Description:
Indie pop is more like it (I don't know how to classify my songs) - affectionate nods to McCartney (Happy 65th), Badfinger and other power pop bands past and present.

Lyrics:

oh, the nights we lay alone
content, but on our own
weighted like a stone

oh, they're not so far away
they're close but they won't stay
they're slipping every day

oh, brace us, everyone
oh, chase us in the sun

the race we'd never won
we'd hardly just begun
we placed with everyone

oh, grace us, everyone
oh, embrace us in the sun
but oh, to lay this burden down....

oh, face us, everyone
oh, place us in the sun
oh, to lay this burden down
I know - the day this bird is flown...

the life we'll lead alone
is never quite our own
we're borrowed, tooth and bone

oh, grace us, everyone
oh, place us in the sun
but oh, erase this worried frown
oh, lay this burden down

oh, lay this burden down
oh, lay this burden down
oh, lay this burden down
oh, erase this burden now

I love em :-) What a gift to be able to do this. The midde section with the strings was terrific. Perfect solo (sound and hooks) Carry on!

You are Blessed &mdash 06/17/07 - 05:25:42 PM
I agree with the above you do have a gift. This is masterful, reminds me of McCartney as you say and also of 10cc and Squeeze at their best This really is wonderful stuff. Thank you for allowing me to download.
Cheers Len

Great &mdash 06/17/07 - 05:40:22 PM
and indeed I can hear Badfinger here - but then they sounded very McCartney... Nice strings and guitar solo - Excellent vocals too. Very well done all round. Thanks for sharing.

Brian... &mdash 06/17/07 - 06:03:51 PM
Brian, I have just gone through your back catalogue and downloaded the lot. I am convinced that you are really a megastar incognito. You must at least have once been. Or maybe you are a plant from the plug-in people to buy the mellotron. Please reveal.

What a great gift you have Brian &mdash 06/18/07 - 01:55:10 AM
Your abilities to write, arrange, record and create is quite remarkable.

One thing that sets this tune apart from some of your others is the quality of your vocals and delivery. There was a life all it's own.

How many tunes have you posted over the year? 25-26. That's amazing. And each it's own jewel. Wow.

This is... &mdash 06/20/07 - 11:15:37 PM
...such a well-worked-out pop number: the orchestrations are just right..vocal backups are perfect..and the guitar solo halfway in is superb. Vocals are so natural and, thankfully, in tune. This is a classic and with your own unique stamp. One of the very best things I have heard at MacJams in this genre. Thank you for the great listen.
