Keywords:
Mellow (89)Electric Piano (12)Jazz (386)Simple (34)
Description:
Fun little melody with bass, guitar and drum groove. The e-piano has very little distortion here and is used on the bass track as well. The drums are a rhythm I played in Addictive Drums. What do you think?

A jolly little piece! &mdash 06/25/07 - 08:53:16 AM
Very smooth and a fun listen. This would work well as incidental music in a film or TV show.

Nice sound all round.

Cheers

I can see the star of the show driving down a busy street now...

Thanks for giving this a listen!

Hey Bill &mdash 06/25/07 - 11:54:52 AM
This has a nice roll to it. Sounds like it was fun to put together! I'm not familiar with Addictive Drums. Is that something you type or tap? It sounded very nice, either way!

Cheers,
Doug

Its lots of fun to let the bass and drum loop and then play along on the piano, changing it around a little every time.

At its simplest, the Addictive drums play the same as the GarageBand drum kits. I tapped out the hi-hat and kick drum for this. What it offers is better sounding drums and the tools to modify each drum separately without using multiple drum tracks.

Thanks for listening.

.. &mdash 06/25/07 - 12:40:43 PM
it really has that incidental music thing going on ..
for me at least atypical of little outdoor scenes in
American children shows made in the 70's - not that this
is a bad thing, just what it reminds me of. The drum
job is very good but I'd love to hear this done with
real drummer using brushes .. on hit-hat, snare and
some ride cymbals too - really give that jazz thing ..
and the bass played on an upright bass. Kinda as it
should be. You should ask around - lots of possibilies
here Bill. Great keys as usual, charming happy summer's
day melodies.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Summer is a better time for me, maybe I can get something going on the collab side. The few I've done were a lot of fun!

NIce groove &mdash 06/25/07 - 01:27:23 PM
Reminded me of Ray Manzerak's playing on one of the Doors tunes like Riders on the Storm.(long version) or something like that.

Good groove. Liked a lot of the nuanced idea development.
Would have liked to hear some guitar in it somewhere or just have some other contrasting sounds or sections added. Its like a tease of more to come. Is there?

Like what your doing.

Thanks for the comments. I like Ray Manzerak's work. I worked hard on not making this one too long, sounds like I succeeded. As for adding to it, well that will take time. I do recycle melodic ideas though, so it may reappear in a more ambitious piece later.

very upbeat &mdash 06/25/07 - 05:12:18 PM
i'm thinking the Doors - but not quite sure way, it's more upbeat than most of their tunes. maybe it's the long phrases of eighth notes in the bass and keys?

is that a P1800?

thanks

This is fast for a Doors tune, but the other elements of simple rock/blues are there.

The car is a 1954 Studebaker Starlight Coupe.

Thanks for giving this a listen.

The Studebaker is a cool car!
The addictive drums are Midi, I don't usually feed them fruit loops ;)
Any way, it is good to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

Good call on the '60s. The basic drum rhythm is a faster version of something Donavan used. Thanks for stopping by. Peace.

Good groove! &mdash 07/02/07 - 08:43:44 AM
Instantly captivating. My first association when I heard the beginning was with the music of The Doors; a 'cool' 60's sound. The highlight, of course, is the electric piano playing; very tasteful, very cool, and well-crafted.

If you wanted to take this further, it would definitely help (in my opinion, anyway!) to have a real drummer, or at least a more realistic programmed drum track (this drum track is fine, though; it's just that a real drummer, if good, would add so much more; are there any good drummers at your school?), and get a second solo instrument in there instead of the MIDI guitar (I think that's what it is, anyway). Having a guitar is a fine idea, it's just that it was so repetitive that it was less interesting after a while.

Maybe you could see if anyone wants to do a collaboration with you on this? It might be fun.

Cheers, Clark

I appreciate the sound advice. I think it is time for me to review what I have posted and see where I can add better (more varied) backing tracks. Collaborating might be the most rewarding way to go on this.

hey Bill - what a cool little track, sorry i nearly missed it. It's got a kinda 'Riders on the storm' vibe which I love. Addictive Drums are great, aren't they - great range of sounds and easy to use - they sound ace here. Overall, a lovely little number - nice work!

Yes, it was pretty easy to get good hi hat tone from the Addictive Drums. What is needed is a little more practice and the addition of some well placed accents. Thanks for taking the time to listen in, there was a sudden deluge of good new music the day after I posted this, I'm catching up on some of the new people now.

is what i think. the choice of ep's reminds a lot of early max middleton stuff. just a great celan sound with just the right amount of verb. nice melodic head over some cool changes. nice!

Lovely smooth sound - right up my alley. The bass is great. It's hardly noticeable, but holds everything together really nicely. No time right now - but I will check out the rest of your jamroom at the weekend.

Thanks!

like this type of Jazz sound that lets the mind run riot with visualisations, yet smoothly relaxing. I like the drum beat, which is really a tango beat, don't you think? It works really well. Great playing as always, M

Good to hear from a jazz lover :) I think I need to listen closely to a tango again, but you may be right. The beat I sort of copied it from was a lot slower. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Very catchy &mdash 08/25/07 - 03:34:55 PM
Very catchy, and the piano sound is an excellent choice for this song. Very "Starsky and Hutch."

The guitar chords are well-chosen. Nice addition.

I love this piano sound -- early Wurlitzer, sounds like to me. I used to have one of those, around 1982. It was a very nice keyboard. Only one sound, but you sure could do a lot with it.

This obviously took a lot of planning. Nicely executed.

Yes, the e-piano does work well as a bass-line instrument.

And the car is cool! Looks like an old Plymouth Barracuda, or maybe a Jaguar.

I never played a real Wulitzer, but I do enjoy working with the voice. A lot of good songs I can't name tonight have made use of the Wulitzer sound. Thanks for taking note of the planning, I sometimes just jam, but this time I did "compose" :)

and about the car: I think the Studebaker's of the '50's are the BEST!

Thanks for taking the time to listen, I really do appreciate it.

Smooth &mdash 09/11/07 - 12:33:50 AM
Bill,

This has a great feeling to it. I like the way it keeps moving, like a night drive on a winding county road. I think you should end the song on the last full phrase you give us, because the thing you start saying in the fade out just leaves me hanging--that's my opinion.

I agree with the Doors comments. Nice playing.

Endings are tough, I will think about how it sounds with out the piano in the fade...

Glad you like the song and took the time to comment, you must be pretty busy getting ready to head around the world! Let us know about the trip when you return.

One of those simple and fun jazz pieces that burbles along like a brook in the spring sunshine. Love the left/right parts and the development of your theme. I agree with gregd - this is such a wonderful piece you want to end it just right to match the calibre of the rest of the performance. Maybe a longer fade so that the full phrase can be heard? Great work!!
Thanks,
Doug

You're in pretty good company agreeing with gregd :) Glad you like the theme and took the time to listen so carefully. I think I will begin a review of my catalogue and start putting some of these excellent suggestions to the test.
