Description:
This song sucked more time out of me than any other song I've ever recorded. It's so much fun to perform, but recording it left me clueless everytime. It's just one of those songs that wouldn't rest until it was out.
Lyrics:
Hanging on the wall
Fnely crafted feathers and a ring
Tied and strung together to catch a dream
Once upon a scene
I pulled back on the hammer
The barrel gleaned a forest rife with fear
And bloodied wings
It's time for me to lie and bury all the dead
Scare away the ghosts that travel in my head
There's some that say that we're
Another laughing matter, well damn it all
We're not a laughing matter... Not at all!
Hanging on the wall
A pornographic picture that once was love
A mirror broken image that once was love
It's time for me to lie and bury all the dead
Scare away the ghosts that travel in my head
Now upon the scene
I work with a nail and hammer
My body's clean
A forest full of lumber
And pretty wings

Atop the grand canyon... &mdash 06/30/07 - 01:09:00 PM
...is where I would love to hear this song, the chorus is epic in scope and the lyrics filled with hope, it has instantly effected my mood for the better. I love when your voice hits that tone, a good example is in the chorus, its very subtle but its a trademark of your singing. finely crafted tune and it shows, thanks for a great submission Mr. Bull!

Thank you, Tom!! &mdash 06/30/07 - 01:12:33 PM
Tom - thank you x 1000! i am so not happy with the production of this song, but as i mentioned above, it's been stuck inside for many months. I play it almost every day on the ol' back porch and really enjoy playing it and singing it. But for some reason, recording it was extremely challenging. So, yeah, right now I'm just kind of saturated by it. Maybe in a week I can come back to it with a more positive perspective! hehe
But seriously, Tom. Thank you for such wonderful, supportive words. It really, truly made my day, if not my week!

a good song and seems to me it would be hard to perform with the altered rhythms when you sing. In a way it's like a musical chant and I get the impression it may be therapeutic in some way. There's a lot of feeling there in your voice and the guitar sounds fit in wonderfully with the sense of exorcism of the ghosts. Certainly different. I used to have a 'Dreamcatcher' very like the one in the picture, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
Thank you, Movitz! &mdash 06/30/07 - 03:31:37 PM
I would have to agree. My back porch sits quietly beneath a canopy of green from a very old sugar maple tree. that's where I spend the majority of time playing my guitar, when I can. It is also where I wrote this one many weeks ago. Your assessment of "therapy" is right on. this is a song that can be played in many different styles, generated by mood, so it's easy to jump into.
thank you so much for your thoughtful comments!

I like it! &mdash 06/30/07 - 04:53:52 PM
We've all got a song thats hard to nail down.
I'm not sure what you are hearing in your head. I actually like the intensity here. Solid songwriting and performing as well. The added backup guitar has some cool progressions.

again, knocking your God given talent - ah yes, that dreaded 'restless' song syndrome - glad you took the time to just put it out there for all of us to pick at - that is the only known cure you know -Seriously,once again good stuff all the way around.
Blessings,

Nice &mdash 07/01/07 - 08:11:46 AM
Glad you've managed to get this one recorded - I've got plenty of songs that are stuggling to get past the rough stage at the moment. Production sound pretty good... nice playing too. Thanks for posting - I'm sure if you leave this a week or so you'll appreciate what you've got.
Great post.

Thank you SO much for the support, especially on this one.
i'm kind of annoyed because I went back into this song this morning and reworked some of the levels. i am much happier with the result... but i don't want to lose the valuable feedback you've all left and delete this version. so, perhaps later today i might post up the new one, though it is the exact same song as this one, just better level mixing. ugh.
again, though, your words are both kind and informative... exactly what i could ask for: THANK YOU! [ Reply to This ]
Outstanding &mdash 07/02/07 - 08:41:43 PM
words, and great singing. Your voice is strong and filled with feeling. The lyrics are great - suggestive and memorable without being obvious or cliched. What is it that you don't like about the sound? I think it works really well. Maybe you can tweak it a bit, but in my (very humble) opinion, there's not much you should change about this. This is one of the best I've heard in a long time. Nice work. Peace. [ Reply to This ]
perfect &mdash 07/05/07 - 07:03:23 PM
don't apologize for this at all, there's no need. i love everything about it. i've been thinking about getting a laptop to record on, as I too spend a lot of time out on the porch under a big tree. great job. [ Reply to This ]
