Another great tune, Mark... &mdash 07/10/07 - 07:17:00 PM
And once again, I don't know if everyone who hears it will heard how sophisticated those moving lines and rhythms are...

Trouble with you, my friend, is you make it look easy...

You really do get great tone from that Ibanez Strat...

easy &mdash 07/12/07 - 09:21:52 AM
Well maybe it sounds easy-I didn't find it that easy to play.
I know what you mean though.I'm not so good at writing obviously flashy stuff, but maybe I should try it-something in open Cm9 tuning with 2-handed tapping, slapping, slapped harmonics, and really fast pull-offs.

Um Tom &mdash 07/11/07 - 07:44:28 PM
Even though Ed seems to have set up further comments along the "sophisticate vs. rube" fault line, I will (closet prole that I am) venture in with both feet: this is -obviously- beautifully and thoughtfully composed and played. But what it REALLY needs is a good hip-hop beat so the kids will get it.

Kidding.

It's beautiful. Thanks.

Hip-hop &mdash 07/12/07 - 09:25:02 AM
Actually, I think hip-hop is really big in Brazil,so you may be right.

A zen moment &mdash 07/13/07 - 03:34:15 PM
I seem to hear Jobim humming along, or am I mixing up my styles? I don't know much about the guitar but I know what I like. My only desire would be for a slightly sharper mix as I seem to keep missing out on notes here and there.

Jobim &mdash 07/13/07 - 05:16:22 PM
I do love Jobim's music.Unfortunately it has become associated with "elevator music"(yuck a Major 7th chord!)But it's actually very deep.
You are right about the mix, however, some of the missed notes you are hearing are me missing notes!

Yummie! Fingerstyle electric &mdash 07/16/07 - 09:26:41 PM
That particular combination is a weakness of mine. I once bought an ES 335 copy to play Chet Atkins stuff. No money for a real 335, or a Country Gentleman (that's what Chet used to play, right?)

This is a nifty piece of music. In places you play what's more or less a slightly adorned rhythm part - which is nice, good groove - and then you switch to kind of Joe Pass like single line soloing with an occasional chord in between.

Very tasteful!

Gentle Rain &mdash 07/18/07 - 07:56:30 AM
I like the way you play, mister! I also like Bonfa's music, and this has a similar, introspective feel to "Gentle Rain," more so than, say, "Samba de Orfeo," probably his most popular piece, which is more 'up' in mood.

Another of my guitar heros is Joe Pass, and I hear a bit of him in here too.

This is a lovely composition, beautifully and tastefully played, as always.

Pass &mdash 07/23/07 - 09:05:33 PM
I got to see Joe Pass a few times-he was a pretty incredible player. He had endless streams of melody and licks that just poured out of his brain. He was a bit closed-minded...I once heard him say some nasty things about Hendrix which really turned me off.
Thanks for your comments-I really appreciate it!!
You've probably heard Ed Bickert-check out the video of him playing "embraceable You" on youtube.

calm summer breeze &mdash 07/25/07 - 11:19:17 AM
Really enjoyed this one! Especially the first part - flows so beautifully, and no matter how difficult it may be to play, you make it sound effortless. I also liked how you interpret the Brazilian influence - warm, mellow and you can almost feel the orange sun and late afternoon atmosphere...
