Song Description
Vicki Kierkegaard is into existentialism big time.
Lyrics:
Vicki Kierkegaard
it's 11 o'clock
hi, i'm Vicki
i am your new toy
children gambol in the park
playing catch until the night
they don't know what life will bring
and all i do is sing
people gamble at The Park
playing catch up in the night
they don't know what life will bring
and all i do is sing
let's play

Bill, you always write some original stuff, but this is ... well, creepy, subversive, a little unhinged. The voice on this is wonderfully fake (Hi, i'm Vikki) and synthetic, but authoratative. This is really edgy work, and feels like a panic attack set to music.
Your going to give me nightmares.

Vicki is the default voice on the Mac - so i used the speak for the computer.
i had her say a few ambiguous things here...
thanks

Your artwork made me think of the line:
"Backgammon? Hari-Kari?...T.V.!"...from JA's "Lather,"---an equally demented piece.

Salvadore Dali comes to mind. It's brilliantly Pscyhedelic ( or maybe psycho-delic LOL.... or is that me??). It's a whole new genre and brilliant, M [ Reply to This ]

well, the relationship of humans to computers is a rather surreal affair...

Maybe you should let Fred or maybe even Ralph keep Vicki company...
Good old Vicki... My kids used to make her say all kinds of wacky things in the TexEdit window, then play it to their cousins over the phone. What a riot. but I digress... Very creative and futuristic, like the Electric Grandma on crack. [ Reply to This ]

you touched on part of this song: Macs are incredibly tempting toys to play with. even when it's late in the evening and we ought to be getting to sleep.

love the pianos on this, the rhythm machine sounding drums that come in towards the end and that discordant keyboard line. this is a really great piece. nice job. [ Reply to This ]

Very edgy - and I like the correlations in your lyrics! Existentialism - Yep, explains a lot in this world. :-I Thanks for the link Professor! I learn so much from you. :-) [ Reply to This ]

i don't always have coherent thougths about my songs, but in this case, i have a strong theory....
you get the rosetta
11 o'clock - it's late, you should be going to bed - the 11th hour: at the end, here is what's real.
Vicki - Mac computer - a tempting lady
gambo/gamble - it's all play - kids play catch - adults are always trying to catch up
all i do is sing - in all this observing of the human condition, i'm not doing anything real: just singing/writing songs - Vicki may be sexy, but she doesn't do anything except sing
let's play - it's all play - it's 11, but heck, let's keep working on this song/listening to tunes on MacJams - Vicki might have other things in mind
i too don't know what life will bring...
the chordy lead tonality sounds like that "big chord" when you step into a casino...
other seedy interpretations are entirely your doing
thanks for listening dear heart

Thank you for the Rosetta :-) &mdash 07/09/07 - 10:36:10 AM
I was thinking about all this in the context of "That's Progress" up through "Tempus" - and I really wasn't sure of anything about "Vicki" , but when I understood "Tempus" in different ways (literal / metaphorical) - I started to wonder if I hadn't missed something in the increasing level of edginess in your work. I missed the reference to "Vicki" altogether, because I can only dream of owning a MAC. (I much prefer their operating system!!!) Oh, MacJams!!! Everyone here must have one. :-) I told you, I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes. :-)
What I truly admire about your work, Bill, is that it is complex, multi-leveled (ideas, concepts, references) in so many ways - even the clues in the graphics - you make me think - not just feel - reach higher to become more enlightened. Sure from time to time I totally "Phoenix" interpreting your true intent, but that is how we learn - by not being afraid to make mistakes - by asking questions - by loving the process. :-)
And you're welcome, dear heart, what are old friends for if not to listen till late at night 'cause one or the other just needed to talk.

at the edge of the park, &mdash 07/05/07 - 09:23:36 PM
at night, in the shadows awaits Vicki. Asking "Do you want to play?"
We have a park on the edge of town filled with "new toys" they run on AC or DC. Best to be avoided.
Very intriguing and dark piece where there is no escape.
Excellent Bill. [ Reply to This ]
