Description:
i was going through some of my old comments and songs, and listened to one i wrote for my foster mom. and it made me realize just how much better i've gotten in the last two years. so i thought i would do a comparison and do it a bit more justice. i spent a month or two on the previous recording. this i spent 5 minutes or so on, i didn't plan the rhythem really or anything, but was more an attempt for a comparison to myself. was a quick take but even with the vocal flaws i find the comparison interesting, especially since this was in 5 minutes having to read the words cuz i havent played the song in a year.

Lyrics:
everytime i looked
you were there
you were the family
i never had
when the nights grow cold
when it feels i can't pull through
i just look back and think
im coming home this time
ive been gone for so long
theres nothing to stop me now
as i make my way to you
i was your child
blood never mattered
even when i left home
in your hearts i stayed
when it feels like no one cares
when it seems that nothings there
when it feels ive disappeared
a mothers somewhere
thinking of me, waiting for me
dreaming of me
im coming home this time
ive been gone for so long'
there's nothing to stop me now
as i make my way to you
to you, through the pain
to you, through the cold
im coming home to you
i've been gone for so long
im coming home to you

...listened to the old version. Yes you have come a long way. The vocals are very strong and passionate. Also a very heartfelt and honest song. This really is good stuff. With a song this good and sung so well the technicalities of recording are irrelevant.
Cheers

props to you &mdash 07/02/07 - 07:42:36 AM
Great chord sequence and melodies ('I've been gone so long' is sweeet), and nice vocal - f**k the recording, the emotion is there. Sounds a little like Bright Eyes new stuff, which i love, almost a country-ish feel .
Nice work

thanks. i was listening to bright eyes a lot about a month ago and i'm finding that lately they've been sneaking into my vocal style. ive all the sudden been hit with a wave of confidence and motivation. i am finally starting to relax a bit when i record. i always do more when i do a one take, its singing with out playing guitar at the same time that ussually screws me up. ive been learning if i kind of keep the mic so im not really paying attention to it and out of the way i can sing more like i'm just singing for myself or at a show and not recording.
