Description:
A plain and simple, laid back acoustic track.
Guitar and main vocal track today in one take; not the first take, mind you, but one take, just the same. Harmonies added in various stages.

Lyrics:
This isolated incident is curious; uncommon practice for wasting time. And though the punishments might seem a little bit tedious to those of us who've tried to rid the world of useless goals one word at a time, it's always been this way. I don't know why you would ever expect it to change.

The waiting for this tomb to open up and tear us all apart has all but consumed the ever changing shape of the dark. And I'm ready to resume my lessons in the art of holding review over missing pages, and deciding which ones we are. It's always been this way. I don't know why I would ever expect it to change.

You cannot know the way to somewhere warm and safe. You cannot turn the page and pretend it was always grey. You cannot know the way to somewhere worth this pain. I've always been this way. I don't know why you would ever expect me to change.

Hardware:
Ovation ck 047, Apex 415 condenser mic, mbox2 mini

Software:
garageband 3

Very nice &mdash 07/13/07 - 09:55:03 AM
An acoustic track with a lot of intensity. Something about it reminds me of mid-70s Pink Floyd.

big compliment &mdash 07/16/07 - 09:59:19 AM
Wow. thanks so much!
I always loved the acoustic or just simpler electric stuff from atom heart mother, animals and obscured by clouds. of course, the other, epic side of atom heart mother's not too shabby either.

Heavy tune dude. Great lyrics and a haunting performance. Good stuff.

words between the lines of age &mdash 07/16/07 - 09:43:18 AM
Thanks man.
I did a batch of songs within a month or so of this one that have some of my favourite lyrics out of all my stuff.
Of course, that was...wow...five years ago. There was rarely a sober moment for couple years there. I can't really condemn or condone such things. Deep thoughts...bad skin though.

I think &mdash 07/13/07 - 05:05:38 PM
that this needs to be listened to quite a few times and I have downloaded. Very, very interesting and deep. Not sure why but reminds me of Simon & Garfunkle but much, much deeper. The lyrics are intriguing as if they are an excerpt from a book. Strange and lovely. Thank you.
Cheers

Time well spent &mdash 07/16/07 - 09:50:40 AM
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
Sometimes I'll find a record a little disappointing, or just not what I was expecting, then after listening several times I suddenly realize it's one of my favourite albums.
I like it when that happens.

Thanks. &mdash 07/16/07 - 09:29:34 AM
Glad you enjoyed it. I was, and am, really unsure about the vocals on this. There's not enough going on for me to hide behind.

Your versatility is &mdash 07/14/07 - 01:38:45 AM
mind-boggling. This is a great track. Great guitar sound, with some nice changes in there, and the lyrics are outstanding. I'm particularly impressed with the way you end a phrase, pause, and come back to it (in the art...of holding review...). Very nicely done. The more I listen to it, the darker it seems. This is a good song. I'm glad you shared it. Peace.

Thank you &mdash 07/16/07 - 09:22:53 AM
I don't know if it's so much a case of versatility as it is a lack of focus and direction. Hahaha
No, I always admired artists like Neil Young or Alice In Chains, who never really pigeon holed themselves into a certain genre, you know? Neil Young's stuff, though always being clearly 'neil', is all over the map.
I have a lot of respect and interest in so many styles, I would never be able to deny a melody because it was too far from my usual stuff.
I actually have material sectioned off into different albums I'd like to release; each with a different flair. If for no reason other than to keep myself on my toes.

Another good one. Great harmonies.
Lack of focus and direction leads to unexpected path, Grasshopper.
