Description:
Gave my new 88-key m-audio keyboard a test drive and finally got to try out a new instrument library. This is obviously not more than a draft but I haven't posted anything current in a long time and this is a fresh new sound and genre for me. So let me indulge you with a musical sketch until I find time for another session to work on it:)
The photo I took completely exhausted high up on Half Dome, when I looked up and couldn't believe seeing two upside down rainbows (there is another one underneath which you can barely see in the left corner, the panorama was fantastic).

fill er up &mdash 07/12/07 - 01:11:00 PM
Just a skectch, said Van Gogh. The bass starting to warm up was such a tease. Hope you find the time to flesh this one out. Its got a great ambient texture. Something like the picture. Unique and organic. [ Reply to This ]
Nice textures! &mdash 07/12/07 - 01:41:09 PM
I see you've taken the Absynth plunge. Nice little "sketch" hehe. I love the way Absynth spurs exploration, and you've done a nice job with your new pallette. Can't wait to hear more.

Absynth &mdash 07/15/07 - 12:35:22 AM
Thanks Graham! Yes, I wasn't so sure at first, but did find quite a few interesting samples, not so much for solos but nice synth pads and some nifty percussive instruments. I always just "play around" with new instrument libraries and end up staying up all night... [ Reply to This ]
Demo!? &mdash 07/12/07 - 01:41:43 PM
Gee, i dunno P, this sounds pretty good to me as it is. The bells give this a wonderful, light full, whilst the bass and drums ground and drive it. a wonderful piece, but of course, too short. Dont keep us waiting too long for the final version.

nice taste, enviously green &mdash 07/12/07 - 02:02:17 PM
Well, this is indeed a "snippet", since the fade-in seems not to be a proper introduction (I'd let things add/layer more prior to that point), and of course you fade out just as I would expect you to do some interesting solo-melody part... bass-line was great. Actually the bass & bells began hinting a bit toward M. Oldfield, which is definitely not a bad thing in my book! Love the rippling bell-effect and the hypnotic-grooving rhythm. Really smooth delicious mood you create there... definitely want to hear this fleshed out more! Some interplay between the bass and some cool swooping lead synth or synths would be great. Always a pleasure hearing your work. And a beautiful photo, Yosemite is still a stunning place.

Yosemite &mdash 07/15/07 - 12:46:25 AM
Yep, that was quite a trip with bears, coyotes and a stunning panorama I didn't expect. Don't recommend climbing Half Dome off season and without the cables set up, wouldn't do that again...Anyways, thanks for stopping by! I'll be working on a structure for this one, this is just and idea for the texture and I still have to decide which way/genre to go with it - Juno Reactor "wild" or a bit softer and more improvisational. Thanks for your ideas too! [ Reply to This ]
Yeah &mdash 07/12/07 - 02:17:00 PM
That's the way to do it. I thought I had something going here at last, and in my small way maybe I have, it's not ready to post yet (and a week of vacation up north in Sweden and Norway ahead of me :'( ) - but you set a high standard "to beat" here! Really nice and very Parichayaka! I am of course also looking forward to the extended version..! Hope you find time for it soon.
Be well over there!

Soundscape &mdash 07/12/07 - 06:25:42 PM
Well, it sounds wonderful! It seems like it needs or wants to keep going forward; I feel like we're just getting going at the point of the fade out.
You could layer tracks in to start as Drak suggests - that would certainly work, I think - or could just launch forth with a bang, possibly with no fade-in whatsoever.
I think the section that is just beginning as we end might sound good transposed a minor third higher (the section that begins at the same time as the drum groove starts... just a thought, but maybe worth a try.
Fantastic soundscape; you paint pictures with your music, and this is a really rich one. [ Reply to This ]
Thank you Clark! &mdash 07/16/07 - 11:16:38 AM
The minor third up is definitely worth trying. Thanks for the ideas and the encouragement, as always! I'll see what happens if I get a chance to finish this one:) [ Reply to This ]
finish soon! &mdash 07/13/07 - 09:49:01 AM
that's it? I know it's a sketch but you must finish this...soon! Great textures. Love the development and where it was headed. Nice soundscape. Very cool picture too! [ Reply to This ]

music (and panorama)...
You are right with this sound. Short sketch but attractive and full of talent and promise. I'm watching for the next session...

Thanks a lot Marc and for anyone reading this, do yourself a favor and listen to Blaky's "Fishermen" - a truly moving song... [ Reply to This ]
More Please &mdash 07/14/07 - 02:03:32 AM
I've been waiting for the house to be quiet to have a listen to this one and you don't disappoint. I'm always happy when you post, even a draft, and listen to Way Out Somewhere often when I'm falling asleep.
Add my voice to the chorus of people looking forward to hearing the next round on this. --Lisa [ Reply to This ]

Payback time! Is it fair that we all have to wait for months and months to hear new material from you;) I'll post when you do, how's that? Just kidding, haha, or am I?! [ Reply to This ]
I second Lisa on this one &mdash 07/14/07 - 10:30:26 PM
Very solid job of evoking a soundscape and providing terrific melodic detail. I'm hooked. Um, what happened to the end. Not fair! [ Reply to This ]

Nice sketch... &mdash 07/17/07 - 08:44:15 AM
...and quite a little "tease", there! I hadn't read your description and then: it's over!
HEY!!!
Then again...I haven't exactly been "prolific", lately...so what do I have to complain about?
Sounds, awesome, man. Looking forward to more. Like the bass line. [ Reply to This ]
it's always great..... &mdash 07/18/07 - 10:55:23 AM
...to see that you've posted something new. Even if it's 'not more than a draft.'
This is a marvelous start--looking forward to the finished composition :) [ Reply to This ]
Half Done &mdash 07/18/07 - 03:23:39 PM
I loved listening to this; I hope to hear the extended, Juno Reactor 'wild' version... but even if you don't go that way, this song can only evolve into something great. Really awesome photo too. I don't think I would tackle the Half Dome! [ Reply to This ]
Yo! More! &mdash 07/18/07 - 09:24:24 PM
Is all of that Absynth? You get some gorgeous sounds out of it, and you layer your sounds well. By the end, when the drum finally comes in, it sounds bloody amazing. You absolutely have to finish this track.

Yo! Thanks &mdash 07/18/07 - 11:39:15 PM
It's GB mixed with Absynth. All synths/synth pads are from Absynth 4, the drums and bass are from the good old GB JamPacks. [ Reply to This ]
