Description

OK, so this is a song built by standard Garageband loops with just a bit of engineering, like changing software instruments, editing a note here and there, playing around with track volume and paning, adding a master filter setup etc - But I just had to do something to get going with Garageband and music making again. It's been some time since..!

This song is short (like the summer) it is rainy and has a blues-like sentimental feeling about it (like this summer?) and it is made of old reused bits and pieces put together in a slightly new configuration. So I thought I'd call it Summer '07...

Please listen, and if you don't like it, it will only have taken you like 70 seconds to endure. I put it in Cinematic Soundtrack - maybe it could work for a wet clip. Otherwise I don't know, not quite blues I guess..?!

Good movie music...
The jazzy meandering piano gives this a kind of energetic but diffused feeling... in other words, it is upbeat, but doesn't have a strong direction on where to go... which is often the feeling people get on warm Summer afternoons, so I guess this is perfect :-) It is a short enjoyable listen. I think you did quite well choosing what things to mix together and create a little interlude from. Creates images of girls running with puppy dogs in the long grass. Well, except at the end when it suddenly rains and they all run indoors. My only critique would be to give a little more build-up with the intro. All the instruments start all at once. I think you should instead start a few instruments, then build up after a couple bars... the song starts off with too much of a bang :-)

I don't know about American TV, but in Sweden during daytime some channels have like "elevator music" going on a while before another program is about to start. This is how I feel this song works. In Garageband it was rather nice to put it on repeat (at least before I put in the final thunder and rain). Although the clip at one stage was only abot a half minute long it could play for a few minutes in that way without getting toooo boring. I almost expected a TV show to start in the end... - And, that I guess is why it all starts with something like a bang, instead of a build up. If I were to make a serious song out of this I definitely agree with you. And I think there would be an interlude in the middle and...

Still, it is more fun when the melody is of your own head, I hope to start another project soon, rather than revise this one!

While it's not really my kind of music :-) I think it did turn out rather nice... I liked the finishing touch I found with the Jazz->Lounge setting for the master track.

Summers in Sweden can be very nice, with the long light night. It has been a bit wet lately, but we are still waiting for the great thunderstorms. They usually come in July.

BTW: Your "Crashed" is so professional, I'm quite awed by production and your singing skills! It'd be a radio hit any day!

I can agree ..

.. with Drak .. that the way this start with a bang ..
rather than building increases the feeling I get of
a cinematic info-mmercial kinda thing .. it's later on
you get the sense of it being incidental music for
a film, when the high piano comes in. Lovely jazzy bass
line. Well mixed .. though the drums sometimes sound
a bit lacking in real drummer dynamics .. on some fills
a bit of track automation can give that sense of the
drummer getting a bit more energetic. It's a great
piece Henke and if written purposely for this application, I'd say you succeeded.

Thanks for your long comment.

It's a bit funny, because one of the things I set out to do in Garageband this time was to work a little extra with drums and percussion. But did it help? No, just standard loops, three differrent I believe, doubled and panned out a bit left and right. Sigh... Maybe next time...!

As to purposely... [blush] I don't really know what happens when I make music. In this case I just browsed through the loop library and suddenly there was something I liked and I started to add things that could match. Not many ideas behind it, I'm afraid.

	Nice work with loops This lively song uses the loops well. BTW in another post here you mentioned how you worked with garage band, just finding something you liked. That is exactly how I work. I am glad you liked this little piece. I enjoyed your Moonbeam song a lot, very calm and meditative. I think I will try to do a similar one now, with loops but hopefully also with some kind of melody of my own hand (through midi-keyboard). I will also try some more of your stuff, am not sure I have done that a lot in the past [embarrased].
