Description:
This is a snippet of a longer, Ethnic piece, that I am playing around with at the moment.

I'm melding various cultural sounds together and hoping that something comes out at the end.

Here is version #1.

String Mix &mdash 07/13/07 - 02:40:04 PM
Where did you get the string sound? It doesn't sound very African, but times well with the voices. A nice start, will there be some more variety in the final product?

Not very African..... &mdash 07/13/07 - 03:34:26 PM
The strings are various loops off of a free magazine DVD.

The African feel is basically the main singing loops and the 'rickety' way the strings fit with the singing.

Also in the mix are slide guitar (un-African) and a few more melded loops, from around the world.

It's just an experiment in Ethnic mixtricity.

There may not be a second mix, as my work today has thrown out a mix that is decidedly not African, at all and I don't want yet another headache trying to fit even more disparate pieces together in an almost sensible way.

Thanks for stopping by and listening.

Paul.

Sounds like I need to squeeze a couple bucks out of my budget and check out one of these magazines :)

It could be a good investment..... &mdash 07/14/07 - 03:02:49 AM
I buy 3 magazines with free DVD's that contain hundreds of loops, usually each month there is a theme for the samples, and the magazines have up to three loop creaters supply loops, in single note sequences, groups of samples that could be used to make a complete mix or Kits of samples, containing any mixture or all of the following: Drums, Percussion, Bass, Fx, Keyboard, Guitar, Voice.

I buy the magazine and go through all these, every month.

There are also tutorials, reviews, videos, other peoples tunes and demo/free software for both Mac's and PC's and so it can help pass an hour or two or give you ideas when you're without any.

Take care.

Paul.

A Delicious Blend... &mdash 07/15/07 - 06:16:01 PM
Pretty wild Paul, culture mix to serve up a delicious blending of flavors for all to enjoy. The ethnic samples give a festive African type feel, which i liked very much. The stings were nice, but the country steel guitar sounds made the piece for me. All in all a cool blend which was very refreshing to my ears. Bravo my friend.

Hey Patrick &mdash 07/17/07 - 04:18:15 PM
Glad you enjoyed the mix.

The sounds were all just waiting for me to mix them together. I couldn't resist the blending of these different cultures, to share with my friends in the MJ-World-Village.

The reference to Swahili (Jambo) is probably wrong as the singing is a recording of Zulu warriors and I don't think that their language is Swahili but when you mix slide, African voices and Motown sounds I guess things can become a little less focused than it should be.

Take care.

Paul.
