I really hope people listen to this... I'd like to hear this with a real good jazz drummer and an upright bass... although i am enjoying the techno direction... you'll often find comments on MJ... "you sound like so and so, this one or that one"... I'd love to see who people compair you to ... i think you've got your own thing going on here

cool... welcome to MJ

Diversity
You'v been productive lately, and reaching out into all sorts of directions.

This tune is a surprise. You start out in a sort of Cecil Taylor way, but then various electronic sounds come in. I have a weakness for the combination of electronic backgrounds and obvious live performances on top. The combination of avant-bop (?) piano and dance electronics is new to me. I like it.

About the arrangement: I don't care much for the piano sound. It's too bright, and doesn't seem to ahve a lot of sustain. But I guess you have to live with what samples you have. The electronics: there's kind of a conga going on, and I hear something vague in the lower frequencies. I think you can make that more elaborate, and more prominent: now it's a bit like the drums are playing along with the piano, rather than being integrated.

But a very cool idea, and you're a great pianist.

hey vic.I dont know why I had trouble finding the right sound in piano on this track. I wanted to and was trying to use and intigrate a grand, which is what I usually use in post. But the sound kept coming out as an upright 1950's box. so i said the hell with it, I'll clean it in full production and threw this together to show all the birth of the final mix, Sunny (finally mastered).

Other instruments were timpani, crash cymbals(used in about ALL our tracks) and rev cymbals. And Ahh yes in the future i plan to retouch this and make different genres of this.

Yes I do have all the samples i need for this track but not all I need for others. We want some Groove and/or House/Drum&Bass samples if anyone wants to trade us out. We cant find too much around this area.

The congas were put in to keep your attention by keeping your foot tapping. Nothing on the conga rhythm was equalized or inhanced or sharpened. And this was not our intention to be a full production. Not this track.

As far as the piano playing goes...Lafayette Rutledge played the board with nothing behind him, in real time , no tempo, and unquantized. later, I quantized the entire track , then step matched every single midi note to tempo. End result... Sunny (finally mastered).

I dont play piano on all our tracks, and not as well as you think. thanx for the compliment, but I think I have an ear for what sounds right and I can make music. I cant read music. I can read rhythm a bit. I think everyone else in Head Productions is the better instrument player.

Keep listening. I respect you.

Mhm...
This composition was a hit/miss for me. Some of the piano I was really loving, and other times I really hated it. I did however enjoyed how it got into a more electronic feel. Overall, this could end up as a great piece if you worked on the piano more, and built more on the techno.

PS- I'm assuming you made this in Reason, because I hear premade sounds from the program. However I was wondering if I could have the ".rns" (or whatever it's called) file and if I could make a remix for it. My email is kgz2747@gmail.com and AIM is KgZ2747.
