Description:
The back up singer is a czech singer Ivana B. By the way this is an old Pro-Tools demo I did a couple of years ago and thought it was a good song. Question: Should I do a new version and should I add another part? What do you think? Would very much appreciate any comments.

Love the lyrical imagery and the vocal is great. Something about it reminds me of 80s Manchester pop. Short and snappy, melodic and catchy. Are there two vocalists, or is that you? Very nice work as always. Peace.

The back up singer is Ivana B., a Czech singer. Think she did a nice job.
This was a Pro-Tools version. Do you think I should re-do it?

yes. At least, I would redo it if I were you. It's always a toss-up between gaining a better recording, and risking the loss of the original magic. But when the song is strong, it's going to sparkle either way, and this is a good song. Peace.

neat straight forward rock tune. has a touch of some lennon style to it.
really enjoyed it L.L.

Thanks for listening.

But, if you do don't think of it as redoing the song. but give it something a little different. try to duplicate something as it stands can loose some of the original energy.
I've redone a few older songs that i was hesitant to jump back in but they came out a whole lot better with some variation to the originals

now where's those car keys?

enjoying it - A great indie rock tune with good lyrics - I was trying to work out how many vocalists (my computer speakers ain't that good). Another one to download and listen to in the car. Thanks for sharing.

I like it as it is.

Hi there! This is a great song, if I were you, I would redo it. There isn't anything wrong with it as is, but it would be nice to update it a little (I'm thinking about the drums, especially). The voices sound great.
lavalamp
I did not produce this and the drums were done with a drum machine, Dr. Rythym.
This sounds good as is man, but could be improved slightly. For example, in the "I am...I am..." sections Ivana seems louder than you. You could balance the volume more. And I agree that the drums need to be updated. The playing is great but they sound weak and thin in the mix.
Bit overall this is quite good. Nice jangly feel. If you re-do it please don't OVER-do it. Don't want to risk the loss of that "original magic" dajama spoke of.
Be well!

Thanks for the advice and the time you took listening. I hated the drums and do not have the master, so I think I´ll do it again in a while.
Thanks again.

this very much. if you have the original tracks still, i would probably use some different drums, and maybe take down the vocal reverb a bit and lower Ivana's vocals a hair. But it's a great song, and if you hadn't have asked about re-doing it, i would be impressed by the song regardless.

while i'm at it, maybe a sloppy neil young-ish guitar over the intro (ala bettie servert or teenage fan club), and lightly sprinkled throughout.
lavalamp
I agree with the sloopy guitar part, it would fit nicely. Also, agree about the leveling. The problem is I don't have the master, or at least it would be a bitch to get, but I can still get Ivana to sing on it.
I'll probably try to do a better version with some intrumental part later.
Thanks for checking it out.

The guitars and drums work for me but I think (having heard more recent vocals from you) that you could probably get a better recording if that's what you want to do. I find that re-doing old songs can be a disappointment sometimes, as they never sound as fresh as when they first came into being. I don't think it needs another part though - it's short and sweet and sounds complete in this format to me. I was living just out of Manchester in 1986, and the sound definitely has a Manc feel about it.

Wasn't too confidant of a singer then. I hate re-doing songs, but I think I'll be able to capture the sound of the original. I think I'll be able to sing it better, too. Think I'm more out-going with the singing. In the band days I was only on back-ups. So, we'll see.

Do a new version! Its a pretty great song! Too bad the production is pretty bad. I think its fine w/o more. If you write something thats AMAZING and perfect, it wouldnt hurt to throw it in, but don't loose sleep over it.
lavalamp
I'll probably re-do it later, when I have time. Thanks for listening.

I vote for a new version too. Add more clarity, edge to the vocals; consider simplifying a tad on the drumming which gets a little busy; and make sure to let the end fade out better. Nice song.
lavalamp
Agree there are a bout a thousand things wrong with this recording, but you could hear the gist and structure of the song. I'll have to redo it the near future and post it again.
Thanks Tobin

This has so much going for it that it deserves another look. Really like it. I'm getting into more accoustic stuff at the moment and this one of the best on here so far.

Thanks for hitting one of my older tracks. This is a song many of my friends think is the best. A lot of the songs I write, I have a female in mind. Not me. I'm really not much of a singer, but I do think I can write.
Thanks,
Adam

A new version . . . sure, but I really like this one. Just a great mix of the elements present. You have skill in all aspects, as an artist, songwriter and a producer. I look forward to hearing and sharing more.
Thanks,

Glad you hit this old one. I always enjoy it when someone hits and comments on an oldie.
Made me feel good.

And I like the lyrics as well. Thanks for sharing,

I'm thinking a nice driving bass line for this, good demo. I can hear some light piano in the arrangement. Can you do this kind of thing anytime ya want? What a gift...
