Beautiful music.... &mdash 07/06/07 - 02:09:31 PM
I loved this piece of music. The chord sequence really tweaked my dials.

I could also hear this being played on a harp. It has that 'flow' and 'percussive' nature about it, in my opinion.

Excellent.

Paul.

Thank you Paul. I had no idea what I was going to end up with when I started creating this song and honestly, it was just for fun. Far from being a professional recording, and not claiming to be a talent yet....but I hope to continue experimenting with the notes playing in my head and see where it leads me. I appreciate the nice compliments.

Feeling the journey &mdash 07/07/07 - 01:03:37 PM
Very evocative, haunting. What did you use to record this? (It has more reverb than I usually like, but it seemed to add to the mythic quality of the content. Sometimes limiting the mids on large reverb helps to keep them from stacking up on the faster, louder sections.) Very enjoyable.

Well...funny you should ask. I have no idea. My brother has a small studio in his basement and he left me alone in it one day with a keyboard and the record button on for an hour and a half. This is one of 20 songs that came out of it. I just started making up stuff. It was a magical experience for me. It was not for anyone per say, but just the chance to feel and create the music without interuption. The sound quality leaves alot to be desired but my focus was not on that like it should have been. Anyway, I truly appreciate your kind comments. That means alot coming from someone as talented as you are. Thank you for listening.

Delicate, with purpose &mdash 07/09/07 - 09:29:57 AM
Really nice, with a touch of regret in it. I agree with Tobin that the reverb was a little high, creating a little muddiness, but not quite enough to sour the great playing and composition. The occasional high note you would sometimes repeat, reminded me of a piece by another great Macjammer here, whom you may enjoy (if you've not already bumped into her)... please listen to this song (http://www.macjams.com/song/15115) by MissChaos, for an interesting comparison of your two similar styles. Welcome to Macjams, I look forward to hearing more of your music!

You are too kind... &mdash 07/15/07 - 06:35:28 PM
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am blown away every time someone comments about one of my songs. I guess was fearful of rejection and I am really grateful that you would take the time to listen and comment at all. This has been so much fun for me that I feel like a school girl in a talent show all over again. Thank you for listening!

hi Gail &mdash 07/16/07 - 05:56:59 AM
your playing is very mature and evocative... this has a soundtrack quality, because your playing here has such a storytellers quality to it.. you play with great sensitivity and subtle dyamics... as you shape your tale...

excellent...and welcome to MJ

Thanks Scott! &mdash 07/16/07 - 05:52:50 PM
I appreciate your comments. As you know, I am one of your newest, but biggest fans so I appreciate any comment at all coming from you. You are right about the story teller part. My mind wanders frequently with loving thoughts. We all have a story to tell, it's just getting someone else to take the time to listen that is often the problem. Thanks for taking time, and thank you for welcoming me to MacJams. I am enjoying the ride. :)

Improvised? &mdash 07/20/07 - 09:15:06 AM

reading how you recorded this piece , I'm wondering if it is ?
It's very beautifull , if it's improvised it's even more beautifull :-)

I appreciate the compliments. I cannot read music too well. I took piano lessons as a child but you wouldn't know it. I was too busy to sit still I guess, but now I just make it up as I go. I always hear music, or I should say I "feel" music. I love sitting at the piano and just playing to my heart's desire which is what I was able to do this time. Thank you for listening.

So pretty... &mdash 07/21/07 - 08:37:46 PM
Wistful, yet not sad. There's definitely a story in there somewhere. I'm always amazed when I hear people say they just sat down at the piano and wrote something like this sponrtaneously. Drak sent me over to listen to this, and I'm glad he did. Beautiful!

I am really glad you like the song. I sincerely appreciate your kind words and am glad you listened to Drak's invite and came by. I also visited your site and was pleasantly pleased at what I heard. We have a lot of beliefs in common and it is obvious that we share a love for music. :) Thank you for listening.

Beautifully played... &mdash 09/09/07 - 09:03:22 PM
Played as it is in mostly a high register, this song seems particularly well-suited to a harp. You DO go over the same territory many times here and, to my thinking, I felt like I would like to have heard it move away from its tonal center to explore more of the spectrum of sound and thought. It is, though, like all of your things, extremely well played and precise.

Well summing all the comments from the other 3 into this one final song....Most importantly, I sincerely appreciate you taking the time for my music today. I found it interesting that the song that has the least amount of listen and comments ended up being your favorite out of the 4. :) Paul, I will always be grateful for your encouraging words and the kindness you have shown me. Your opinion is so important to me. Thank you very much!!

Very nice music and recording. Are you recording live or using a software piano (like Ivory or Akoustik)? Your touch makes the piano very expressive. I'll be check out your other songs!!

Thanks

So glad you came by and listened. I appreciate the kind comments. It was recorded on a keyboard with a grand piano sound chosen. There are improvements needed as all of my music continues to be "works in progress". I hope you enjoy the others also. Thanks again for the visit!

Excellent &mdash 10/15/07 - 12:02:35 AM
I wish I could play piano like this. The performance is majestic and self-willed, yet relaxing to my ear. Your passion is tempered by your legato and dynamics.

This is not a criticism of your playing but a criticism of some reverb and delay filters. I often get annoying fuzzy "artifacts" in the far left or right channel. In your recording, the "fuzzies" seem to be most prominent in the first part of the song. Play around with different filters and settings. See if you can get rid of those fuzzy hissy echoes.

Kind of you &mdash 10/15/07 - 03:44:55 PM
Thank you for taking the time out for me. I appreciate your comments and advice. I recorded this at my brothers studio and he turned the record thingy on and left me. He did not realize that his kids had messed with the knobs and adjusted the volume controls all squirrely, more on left and other things, but anyway, no matter...it was recorded all in fun. The real reason I did this is so I could remember what I had played and teach myself the notes, otherwise, I tend to forget. Did you ask for the long version of this story? so sorry.......Thanks again for the compliments. Mucho appreciated!

That is how I describe your pieces. They alter my mood and take me on an emotional journey. I think your playing does that as much as the actual piece.
Thank you for sharing.
