Keywords:
Nocturne (5)
Description:
Sweet melody for piano and guitar. Let me know what you think of the guitar, I like the idea but it may need some work. I dont play guitar and if anybody wants to contribute and play the guitar part with your own arrangements, please let me know. Other than that, I think you'll enjoy the melody in the American style of Copeland (I wish!).
I have been working like crazy and haven't had much time to visit MacJams, but its always a pleasure to listen and share our music. Thank You'all

A beautiful piece of music..... &mdash 07/14/07 - 05:16:44 AM
This piece is beautiful as it is.

There is, to me, a definite 'American' feel to it but not so much Copeland as opposed to American-style ballads. Home on the Range and other 'prairie-type' songs come to mind, fleetingly, as I listen.

First class.

Take care.

Paul.

Hello! &mdash 07/15/07 - 01:01:53 AM
I have not heard from you in a while and like always is good to hear from fellow macjammers. I only wish I could play the guitar. T tried some as a child but did not have the discipline to stick with it and learned only 4 or 5 chords. Oh well! But I am glad you liked it.

Another winner &mdash 07/14/07 - 08:22:22 AM
I don't know much about styles, and I know nothing about piano. But I know what I like, and this composition is another winner, IMHO. It is beautiful and lively. :-)

God bless,

Rick

Hello Rick... &mdash 07/15/07 - 01:09:30 AM
I want to think of music as thoughts straight from the soul converted into melodic sounds. In turn, music, probably just flows through us from above....

Lovely &mdash 07/14/07 - 04:49:10 PM
I'm not a big Copeland fan, except when he was drumming for The Police, but anyway I like this piece very much. So in my mind, Gil is better than Copeland. The piano guitar combo is perfect. Very sweet song. Enjoyed immensly. Thanks.

My bad! is Copland not Copeland... &mdash 07/15/07 - 01:12:51 AM
I meant Aaron Copland, not Stewart Copeland; but at any rate, I guess most people did not see any connection; but it doesn't matter. What matter is that you guys (and girls) liked it. Thank you.

Another winner &mdash 07/14/07 - 06:49:27 PM
This is definitely another winner by you. It shows you in a different stylistic light, one that I really like. It definitely sounds American, from an earlier period (maybe 100 years ago) - maybe Edward MacDowell? Not sure if that's who I'm thinking of - but you've captured it. Not that it matters, but I didn't really hear a Copeland connection. I'm am curious as to why you called it a Nocturne?

I like the way you handle the guitar here; it really interacts well with the piano. Great job!

Hi &mdash 07/15/07 - 12:55:22 AM
In my mind, the beginning evokes Copeland but I guess that can be subjective.
Nocturne Definition: "An instrumental composition of a pensive, dreamy mood, especially one for the piano". Not only that, but I don't have to think much for a title!
Anyways, as somebody whom I admire for his music, I appreciate your thoughts.

Copeland &mdash 07/14/07 - 07:27:15 PM
Aaron Copeland's adaptations of American folk melodies definitely comes to mind. I'm not sure this is how a guitar player would play the melody, but it sounds good to me. There are some excellent acoustic players on the site, hopefully one will chime in. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you.... &mdash 07/15/07 - 01:25:19 AM
I guessed I mentioned Copland because besides the great Masters, American music is special to me, not just because of its beautiful melody, but also because this is my adopted Country. From Rodgers & Hammerstein, to Joplin and Copland, is such a wonderful sound!

Beautiful, Enrique... &mdash 07/19/07 - 10:13:19 PM
...I thought it sounded a bit more like a harp, on first listen. Which I like. I love the harp.

Wonderful combination of sounds, man. Enjoyed, very much...

Another lovely piece... &mdash 07/21/07 - 08:47:03 PM
...by you Enrique and it's great to see you at least for a while turn you attentions west of the Danube.

It certainly does has a sweet American feel and although it's nothing like Dvoraks New World Symphony - like it - it also has a hint of the old world charm in it. I agree with Clark that it feel a little more like MacDowell than Copeland but there's nothing wrong with that.

As for the guitar along with the piano I'm not totally sure that combination completely works for me. The guitar sounds too close to my ears to the piano and sometimes gets lost. I was wishing that it would take center stage more often instead of taking a back seat.
Still I really enjoyed the melody and your wonderful playing.
Best,
Charlie

You are... &mdash 07/24/07 - 09:46:29 AM
...branching out. This 5th number in your collection is a perfect little gem. It is so positive and your variations are, as usual, always compelling and most enjoyable. I think you could just string this out for about another 7 or 8 minutes and I'd be a very happy listener. ... I like the guitar very much, too. It is a bit "out of sync" now and then, and you might wish to revisit that track in a couple spots, but the overall effect and the wonderful counterpoint is so pleasant. I wouldn't worry about a collab if I were you. Ed Hannifin (another MJer) is a great guitarist and he once told me that the digital age has opened up many "other" possibilities for guitar-like work. YOUR conception here is true. (Are you using an Ivory plugin? It sounds much like your old clavinova, but I do like the "tinkly" effect.) Keep writing. Your music is unique and it is delightful!
Peace.
Paul
