them published in Guitar magazine...

Inquiring minds want to know....

Plan 9-23 &mdash 06/11/07 - 09:50:49 PM
thats how I list my songs before i have a name for them. really.

Funny that you mention early McCartney. A new song i just started on is more in that vain. unless i twist it all up.

The chorded guitars i used a leslie rotory effect on both. a couple other guitars use vibrato, which is like a detune effect, that goes through the expression pedal that i can adjust the intensity or speed in real time. another goes through a sped up flanger. then theres some more with infinite repeat on the delays.

It made for a wobbly guitar world. But i would advise not to listen to it at sea in rolling waves.

Thanks Ed.

To get the volume up, add the limiter plug-in to the master track. it needs to be the last inserted plug-in. this will raise the level and will keep everything from going into the red the master track output. It doesn't take much to boost it. if you raise it to far it will sound harsh.
