Description:
Dave goes country...

Lyrics:
Down this Old Dirt Road

Down this old dirt road
I'm walking to you
It's getting longer, every step I,,,,
Every step I'm taking.......
Home, can't wait to see you
It's like the old times are coming
I can't stop running

When I get myself through the front door
I'll be with you
When I get myself through the front door
I'll be with you

Down this old dirt road
It's getting better
That's when the rain stops falling
I can't stop calling for you
There is no reason
for all the pleasing that you give me
every time you're with me

When I get myself through the front door
I'll be with you
When I get myself through the front door
I'll be with you

Down this old dirt road
I have been running
since the day I met ya'
everything's been better, on the road
It's never ending
so quit pretending
it's beginning
even if we're winning

When I get myself through the front door
I'll be with you
When I get myself through the front door
I'll be with you

I knew I loved it! Down This Old Dirt Road!

Great singing and great songwritin'. Now, for some reason, I want to see your picture so I can figure out the mystery that is David Armburster! LOL!

This song competes for my most favorite lavalamp song! I love the slide guitar part. You're way too country!

I'm a cowboy, on a plastic horse, I ride. And I'm wanted, dead, not alive.
Thanks

You're a nut job, that's what you are. They put people like you in tiny little rooms with thick padding and an uncomfortable jacket.

Rock on, Cowboy!

What a lushly (that's lush and plushy together) guitar sound. I love the mic jagger-esque vocal dielivery with a splash of Lou Reed and VU backing you up. On a techinical noter, I'd compress the vox a little more, to even out the level consistency a bit. But I love this song.

Thanks for the tip &mdash 07/13/07 - 04:34:53 AM
Thanks for the advice concerning the vox. I find that the hardest thing in recording is mixing your own voice. I welcome any tips to make it easier.
Glad you enjoyed the song and stay tuned for more.
Will check your stuff out.

Incredible &mdash 07/13/07 - 04:38:45 AM
I had a standard run-of-the-mill solo on it at first, and then decided to do a slide guitar. Only problem...no slide. So, I did it with a Bic lighter.......ha ha. Really!
But, I think it sounds o.k.
Thanks
Hear from you soon.

... from the country road. nice one david. the guitars have a perfect presence. the slide is dead on the mark. And strong vocal presence as well. One minor detail is I'm not hearing the bass.

[ Reply to This ]
Where' the bass? &mdash 07/13/07 - 06:09:02 AM
There is bass on this track. Maybe, I thought it was too much and took down too far to give it more of a old-fashion country feel or maybe I'm not that good at producing or it could be a little of both.
Hey man, I'm just a writer at the end of the day, but love to hear tips on production. I always need to improve in that area. The bass goes like this; BOOM BOOM BOOM.
Later,
Dave

thoughts from the bull... &mdash 07/13/07 - 07:19:43 AM
just caught onto your music via your Elliot Smith post!

this is just terrific! the sound you have is nice and clean and the production is really well done!

Lyrically, you've got serious pop appeal while maintaining an almost punk edge with your delivery. it's a pretty sweet pair-up.

musically, there are just so many wonderful layers of sound that it's easy to get lost within them. they swoon and they move nicely. good stuff!

I hope you don't mind the light comparison to John Lennon's solo music, and not just in the song title. He was well versed in the pop structure of a song, but in his solo music he brought an edge he never had prior. you've got something similar - and unique - going on here and i enjoyed it!

thank you!

Hey Boris the Bull &mdash 07/13/07 - 07:40:16 AM
I really, really appreciate the comments coming from you. I just heard Lucky Day and think it's brilliant.
Look foward to hearing more of your stuff. When I have more time, you'll be first on my list.
I know Lennon had a song "Old Dirt Road", but I think I wrote this before I realized it.
I also like the comment about the punkish delivery.
Wanna' know a secret......I can't really sing, but I try.
Thanks again my friend.

Sweet song! &mdash 07/13/07 - 02:22:50 PM
dave - this is fab - great vocals, and the whole mix is spacey and clean. The pace and feel of the track are just ace - this is such a catchy toon, you'd need to be innoculated against it not to like it.

One of the best I've heard from you, and defunately my current fav. The guitar solo works really well, tho' the vox maybe need a bit of eq to amke them sparkle. Gotta say for me, the fade out doesn't work - feels like it needs a more definite ending.

Have to agree about the ending. There's something not right about it. Thanks for listening and glad that you liked the song.

This is a great fun tune and very enjoyable - still hearing the Mick Jagger in you. Very well played and sung and I love the 'steel' guitar break.

Nice tune. Thanks for sharing!
Like the percussion on the end as well has a touch of a Beatles flavor at the end but I forgot which one :)

you got a little Alex Chilton attitude mixed in with some Flying Burrito brothers and Holy Modal Rounders. Not to mention the Stones Exile with a guest spot by George Harrison. How'd you fit all that into my computer?

cool &mdash 07/18/07 - 10:54:12 PM
Great concept and the perfect sound to accompany the idea.
Great performance and recording.

Nice slide.
The slide could use a second slide IMHO, hamonies here and there during the solo, and at the end.

That is all

just an idea i got as i listened.

...to categorize this trans-genre little gem. I do know that it is excellent. I do know that I love it. I do know that I thnk you got a very cool sound outta those guitars David. I do know that I think your Jagger-esque vocals are amazing. I do know that I love the hint of George Harrison in the lead.
Great stuff! More please!

Be well!

Very interesting! &mdash 02/02/08 - 12:38:11 AM
If you were a blonde I would say that your roots are showin' honey, and they are most definitely rock! Anyway, once again your songwriting is well supported by your artistry and production. It just amazes me how a generation after the rock and roll I grew up on, the next gen came in and using the same roots, just gave it a twist in a different direction.
David, keep up the good work!
Stephen
