Boy oh Boy &mdash 07/13/07 - 11:02:37 PM
This is heavy and screams!
A bit like something from Edgar Winters "They Only Come Out at Night"
Excellent rockin' piece!

Thanks, Smoke &mdash 07/14/07 - 02:00:18 PM
I.m glad you liked this. The bass run down is one of my favorite parts too 'cause it allows lets me set-up the listener so I can him over the head with the snare drum. ;)

tune - love everything about this song - great groove -great sounds - love those 'scale descensions' throughout the song - wouldn't change a thing about it - two thumbs up - is that Columbus Ohio in the pic?

Blessings,

'Preciate it &mdash 07/14/07 - 02:07:06 PM
No it's the big apple. They jaywalk in NYC almost as much as they do in Columbus!

Glad you liked the guitar work. It's all done with smoke and mirrors. ;)

Rocker &mdash 07/14/07 - 02:50:17 PM
The guitar sounds great. The bass line runs on and on, too repetitive.
The drums were cool except too much snare in a few places. Some tom-tom work would of been nice. Sorry I'm a drummer. All in all I liked it.

I appreciate the comments and the critique. Sometimes working with loops you sort of have to take what you can get or what you can slice and dice ... so it was with the drums. On this piece I really wanted that repetitive bass line so I did not rewrite the line as I often too in many songs ... a pulse is constant and the bass line represents the pulse in the song.

Thanks for taking such a close listen to the piece. Any opinion is always appreciated.

i LIKE your descriptions!

altho, true to your word, no stinkin description is necessary to understand what's goin on here - GAWD am i glad i live in the boonies! all your works are so varied - do you have a mood in mind when you choose your loops, or do the loops choose you? that last insanely furious and frenetic flurry was the icing on a very delicious cake. you, sir, are an excellent chef of all things sonic. enjoyed this one - anne

Choosing loops &mdash 07/18/07 - 09:07:35 AM
Sometimes I set out to try to create a certain mood or feel but more often I start with trying to find a good "groove" with the rhythm tracks. When something I come up with matches my mood of the moment, I run with it. The basic tracks suggest to me where I want to take the rest of the song and what the mood of the song should be. I then work toward that goal.

Vital Signs... &mdash 07/19/07 - 06:53:31 PM
For what it is, this is very well done. Yes, it lacks the unpredictability and improvisations of live players, but what you've used and fused in this piece is a vital Rock 'n Roller Coaster of pace and drive.

Hang On, Sloopy... the Heart of Rock & Roll is still beating. ;)

Joe

I appreciate the comments. It is easier to come up with dance or trance music when working with loops because a lot of it is "machine made" and a lot of pop music of today has less "life" than this song has (IMHO), but it is tough to cross the river of realism when looping. I may have made it about half way there. I thank you for taking the time to listen and comment.
