Description:
This is my version of OneSweetWorld's "Psycho." She provided the a cappella vocals and I built the music around it. I love doing this, by the way, it's like doing a puzzle and your only clue is her vocals. A very special thanks to Linda for the inspiration and input.

Lyrics:
I bet that you're uneasy right now...
Did your world turn upside down?
Cuz my world did too,
Did you notice?
Cuz my world crashed too,
Did you care?

very well done Sergio/Linda. This can't be easy Sergio.. this approach, going backwards .. excellent choice of voices/instruments .. love the way you create/keep just the right amount of space .. and let things ring out ..

one nit .. I liked the idea of the beat coming in and
pickin' things up .. but, really the singing would need
to be redone there IMO to feed off that and be a little
more bouncier .. sounds a bit odd it doesn't .. an
effect of this approach.

The singing is great, love those drawn out sliding notes .. gives it an older melody twinge which is a
sweet constrast to the modern backing = fresh and
interesting- catchy too. Great mix too.

Kudos to you both - and oh, Linda .. I think you need
to change a lightbulb. ;o)

Wow,... &mdash 06/16/07 - 07:39:19 PM
What an awesome piece, really, this is exquisite art. Awesome bass, words, and expresionistic construction with with them. Then the Zamba coming in, really nice. (It is a Zamba? Beautiful either way!!!)

Samba! &mdash 06/17/07 - 12:42:04 AM
Ian! Thanks for listening and commenting. Yes, it definitely has that samba rhythm, a little bit of "Oye Como Va." What great observation. It's always a pleasure working with a great vocalist like Linda.

great jazz feel!! Not a bad bass sound. vocals round it out.

thanks! &mdash 06/18/07 - 06:51:01 AM
Yeah, when I heard the vocals, I immediately thought of a walking bass line. I really wanted it to swing, but that wasn't working with the vocal. I tried to make it as jazzy as I could and still a bit electro-feeling.

urban soliloquy &mdash 06/18/07 - 06:09:03 PM
Such a sweet young voice expressing the hurt. The hurt. Is she now streetwise and protected from further impact? Or will her world crash again?

Somewhat enigmatic...which is just fine.

Nice wraparound job!

My only disappointment is the lack of additional lyrics which might help to complete the story, the mystery, the drama. Harmonies could be introduced to help build the vocals, relieving repetition.

enigmatic &mdash 06/22/07 - 08:34:08 AM
Thanks for such lovely comments. At first I thought the sparsity of the words would make for a nice, open and elegant statement. But I can see what you mean. This was a lot of fun to work on, so thanks for sharing your thoughts, it means a lot.

bass &mdash 06/22/07 - 08:36:17 AM
Hi there, thanks for checking it out. The bass is definitely my favorite part, so I really tried to feature it with the vocal from the start. Thanks for your comment!

the song is genius, and the way you pieced the song around an acapella vocal is amazing.

great deal of care &mdash 06/24/07 - 08:30:11 AM
Hi and thanks for the nice comment. This is the second time I work with one of Linda´s a cappella songs and I absolutely love it. She is very talented and soulful, and that is always an inspiration when putting music around her vocals.

Aw bugger - i wish i hadn't listened to this, as i'm working on a version too, and now i feel completely demoralised!!!!! This is great guys - trippy and spooky, really atmospheric. oddly enough, i went for a double bass as well ... must be something about Linda's voice.

Really cool version, I may just throw the towel in!!

hey &mdash 06/24/07 - 08:33:12 AM
Steve! Please, do not throw the towel in! I´d love to hear your treatment of Linda´s song, I know it´s going to totally rock. That´s so interesting we both were drawn to the double bass sound for this. It just screamed jazz lounge to me. Thanks for such kind comments. Cheers, -Sergio.

Love this one &mdash 06/26/07 - 07:09:46 AM
This is pretty cool but me personally don't like too much the "dance" beat. I think it would be funny to try an experimental beat full of syncopation and with strange cold sounds: the warm bass is too "easy". Why don't u try? You definatly have the talent to do that. I'm curious!!! Anyway this work is very very very very good. Also: LInda's voice is just GREAT! Congratilation to both.
