Description:
A first take. I was going to re-record this and do more with it but figured it was such a cynical negative song that it wouldn't appeal to a lot of folks anyway. This is just one that I had to get out of my craw, let breathe a little oxygen and then move on.
Lyrics:
First they build them up and then they knock them down Love to see them crawling now on the ground
Only human beings just like you and me
They make mistakes and then we see
Rumors and stories follow them around
Everyone's looking for dirt to be found
Nobody's perfect except for you and me
You take a fall and then I see
That they build them up and then they knock them down
Regrets and second thoughts
Happiness can't be bought
Success evaporates like rain on a summer afternoon
And all the people who are throwing stones
I bet that they live in all glass homes
Someone should investigate them too
And you know that it is true
That they build them up and then they knock them down
Be careful what you say on the way up
They'll turn on you so you better shut up
All those friends have a knife in your back
They'll eat you up just for a snack
First they build you up and then they knock you down

Nice delivery for a first take. Sounds like something I would have heard in a coffee shop back in the mid-60's...yet the subject matter stays surprisingly and wretchedly current! I get so damn tired of this favorite human pasttime. We're like a bunch of screeching baboons sometimes...if not MOST of the time. Time to evolve!!!
Be well bro!
bronco
Thanks Michael. Bunch of screeching babboons are irritating and obnoxious but it is the pack of wolves that send a little cold chill down my spine once in a while.
"...I saw a newborn baby surrounded by wolves..." (Bob Dylan's "Hard Rain Gonna Fall")

This is the kind of down home blues stuff I like...sounds like you are out on the front porch railing at the world with a beaten up heart and guitar!
Great singing
Steve

Thanks Steve. I wish I had a house out in the country that did have a big front porch! My grandad had one on his farmhouse and I have fantasized lots of times that I could go back and play music on it with all my relatives listening. Ah, dreams are so much better than reality!
Slotogenic
You really captured the essence of the blues here. Basic, raw and wonderful. Your voice really suits the material and the lyrics are well written. I really like the line "Success evaporates like rain on a summer afternoon." So true! Nice work.
bronco
Many thanks for listening and I am glad you could appreciate the spirit of the song. Some people think the blues make you feel bad but actually the blues is getting rid of the bad feeling.

plus you have a terrific vocal blues sound. The words really make ya wonder in anything that humans can accomplish that this doesn't hold true. But maybe more so in high level business. Were high level bank officers get big salaries only to get fired soon afterwards.(it happened to a relative of mine). There are plenty of high-level businesses that do this I think.
Again, a great thing I see in your writing is that you seem to hit home on things that bother me as well. Directly and non-directly. It just seems to come out when you upload your writings and let the public see and hear you material.

All my life I have been accused of being negative, sarcastic, etc. Some of it I will admit was on the mark but lot's of times I think people just weren''t ready to accept the truth. It's a good thing they didn't make me an ambassador eh?

first takes are the best though. so far i'm liking it. your voice is cool on this one. some old time blues on this one. be negative all you want.. you aren't the only one in the world so i'm sure some of us will appreciate it's musical quality :)
bronco
I think singing and songwriting are my strong points. Everything else I wish I could leave up to someone else. Where is that recording engineer willing to work for free when you really need him? Not to mention all of those sidemen who know how to play like a real band!
Vic Holman
classic blues that goes to the roots from the 30's & 40's. A nice take and righteous singing
